I was a member of the SDS and really did think I could be part of the solution. Work in the establishment, change from the inside. Well hundreds of trips, a few disappointments, got married, life moved on. It was just like a job though. In four years, I worked one Saturday and never a Sunday. 8-5, at a desk. Go home, major party (it was the 60's), and back to work the next morn. Really normal when you get down to it. I didn't regret it although I think I would have graduated college and not just flew thru life. cr****

However the people told my grandma and aunt that in which turn they told my dad who told me. My Grandma ended up just keeping the ashes and a few years later she died. I have no idea what ever happened to the ashes. Cool story bro I know but point is she isn't the only one that has heard that.

So I guess it depends according to the 3 minutes I spent online.....cr****

Many myths surround the practice of scattering cremated ashes. It doesn't help that the laws are often complicated, confusing or nonexistent. Knowing what the laws are or who to ask about them can save you from a lot of frustration and worry. One of the most common myths is that scattering cremated ashes is a hazard to the public's health. The truth is, once a human body has been cremated, it is no longer considered a health risk, so cremated ashes are usually not something federal or state officials are concerned with, according to the Funeral Consumers Alliance website.

RotationSlimWang
02-04-2013, 12:54 PM
It's illegal to spread your ashes on private property the same way it's illegal to litter, except people have actually been prosecuted for littering.

canexplain
02-04-2013, 12:59 PM
I'm about two keys .............:) cr****

How much of the body remains after cremation depends on the size of a person's former body weight.

The solids left after cremation are about 3 percent of the former body weight, so a corpse weighing 150 pounds (68 kilograms) produces about five pounds (two kilograms), or about 200 cubic inches, of remains.

Yes, it does. Most people are not landowners. And regardless, if you're talking about your property you don't refer to it as just "private property," you'd refer to it as "my private property, also known as go fuck yourself" or something to that effect because I can't imagine the scenario where you own some land and are actually asking other people whether or not you can get ashes on your own land.

I think, if I had a relative that died in some fashion that seemed ripe for it to be a haunting--not a commentary on your situation which I know nothing about, rather launching a brand new hypothetical--that I would use the threat of burying their ashes on my enemy's land as a weapon. I am in the process of buying a new or used car. In the past I have always bought brand new, but people always told me that's a bad idea because the car depreciates so much as soon as you drive it off the lot. So this time around I was going to buy something gently used. Now people are telling me because of the economy and the deals that are being offered it's better to buy brand new. I am so confused. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

marooko
02-22-2013, 06:16 AM
I never saw a car as an investment, so the depreciation never mattered. Now dependability, parts availability, maintenance costs and gas mileage, that matters to me.

There are lots of great deals for financing at the moment where you can buy a car with payments at no interest or almost no interest. For the sake of having a warranty I would probably lean towards getting a reasonably priced new car.

I would go to a few places and see who can offer you the best financing based on your credit rating and then make a selection of who to deal with from there. Go to the dealers with the cars that most interest you and see who is most accommodating. They are there to win you over and earn your business. No reason to feel intimidated.

That fucking gangma? or whatever it's called youtube vid has had over a billion views. If he was getting .01 on a page view, he would get 10 fucking MILLION dollars for that vid. Boy if we all could just figure out how to do something like that. Oh well it's a good day. Anyway, buy a used car imo, maybe at least thru a legit big dealer. As far as financing, you can get super low contracts from your credit union. I would go to my bank, but that's just me ..... cr****

Loca, you could try getting pre-approved at a credit union/bank. Our local credit union has taken great care of us, and getting pre-approved helps eliminate much of the bullshit at a dealership and generally gets you a much better interest rate.

Also, don't forget the power of the internet, it does much more than this message board. You can do your research online, get pre-approved, then just go drive/buy.

The last time I bought a car on my own I took my trade in with me. It was a piece of shit Hyundai but it ran. When the salesman was working the deal he said he would give me 2 for my trade. I assumed 2 grand. Then I had to sit there with my children in tow, waiting forever for them to work out all the numbers. Going back and forth with the boss, playing the game they play. Finally they come out with all the paperwork and I was signing my name in all 800 spots, then I notice they only gave me $200 for my trade. Yes, it is my fault for not being specific but I don't think they would have pulled that shit if I were a dude. By that point I was so tired of being there I didn't say anything and drove away in my new car. But I should have gotten up and walked out. It is a lesson learned, but it would just be a lot nicer to have a guy, or even a stronger willed female with me when I do this. I am kind of a pushover, if you haven't figured that out.

learn from my mom. just start walking to your car when you feel like you're being taken advantage of. they always run back to her with better deals. remember you are doing them a favour by buying a car from them, not the other way around. feeling comfortable with your salesman is important since this is such a huge purchase. and make a list of questions so you don't forget to ask stuff.

Use TrueCar or Edmunds to spec out your car so you know the dealer invoice and MSRP before you go. Removes all the haggling for price. It should not be a problem getting them to agree somewhere between invoice and MSRP.

One note on TrueCar: do NOT give them your name and phone number. They will broadcast that to a dozen or more dealers and your phone will be blowing up for months afterward.

