I was just reading about this thing called the integratron in the Mojave desert, and this was their description on the official website:

The Integratron is the creation of George Van Tassel, and is based on the design of Moses’ Tabernacle, the writings of Nikola Tesla and telepathic directions from extraterrestrials. This one-of-a-kind building is a 38-foot high, 55-foot diameter, non-metallic structure originally designed by Van Tassel as a rejuvenation and time machine. Today, it is the only all-wood, acoustically perfect sound chamber in the U.S.

Who wants to go?

I accept the job on the 15th and it is clear I'm not starting till 19th. I have four weeks to complete the job. On the 16th I get an email saying they would like an E sheet on the 20th, so they can get some field dimensions. Nice, ok. Now this week I get an email asking where I am and if they can get anything. So much for four weeks. But, I'll be sending the lower level and the columns, so I'm doing pretty good. They better make a fucking progress payment...fuckers!

Is it recommended to take College Algebra and Statistics during the same semester?

If it helps, it would be the only classes I take next semester.

I don't really have a choice, unless I delay getting my AA another semester.
I'm just not certain how shitty it's going to be for those few months...

If you don't have a choice then why are you asking? I'd just do them, it's not like algebra is difficult. Statistics blow but so long as you can memorize it's fine.

HunterGather

I dunno...I guess reassurance.
I don't HAVE to, per-say. But why wait a whole semester.
Unfortunately, unlike a lot of classes, there aren't flex start classes for these 2 I need (as in, i can't take an abbreviated course first half of semester, and the next class the 2nd half of semester, which I anticipated on).

Oh well.
I'll just be full of numbers for 4 months.

How much does musical instrument one-on-one instruction generally cost?

A musician friend of mine has been teaching me bass, and I feel like I should probably be paying him, but it's weird and I don't want to insult him by suggesting a figure that's too high or low.

I'm currently paying $40/hour for drum lessons... but, I agree with the above statement - if he doesn't bring up payment himself, then do something nice for him. Bake him some cookies the next time he's coming over or something. If he's doing it as a friend, then payment may not be necessary, but it's always nice to get acknowledgment. Something should always be given in exchange, even if it seems economically disproportionate with what you're getting. Little gestures mean a lot to people - sometimes more than direct payment.

After working there for 4 months, I'm officially a Whole Foods snob. I just went shopping at a conventional chain grocery store because I'm sick and it's close and I needed food kind of immediately, and I was just disgusted by everything. I couldn't even bring myself to buy any of the produce besides two oranges. The strawberries seriously had mold on them and half the produce bins were empty. Maybe it's just because I was shopping at midnight. Still pretty offputting. Ended up just getting frozen vegetables, canned soup, and fruit juice. Also, I don't know how Whole Foods gets such a bad reputation for being expensive when the conventional stores are just as expensive if not more for crappier food. A lot of the fruit is cheaper, but just about everything else was the same damned price or higher. Not that Whole Foods is any kind of ideal, just that it's amazing how bad the conventional stores are after getting used to a slight upgrade.

Is "I'll be on you like a cheap suit" an actual saying? I just read a news article in which a policeman used that phrase. Does a cheap suit do a more intense job of being on you than any other item of clothing?

Flight Attendant at JFK Pulls Emergency Chute, Flies Coop (http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local-beat/Airline-Steward-at-JFK-Pulls-Emergency-Chute-Flies-Coop-100286494.html)

A flight attendant ran out of patience on a plane that just landed at JFK on Monday afternoon, so he allegedly cursed a blue streak over the p.a. system, grabbed some beers, pulled the emergency chute, slid down and ran from the plane, sources said...

...He is being charged with 2nd-and 4th-degree criminal mischief

If I'm ever charged with a crime, mischief sounds like a fun choice.

That was one of my favorite bits, as was this...

But a former flight attendant, Janet Bavasso, who lives next door to Mr. Slater in Queens, found nothing mysterious at all.

