Two of my friends are standing outside the restroom talking. I go in the restroom into a stall for a minute. In walks one of my friends and sits in the stall next to me (I recognized the shoes). As I leave I said “I would shout sucks as loud as I can but a bathroom is not the place to yell that. This place fucking sucks.” I walk out and my two friends are still outside talking. I guess I didn’t recognize the shoes that well.

dude bought a camping ticket, made a deal with random chick to share it, she paid him $250. gave her ticket since she was arriving first. ends up her cell phone died, she didn't have charger, and he couldn't contact her to meet up all weekend.

here's the description from the judge judy website:
"A man searches for three days for his camping site at the popular Coachella music festival; after failing to find it, he sues the teenager with whom he was supposed to share the site."

anyone know a christopher canaan(sp?) or maia combs? they were the 2 douchenozzles embarrassing themselves on this drivel.

and i have now spent too much time with this topic.

I saw this too. It was hilarious because Judge Judy had absolutely no hope of understanding the situation. Christ, it took all of us a month to fully understand the car camping situation....Wait, so people can walk in for free? But if you have a car, you have to have a ticket? But you can share your spot with as many people as you can possibly fit?....

I felt bad for the girl being sued because Judy didn't believe anything she said about the whole camping situation and it was all 100% true! It just didn't seem to make any sense to an outside party, so she got screwed kinda. Pretty funny, though.

bought a Mac last weekend to replace my old windows PC "media center" computer where I kept all my music & movies. I'm convinced this will be best in the long term but conversion is slow and a pain in the ass. It's not just a matter of knowing which buttons to click to get stuff done, that's annoying but expected. Transferring media from windows to mac is not as straightforward as I had hoped. Ever tried moving your entire itunes library to a new computer and keeping your playlists and play counts intact? ugh.

also I am using Handbrake to rip DVDs. It works but is slow. Is there a better download for the same task?

Mac the Ripper has always been great for me. The Mac that I'm currently on will be my last Mac not because I don't like it but I need top of the line hardware. I can build my own that's faster than Mac's fastest for $2500 less. Also I will likely never need to use Mac OS X again.

I'm still a certified Apple tech though and will likely continue to renew my certification until I die so if you do have any questions about what does what, etc. feel free to PM me.

how long have you been dating? it's only been a few months, so i'm just skeptical about making plans with someone i haven't been with very long.

We also haven't been together long, it's been since the beginning of August. But we get along swimmingly and the group I go with are all mutual friends with her so it shouldn't be a big deal to split up during the day. I've made it very clear that when i'm at festivals I have to be able to do my own thing because I make rash last-second decisions and run around like a maniac the whole time.

Also, my group already has rooms booked so there's not a ton of committing/planning that has to go into it.

Around about 4.30 am, started hearing a weird noise from next door. Concrete buildings, no sound usually gets through. It's loudest from the front room upstairs, but we can't hear it outside at all.

It sounds like a giant blender. Winds up to a high pitch, then stops. It's not too loud, although it's loud enough to be really annoying, and it woke up my housemate, but it sounds like it would be deafening wherever it's coming from.

I don't know my neighbours, I don't know if they're even home, but there aren't any lights on. Any ideas?

Please note, I am familiar with the sounds of sexytime, in all it's creative and occasionally mechanised glory. It's nothing nearly as fun, so think more creatively.

Every single time I've tried to explain the noise to anybody, I've described it as one of the Will It Blend guy's blenders doing in an iPad. It's exactly that noise.

It's changed tonight, too - it's steadier. It used to wind up and then stop, and then start again a bit later. Now it's just less loud, but constant.

There is a new system now in place here where the cops have a camera in the front grill and a handheld device and they just scan a plate and it tells them everything about the owner. They are even going thru the colleges, scanning plates and matching if the students are up to date on all the money they owe that school. If they have outstanding bills then they notify the college and of course if there is anything else outstanding, well you get it.

So here's what happened in Ireland today.

The government finally admitted how much trouble the country is in financially and applied to the IMF for a bailout, effectively selling the nation's economic sovereignty. They announced two press conferences, of national importance. Everybody in the country watched it. The first was at 1pm. The main national broadcaster, which has a public service remit and receives taxpayer money for it, didn't bother broadcasting it. The prime minister said fuck all we didn't know already - certainly nothing that the UK news hadn't already told us.

The second was scheduled for 7pm, and only actually started it after 8pm. The PM came on and began the same bullshit fountain we've already heard for the last few weeks. He has yet to apologise for the fact that his government has turned our economy from one of the strongest in Europe to a complete basketcase. It turns out, we're in the hole to the tune of about 80 billion euro, and yes, that figure is billion.

