So, my 2 year old son was bitten by my daughter's rat this morning. Huge gash on his hand and 16 stitches at the ER! my wife took video of him coming out of the sedation they gave him and it is so sad but so damn cute at the same time. i was crying, i was laughing. they shot him up with ketamine, i was jealous! i was stuck in the hospital and so gutted i couldn't be there to be with them, but i guess he was a total trooper and was flirting with all the cute nurses the whole time he was there, that's my boy...

home now after 9 days in the hospital myself, so nice.

the great news is there is a new drug going to trial that may actually correct the gene defect that causes cystic fibrosis and i am eligible for the study! if this works it will basically mean a cure :) all the damage that has already been done will remain, which means i will still be functioning at ~45% of what is considered normal lung function. it would also mean no more hospitals, no more i.v.'s, no more surgeries, and no more pain and suffering from this disease.

i am quite scared about that possibility, though. this disease has been such a part of my life since i first began feeling the effects of it at 14 years old(was born with the disease, though). 3-4 hospitalizations a year which in total equals about a quarter of every year spent on i.v.'s, 1+ surgeries a year, at least half a dozen pills every day, and everything else that has gone along with that the last 18 years. the loneliness, isolation, fear of dying young, self destructive "fuck the world" moments, etc.

a future without any of the above is a pure mindfuck at this point as i have never expected a cure in my lifetime. i am really (REALLY) scared, yet really excited about a whole new way of living that may come from this. no counting the chickens before they hatch...but for now there actually is hope, something i have not been able to feel up to this point.

and if a cure is found i will be throwing the biggest fucking party ever....and you are all invited.

What? Is this rat like some humongous 18 pound rodent from hell? 16 stitches seems a lot for a 2 year old.

JustSteve
08-26-2010, 09:51 PM
they used really thin thread hoping to minimize scarring, so it took a bit more. the gash was probably a good inch/inch and a half, though. i think the rat held on and there was some ripping of the skin involved :(

So, I was planning to get a student loan and go back to school last month, but I needed copies of my GED and proof that my criminal past had been cleared. (Isn't over 20 years proof enough?) Apparently, the state has no record of any GED, nor any record of ever being a criminal. (Ever.) While that may not be all bad, I certainly didn't want to get started on the course, and then have something come up and bite me in the ass, so I postponed my start date to get my affairs in order...

Now, after recently losing a friend to Cancer, a new obstacle may be coming up...possible motherhood. Or, I should say parenthood. (I know, the thought of me doing either has got to be good for a laugh! LOL See? I'm laughing...) It turns out that Pete's daughter will be getting deployed in about 3 months and will be out to sea for 6-8 months. Her mother was going to take over the maternal duties while she was away...Her mother is the friend I lost to Cancer a few weeks ago, so it's looking like we may be stepping up to the plate. So my former manager submitted a business case to our Director yesterday; it contained financial information for an employee recognition program that I manage (and that she helped craft). I also submitted a business case yesterday that contained the financials on this program; the Director pulled me into her office this morning to let me know that my number was waayyy different than hers (I'm talking almost a $1 mil off).

I was just able to prove that my numbers are right and hers are totally wrong. Which makes her look completely stupid because she helped develop the program in the first place and should know the financial information on it.

Is it bad that this has made me gleeful beyond compare and is probably going to be the best part of my whole day?

Still watching, but I have questions now. Do you suppose the the 3 vacant spots in line are there because they got tired of waiting and thought they'd have a better time on the Lollercoaster? And if so, why doesn't the line move forward? I hate waiting in lines where people leave huge voids like that. And I'm rather embarrassed to admit that I'm not real sure what the LMAO and the ROLF are doing in the far right hand room, but I think the one on top is lying on their back. If that's the case, aren't they doing it wrong?

US troops 'murdered Afghan civilians and kept body parts'
Cpl Jeremy Morlock (l) and Specialist Michael Wagnon (r) Cpl Morlock (l) and Specialist Wagnon (r) and 10 other infantrymen have been charged

A group of US soldiers murdered a number of Afghan civilians and took body parts as trophies, documents released by military officials allege.