We are looking for a new car, as well. We usually lease, though, since we have the 2 small kids and our needs are ever evolving in terms of space needed to shuttle them around. Drove by a dealership yesterday and they have the Infiniti G37 for $269/month, not sure on how much down, though. If it is not bad I may just have to bite. Had the G35 a few years ago and loved it. Honda and Toyota have a couple cars $0 down and $199/month, but they are base models. For $70 more a month I will chose luxury and speed any day.

We got a Ford Edge a year or so ago. Wife and I said we were going to lunch to talk about it and that we would be back. We had every intention of coming back and paying the terms that were presented. One thing a good salesman will do is never let you leave the lot. We stayed, they knocked $1500 off the down payment and we had a decent monthly payment. Best advice? Be prepared to walk at any time. Tell them you need to think about it. They will start making concessions pretty quickly. Have heard it is best to buy at the end of the month, too, when they are trying to meet their sales numbers for that period.

My dad has the 04 G35, he says he is never going to get another car model again in his life he loves it so much.

Also Loca my mom just bought a new car not to long ago and multiple car salesmen from different dealers told her that the best day to buy is on a Sunday. It's typically the slowest day so they will usually offer the best deals that day. Something to also take into consideration.

Loca, that is awesome!!! It is a very pretty car!! Is it new? What did you end up doing for financing?

Yeah, it's a 2013 Honda Civic. I did the financing through Honda, my credit wasn't quite good enough for my credit union unfortunately. I have some hospital bills from when I was laid off a few years ago and late pays on my last car that gave my credit score a hit. I was excited to find out that my credit isn't horrible, just not steller. I even got some advice on how to improve it a bit by writing letters and trying to short pay some of the smaller doctor/hospital charges. I got an ok rate but I was told if I make a years payments on it my score will increase enough to refinance through the credit union at a much lower rate.

I went to two dealerships, the Nissan guy was annoying the hell out of me and wasn't going to let me leave without me buying a car from him. I was starting to get very anxious. So I finally just got up and walked out, went to the Honda dealership where I bought my last car and immediately remembered why I bought there the last time. They are just so much nicer and far less pushy, which wins me over every time. :)

Homophobic Family Values Group Accuses GEICO Pig Commercials of Promoting Bestiality
Taylor Berman

The "advocacy group" One Million Moms is at it again. The group/collection of homophobic trolls, best known for protesting JCPenny not once but twice, has recently carved out a bizarre niche market for themselves by accusing popular commercials of promoting bestiality. Last year, it was Skittles; this year, it's GEICO, for the insurance company's creepy commercials in which a pig spends time with a young woman in a convertible. As ABC News describes the commercial:

The car has just broken down, and Maxwell uses his mobile GEICO application to locate a tow truck. The woman seems frustrated that the tow truck will arrive so quickly, as she asks, "Oh, so that means we won't be stuck up here for hours, with nothing to do?" The pig brushes off her advances.

Sexy, right? And definitely dangerous for children. So dangerous, in fact, that it might make make kids attracted to pigs, or something like that, according to Monica Cole, the director of One Million Moms.

"It was just a pretty sleazy type of commercial because the girl [in the commercial] was really disappointed when she realized they wouldn't be able to pass the time alone together," said Cole.

The One Million Moms' website states that the organization's goal is to stop the entertainment media's exploitation of children.

"Kids are drawn to animals. That's normal. Animals are cute. That's why movies have animals that play the lead roles and the main parts," said Cole. "And it may be over their heads in terms of understanding the meaning behind it, but there's a big concern when kids are being desensitized to this kind of thing."

And this isn't the first time GEICO has tried to force its pro-animal fucking way on the kids. "A bridesmaid was flirting with the gecko in a different commercial, so this is just becoming a norm for GEICO it seems," Cole said.

Right. GEICO, to their credit, hasn't responded to the group's insane complaint, though Cole noted they receive responses from companies about half of the time. Of course, considering how thoroughly they were shamed by JCPenny's excellent response last May, OMM might want to reconsider their strategy.

One Million Moms are bored house wives who need a good dick in their mouth, or at least a hobby, to shut them the fuck up.

Nothing makes me happier when companies basically troll them by ignoring their complaints of using gay people in their promo ads and such (ie JC Penny, Pizza Hut, etc).

Is revenue gross in this? It is, right?
In cases, where they don't specify, I always assume Gross. And in this case, there is nothing in the [URL="http://www.nightclub.com/awards/top-100/news/nightclub-bar-announces-2013-top-100-6563"]methodlogy (http://www.nightclub.com/awards/top-100/news/nightclub-bar-announces-2013-top-100-6563)about expenses, so yea, Gross.