All the journalists bar two sat there like fucking saps nodding along happily as if all of this made sense, and of course it wasn't really the government's fault that they've poured two decades of unprecedented growth into a money hole. Indeed, several billion could have been saved if the government had taken these steps a few months earlier - the majority of it could have been avoided altogether if the government hadn't so wholly mismanaged the economy in a way that made us uniquely vulnerable to the credit crunch.

The first dude was an English reporter, who was the only journo in the country to have the balls to ask what nearly 4 million Irish people were screaming at their television: when he was going to finally fucking resign. The PM said that he wasn't. In fact he intends to run for the next election. For fuck's sake.

The other was a dude called Vincent Browne, who's a bit of a hollering crank normally, but was a total fucking legend tonight. He stood up and basically told the prime minister that he's "a liability, not just for your party, not just for your government, but for the country"" and that he should just be a patriot and go. The national broadcaster had already switched back to a repeat of an old gameshow by then - we only saw this on the British coverage of the live press conference from our nation's leader. And that shameless, witless fuck just shook his head and said "no". Just "no". No "I'm sorry I sailed us all into an iceberg, but hey, I only took over when the guy you actually voted for resigned." No "Hey, sorry I and my cabinet have completely doomed you all!". Just "No, not my fault, oh hey, end of press conference."

The complete failure of the centre parties has the crazy ass we're-not-terrorists-anymore-really Republican fringe campaigning like never before, trying to gather up all the angry, disenfranchised and newly unemployed. They're not doing a bad job of it, either.

There are - finally - spontaneous protests breaking out at the parliament gates and at the national broadcaster. One of the ministers drove over a protester earlier, after one of the cops had pushed him to the ground onto the road. It would be funny if I felt at all like laughing.

Fucking farce of a country.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/nov/21/ireland-bailout-economy-imf-euro

TL, DR version;

Ireland, despite having a well educated, motivated workforce who worked hard through the boom, to buy themselves homes and raise their children, is sinking, having been completely betrayed by a corrupt, incompetent government that will now all retire on fat pensions.

I love Ireland - it's my home - but I just can't imagine having a future here. What kind of future can any country buy with minus 80 billion euro?

Earlier today, protestors broke into the outer compound of the parliament. They were removed by the cops. The parliament is now being quietly guarded by soldiers for the first time I can recall.

I was cranky, and needed to rant somebody, and I commend you for managing to wade your way through it.

Economically, I don't know what's going to happen. Nobody seems to. That doesn't worry me as much as the prospect of Sinn Féin suddenly making all the ground that the central parties have lost. Sinn Féin are a fucking rabble of ultranationalists who up until recently didn't even recognise the Republic of Ireland as a state. If people vote for them out of spite, if they're put in any kind of power, we'll step decades back in time.

I don't mean to Godwin, but I'm worried that a bit of economic hardship will send people into the arms of some deeply unsavoury parties. There's a definite sense of "shit just got real" in Ireland at the minute.

Nearly got assaulted on the Blue Line tonight on the way home from work by some crazy drunk jackass, pretty much unprovoked. Got really lucky and the train stopped just as it was starting to leave to let me on, which apparently aggravated this man enough to move from a different car to the one I was at to scream at me and accuse me of slamming on the glass and repeatedly call me a piece of shit and kick at me and follow me to another car when I got tired of his bullshit. He was pretty easily outsmarted and got off the train when I pretended to.

He's right, though. Nobody worries about this sort of thing here. Or, at least, nobody did. He may have actually done us a bit of a service in that sense.

Not that I'm saying we should all walk around terrified, mind you. But Portland as a whole tends to consider itself internationally irrelevant enough to be a nontarget for this sort of thing. I'd have expected to see this from a disgruntled environmental or antiwar extremist group much sooner.

Not to accidentally nearly quote one of those lines from that song from that band, but I wrote a letter last night, with a pen, and it was really weird how really weird it felt. It was just a totally foreign exercise to write something by hand. Like, I understand the mechanics of it all and everything, but actually doing it doesn't feel automatic or familiar at all anymore and takes a bit of concentration. I'm honestly not sure I could definitely recognise my own handwriting if presented with random samples of it.

It sucks not to be able to spellcheck or delete. When I was in school, I had to write until my finger blistered, but as soon as I finished, it was keyboards all the way. I can type faster than I can write, and almost as fast as I can speak, so I have no need to do it at all, really, beyond the odd diagram or equation.

- Futurama: Fry, Farnsworth, Zoidberg, Zapp, Nixon
- Ren & Stimpy: Stimpy, Ren (the final 3 years)
- (the original) Doug: Doug Funnie, Roger Klotz
- He is pretty much the only guy cast as Elmer Fudd's voice since the 90s and splits time with two other guys for Bugs Bunny. He was Bugs Bunny in Space Jam.

Nice career.