The charging sheets relate to allegations that five US soldiers were involved in the murders of civilians in January, February and May of this year.

A further seven servicemen are accused of a conspiracy to cover up the crimes.

Lawyers for some of the accused have denied the accusations, while the army has yet to begin a review of the cases.

'Appropriate engagements'

In charge sheets obtained from the US Army, Staff Sgt Calvin Gibbs, Cpl Jeremy Morlock, Pte First Class Andrew Holmes, Specialist Michael Wagnon and Specialist Adam Winfield are accused of murdering male Afghan civilians with grenades and firearms.

Other soldiers were accused of stabbing an Afghan corpse, taking or possessing photographs of casualties and beating other men in an effort to keep them from talking to investigators.

The soldiers were attached to the Army's Fifth Stryker brigade, which deployed to Afghanistan last year and has seen heavy fighting around Kandahar. They were based in Washington state.

Army spokeswoman Major Kathleen Turner told the BBC the cases were in a preliminary phase of investigation and military prosecutors had yet to decide whether to move ahead with proceedings.

The BBC's Kevin Connolly in Washington says the legal process is likely to be long and complex.

Among other charges, military prosecutors say Staff Sgt Gibbs possessed finger bones, leg bones and a tooth taken from Afghan corpses, and showed fingers to another soldier and threatened to kill him if he reported drug use to commanding officers.

Staff Sgt Gibbs' lawyer Phillip Stackhouse told the Associated Press news agency his client said the shootings were "appropriate engagements", and he denied any conspiracy to murder Afghans.

The case against the men is built largely around statements by Cpl Morlock, US media report.

But Cpl Morlock's lawyer told the Seattle Times his client's statements were made while he was suffering from concussion, was under the influence of prescription drugs, and was being evacuated.

A BRIT teen who sent an email to the White House calling President Obama a "p***k" has been banned from America FOR LIFE.

The furious FBI asked local cops to tell college student Luke Angel, 17, his drunken insult was "unacceptable". Luke yesterday admitted he fired off a single email criticising the US Government after seeing a TV programme about 9/11.

He said: "I don't remember exactly what I wrote as I was drunk. But I think I called Barack Obama a p***k. It was silly - the sort of thing you do when you're a teenager and have had a few."

Luke, of Silsoe, Beds, said it was "a bit extreme" for the FBI to act.

He added: "The police came and took my picture and told me I was banned from America forever. I don't really care but my parents aren't very happy."

A Beds Police spokesman said: "The individual sent an email to the White House full of abusive and threatening language. We were informed by the Metropolitan Police and went to see him. He said, 'Oh dear, it was me'."

Officers will take no criminal action.

Joanne Ferreira, of the US Department of Homeland Security, said there are about 60 reasons a person can be barred.

She added: "We are prohibited from discussing specific cases."

My dad brought him into the kitchen wrapped his finger, applied pressure, and sent my brother and I with a bowl of ice to go out and find the severed finger. My brother had to pick it up. I couldn't touch it. The kid came back a few weeks later and showed us how they were able to sew his finger back on.

After my hospital stay I went a few weeks where I had to talk myself into eating, I wasn't really hungry but I would get dizzy whenever I stood up so I would force myself to eat something at least once a day. I am so happy I enjoy food again.

What’s the farthest you have ever walked at one time? When JFK was around there was this push to walk 50 miles. I walked from Denver to Greeley (52miles). I had to have a ride back. Wimp here.

Not much is known Ron and I'm not sure it matters. Tons of politicians and people in general have mentally ill or even hard core criminals in their family and doesn't have a thing to do with anyone else in the family.

Doesn't your state have some crazy ass governor race going on as well?

Screw all the food threads:

A breatharian is a person who does not eat or drink and is nourished by pure energy. Some sources say that breatharians live of light, some say they live off prana, others say it is sunlight, or air.

Ron is pretty much admitting to being a fern, which is about right considering his level of coherency and relevance.