“Enough is enough — good for him,” Ms. Bavasso said. “If he would have called me, I would have picked him up.”

The further I read, the better it gets.

According to Slater's statement to law enforcement, his message on the P.A. was "To those of you who have shown dignity and respect over the last 20 years, thanks for a great ride."

He proceeded to the chute, looked down to ensure that nobody was below it as he had been trained to do, and he deployed the device and went down it safely, his attorney said.

BOttom line is that the FA should be suspended for stealing beers and blowing a slide (that costs around $125-150k for the repair and the time the a/c is off the line). Passenger should be arrested/fined for failing to comply with a flight crew member and assault.

Just got back to Alaska from Lollapalooza. My verdict on Lolla: some really good sets, but it's no Coachella.

And to GeezrRckr: If you're that black-and white in your hatred of Ted Stevens, you don't know nearly as much about him as you should to be making statements like that. He did a lot of good in his time, and if there was bad that came with, I would respond, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." I'm not his cheerleader, and I voted against him, but I can't deny his role in turning Alaska from a glorified colony into a state. He was a complicated political figure, and he deserves far more than a tossed-off demand that he burn in hell.

In fact I sometimes implement a coffee and nectarine regimine in order to get myself back in shape after several weeks of partying and dragging ass.

I drink a pot a day. I love my coffee. Black.

I'm a woman, Ron. I only use hammers to kill spiders. And even then, only when there's not a big strong man around to do it for me.

This makes me sad that Louise Bourgeois died. She was a champion. And might I add, a champion who did not make it to 98 years old on big macs and donuts alone.

You know, you try to be nice to people, and the next thing you know a strange person on a bicycle asks if you want to be friends and to exchange emails with you.

That's information I generally don't give out to people I don't know.

At night on the street.

I met my new neighbors this morning, or at least their drunk friends. I was leaving for work at 6:30 am and ran into this couple outside my front door, they were very loud, very obviously drunk and funny as hell. They kept telling me hello (like 4 times) and then the guy told me how pretty I was before he blew me a kiss. Then when we ran into each other again at the bottom of the stairs he was amazed by the fact that there were two sets of stairs and we got down them at the same exact time... which was OH SO COOL!!!! Up until now all I had was the crazy cat lady and the lesbian couple with the loud ass dog. I am kind of excited.

I've been doing wedding research and I just discovered that I had forgotten that Shel Silverstein died. That's sad.

Man, Shel Silverstein so didn't look like a quirky childrens' poet

But yeah, he was only 69, not that old. Amazing guy.

Proof that we are very different: I would have no issues with the crazy cat lady (obviously), I could tolerate the lesbian couple's loud dog, and I would have to kill the neighbors who have the type of parties where people are still drunk at 6:30 a.m. and hanging out right by the door to my apartment. During the week, no less. Kill with fire.

Random apartment-related story: I got a visit from apartment security person once when I was listening to music fairly loud while I cleaned in the middle of the afternoon. My music of choice? Seal. Fucking Seal. So thankful to have a house now.

In my San Diego apartment we were once the recipients of a noise complaint for traversing the (linoleum) kitchen in heels.

i was at a friend's HOUSE, with 4 other people playing a board game at 7pm and had the cops called on us. The cop looked in the screen door and literally said, "what the fuck?"

I was laughing pretty hard.

We also got noise complaints for board games, but to be fair we were wasted and probably making much more noise than we thought we were.

So far our new place has been pretty good. We've been blasting music while we sit on the balcony, and we also did party poppers on the balcony while yelling a lot, and we generally make a lot of noise that no one seems to care about.

I had a party once on my deck. I pulled out two mattresses, we had some night stands with lamps on them, a few chairs and pillows all over. Everyone came with their jammies. I thought the neighbors were going to call the cops, but they just came over :)

This was the first time hearing any neighbors other than the dog who barks all the time and I only hear him when he is outside. The neighbors didn't wake me up so it didn't bother me though. Had it been 630 am on a Saturday I might have been pissed though.
