I am not still at work. My work would probably still run at the same period of the solar day; we'd just use different numbers to refer to those times.

I don't like time zones because they make it a pain to figure out when stuff is going on in other parts of the world. And because they're inconsistant and lazy and jagged and crazy. Anyone who actually needed to use solar time should be using real solar time anyway not their time zone's time. GPS units are small now; they could give an exact local time for whoever the fuck needs that. Which is probably near nobody.

Daylight Saving Time bugs me because it doesn't actually change anything other than our naming conventions.

I don't think I've ever gone out on St Patrick's Day. We had a party last year, and that was about the craziest thing I've done for St Patrick's Day.

Also of note to the Default thread, I have Spring Break week off (the week leading up to 3-17), and I don't really have any plans to do anything or go anywhere. I guess I won't be paying for daycare because I'll be home (my daughter is off school that week), but that's about it.

btw, Ron, I didn't mean that as a swipe at you. Just being a little cynical. I didn't really pay close attention to the news and politics until I had kids. I've always voted, but I have yet to be jailed for standing up for what I believe in.

i have a smiliar story:

the other day i was in the grocery store, perusing the magazines like i usually do. and i'm just getting into the good part of the new seventeen magazine and this fucking guy bumps into me on accident. i'm standing there like "this fucking guy didn't just bump into me" and then the guy says "hey, sorry for bumping you into you dude." and i'm like "yeah, you're GONNA fucking be sorry, fucking guy. i was just getting to the makeup tips part and you fucking interrupted me." then i assumed my ass kicking crane stance and shouted out "prepare to be attacked, you fucking guy!!" and right as i'm swinging to hit him, the fucking guy cheapshots me out of nowhere and then he does some crazy ass monkey judo move that consisted of him shoving me in the chest and i fall into the magazine rack and tumble to the floor. so i'm sitting on the floor, thinking to myself "man, this guy's probably been trained by a ninja or something!!" but then i think "naw, dax. you're a fucking souljah! get up and wreck this guy's day!!"

so i jump up and i shout "NOW I WILL PUNCH YOU!!" and without warning me, he moves out of the way and i trip on my feet and fall face forward into one of the cakes they had on display. then the guy was all like "look kid, are you done yet?" and i'm like "oh, i'm done alright." (but i wasn't done at all!!! i'm such a trickster!!)

then he started walking away and i grabbed a can of soup and threw it at the back of his head and yelled out "don't fuck with d-tizzle, biyatch!!" and ran away.

i totally fucking pwned that guy

I forgot that on Saturday when I was driving the UHaul I heard "Lazy Eye" on the radio. It was after I eventually found out what frequence the Edge currently is. I could only remember classic rock stations my dad listened to 20 years ago. That still have the same playlists.

I just wanted to say how very much I enjoy being awake at 5:40 in the AM, while my wife, baby and cat are all sleeping. And its all thanks to fucking midterms. Why do professors feel the need to actually adhere to a strict "midterms the week before spring break" routine. I've had a Finance core exam, Chaos theory project proposal (even more fun than it sounds), International Business exam (at least it was take home, though that amounted to 11 pages of essays written), and a marketing management exam and case study. And to make matters worse, the damn case study was about Abercrombie and Bleh... Needless to say, I feel like I'm on crack, and actually wish that I was. That is all. I hope I don't die in my sleep (though a minor coma wouldn;t be too bad).

I'm having a moral dilemma at my work. Every year in the past several years, my department has taken part in a Gallup survey to show how "engaged" the employees are with their work. The survey involves 10 questions that you can rate from strongly disagree, disagree, neutral, agree, and strongly agree. Now last year our department rated the questions really low, meaning that the employees thought that management had some work to do to help us feel more engaged.

In a meeting a couple months ago, my direct supervisor told our group that the higher up management looked at our results from last year and were not happy. My supervisor intimated that with such low results, the higher up management could move our work elsewhere, meaning our department would be axed, and we could all lose our jobs.

So today the management is beginning their new campaign to get everyone to participate in the survey. They have assured us on emails that particpation is "voluntary" and "anonymous." They have also told us they will give everyone a prize after he/she takes the survey. The group within the department that has 100% participation will receive a free lunch.
My problem is why would I want to participate in that when I cannot be honest? They make it sound like if I don't give high ratings, we might lose our jobs. Also, my manager just recently came over to my desk and said "you haven't taken the survey yet..." WTF? I thought it was supposed to be ANONYMOUS.

no. amy, take the test and mark every answer excellent. that way you participated and you let them know what you really think of them at the same time. it's a flawed test and you know it and they know you know it, so by giving them exactly what they want to hear proves your point about the stupid test in the first place and lets you stand your moral ground. any middle management type that can see the genius in you answering the test in that way will respect you. these select few will be in the minority but will also be the ones most likely to get promoted themselves and remember you when they are trying to build a staff of their own. the ones that don't see the beauty in giving straight a's all around will either think you're a real team player or else think you're absolutely crazy to be so loyal when they themselves are not. either way they will fear you. it's a win win situation all around. treat most aspects of your job as if you were bill murray in caddyshack and you will never go wrong. i promise.

That's right by USC. It's sorta sketch. It's also not really all that cheap for a room in that neighborhood, although it's a good deal if it's the entire apartment.

I'd recommend the Santa Monica / WLA choice, if your friend can afford it. But then again, it also depends where your friend is interning. Dealing with commuter traffic sucks.

I have decided that slanty tent is good enough. I mean it'll only go slanty if there's a storm. I think. We patched the poles up with duct tape.

This is a better solution, I think, than dropping $100-150 for a replacement right away.