Top 100 Methodology
The 2013 Top 100 list was developed by Nightclub & Bar in partnership with Technomic Inc., a Chicago-based hospitality market research firm, using primary and secondary research. An online survey of operators was conducted from Oct. 9 to Dec. 7, 2012, and yielded primary data from 1,444 nightclub, bar and lounge locations, from which key information and insights were generated. Secondary research involving public databases and sources, scans of major metropolitan markets and industry resources provided additional data points. Total revenues are presented in ranges for calendar year 2012; specific ranking is determined by estimated midpoint of annual revenue. Gentlemen’s clubs are not included in the roster. Concepts included can operate in no more than five locations and must be operating all 12 months of the 2012 calendar year; an exception was made for venues affected by Hurricane Sandy. An asterix (*) on the lists indicates a Technomic, Inc. estimate based on industry research.

I find it amazing that so many of the top 100 are only in the $5MM - $10MM range BEFORE expenses. Maybe that's because wages are so low as so many of the employees are reliant upon tips that $5MM is enough to cover rent and food / drink costs.

Manhattan mother jumps eight stories to her death with her infant son strapped to her chest; baby survives with minor injuries
Sources say Harlem lawyer Cynthia Wachenheim penned a 13-page, handwritten suicide note before jumping out of an eighth-story window, taking her son, Keston, with her. The baby was saved from the impact when the woman landed on her back on the pavement.

UPDATED: THURSDAY, MARCH 14, 2013, 1:59 PM

A Manhattan lawyer strapped her 10-month-old son to her chest and leaped to her death from an eighth-story window in Harlem on Wednesday — and the baby miraculously survived with little more than scratches, police sources said.

Cynthia Wachenheim, 44, who left a suicide note castigating herself for being a bad mother, landed on her back after taking the fatal plunge. Baby Keston was in a harness. He bounced off his mom on impact and then rolled away from her motionless arms.

“I heard a small scream when she was in the air,” said witness Steven Dominguez, 18. “I noticed something falling, but I didn’t want to believe it was a person.”
Dominguez, who teared up as he spoke, said the landing made a horrifying sound.

“It was a loud bang,” he said outside the woman’s building on Bradhurst Ave. near W. 147th St. “It sounded like a big piece of wood hitting the floor.”
“When I got closer, I saw the baby crying,” he said.

The baby was in stable condition Wednesday night at Harlem Hospital, hours after his mother’s 3:30 p.m. jump.

Sources said Wachenheim left a rambling 13-page, handwritten suicide note on small pages of notebook paper.

“The note said she was not happy and she talked about what she planned to do,” a source said. In the note, Wachenheim is “saying to her husband, ‘I love you. I’m making you suffer. You’re going to think I’m evil,’” a source said.

“She thinks she’s a failing mother. On the last page, she refers to postpartum depression. She was supposed to see a therapist, but she blew him off.

“As the note goes on, you get the idea she’s explaining why she’s going to do it,” the source added.

The note, which mentions little Keston having a physical handicap, was unsigned — but cops compared it to handwriting samples and determined that it was written by Wachenheim, the source said.

Police learned — not from the note — that Wachenheim was convinced her baby had cerebral palsy, although doctors said there was nothing wrong with him, said the source.

Wachenheim’s husband, Hal Bacharach, 48, was at work when his wife jumped, the source said. He was spotted on surveillance video leaving the upscale building at 12:55 p.m., less than three hours before the leap.
Neighbors said he stormed out of their two-bedroom condo after a loud argument. Shouting echoed through the halls.

“He was yelling at her today,” said Christian Johnson, 37. “It made me stop and listen. He was asking her why she wouldn’t pick up the phone. He kept repeating it. Then, the baby started crying.”

A police source said Wachenheim was taking antidepressants and that pills were found in the apartment.

A different police source said Wednesday was the first time police were ever called to the apartment. The couple had lived at The Sutton — where similar apartments run about $325,000 — for about three years.

Wachenheim, a high school valedictorian in Albany and a Columbia Law grad, was on maternity leave from her $118,000-a-year job in the city court system. She worked there for more than 15 years doing research and writing for judges.

“She was wonderful — very devoted to the court (and) wonderful with everyone she worked with,” said her boss, John Werner, chief court clerk. “It’s a tragedy.”

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident,” said David Bookstaver, spokesman for the city’s Office of Court Administration. “Our thoughts are with her family.”

Two NYPD narcotics detectives were parking a car nearby and were the first to respond after they saw the tragic fall.

Cops took the boy, who appeared to only have scratches and minor injuries, to Harlem Hospital. He was listed in stable condition and was expected to survive. A source said he underwent a CT scan.

Neighbors were shocked that Wachenheim, who officials said worked as an associate court attorney with the New York County Law Office, took her only child with her in the fatal leap.
“She was very friendly,” said Yaa Dwamena, 32. “She always greeted you when you came in and out of the building. She didn’t seem like she was going through anything.”

A building worker described Wachenheim as a devoted mom.

“She was always holding him in her arms,” the worker said. “She was always with the baby. She loved that baby.”

Johnson, who has known the couple since they moved into the building, said he never saw signs of trouble.

“I saw her a little while ago,” he said. “She seemed stressed out — but what mother of a 10-month-old isn’t stressed out?”

Johnson also thought that Wednesday’s argument was just a typical squabble between parents, until he saw Wachenheim’s body on the sidewalk.

“I saw her on the ground and I lost it,” Johnson said.
