with only 10 deaths a year, how would they stay in business? are they hoping to be a tourist destination?

i've had an idea for a movie about suicide clinics for a long time (even before i had seen soylent green). in my movie though, it would be an underground company that helps to fake a terminal illness. because what's the one downside to suicide? you don't get all the pre-death sympathy like you would if you were terminally ill. only once you sign the contract, you wouldn't be able to back out because the company would then sell your organs on the black market.

I found this story:

SALINAS, Calif. – A California couple faces child endangerment charges after police say they tried to sell their 6-month-old baby for $25 outside a Walmart store.
Salinas police spokesman, Officer Lalo Villegas, said Thursday that Patrick Fousek, 38, and Samantha Tomasini, 20, were arrested early Wednesday, hours after Fousek allegedly approached two women outside Walmart and asked if they'd like to purchase his child.
The women initially thought Fousek was joking, but when he became persistent, they became suspicious and reported it to police, Villegas said.
"They did an outstanding job and gave our officers good information. I don't know if they're mothers but they definitely had that instinct to help," Villegas said.
Fousek and Tomasini were arrested at 1 a.m. Wednesday at their home. Officers said the couple appeared high on methamphetamine and the house was in disarray. A police report also claimed that Tomasini told Child Protective Services, who took the baby, that she had breast-fed the infant while under the influence, Villegas said.
The couple was also booked on charges of being under the influence of narcotics, and Fousek was also served with an extra charge of violating probation. Villegas did not have details of Fousek's previous brush with the law.
The couple was expected to be in court for an arraignment Friday, at which time they would be assigned public defenders.

And then asked my friend from Salinas if she knew them. Her response?

post-sympathy never goes away. you commit an act [suicide] that those around you will remember until the day they die. you can't forget it. you get unending post-death sympathy.

Eastern Time Zone Views
The eclipse will be invisible to almost everyone in the Eastern time zone, as the Moon either will be below the horizon as the eclipse begins, or nearly so, as in the westernmost parts of the time zone like Louisville and Atlanta.

Central Time Zone Views
The majority of viewers in the Central time zone will see most of the eclipse. Those in the easternmost areas of the time zone, like Chicago and Memphis, won’t see much, as the Moon will have set or be sinking below the horizon as the eclipse begins. But folks in the central and westernmost parts of the central time zone, including most of Texas, will see the majority of the event, from the beginning through greatest eclipse and some of the waning of the eclipse. The Moon will sink below the horizon before the eclipse ends.

Mountain Time Zone Views
Everyone in the Mountain time zone will see the beginning of the eclipse. Those in the easternmost portions of the time zone, like Rapid City, SD, and Denver, will only see the beginning of the event. The Moon will sink below the horizon before it reaches greatest eclipse. Those further west, such as Salt Lake City and Boise, ID, will see most of the event, from the beginning, through greatest eclipse, and part of the eclipse’s waning. The Moon will sink below the horizon before the eclipse ends.

I might add that there was a young girl skipping alongside of him wearing big white glasses and a smile as she tried to get his old ass to start skipping with her. HG, cats are incredibly low-maintenance. The SPCA should offer low-cost neutering (if your boy still has his bits), and they may offer low-cost distemper/rabies vaccinations as well. I support you keeping him indoors...I don't believe in indoor/outdoor or outdoor cats. I've taken in outdoor strays before, and after a few days in a comfortable home, they don't seem so keen on the outdoors anymore. :p

You might want to put flyers up around your complex, just in case. That cat looks like he's been eating and whatnot. He may belong to someone.

My cat goes outside but she stays in the yard; mostly just chases birds.

From the jonsi site:

Jónsi’s own special recipe raw chocolate bars are handmade by Pete and Laetitia at ROAR. Using only the finest quality raw cacao that is traceable from the source indigenous organic cooperatives in Ecuador where the farmers receive at least 30% extra for their crop. (Not from West Africa where the majority of chocolate comes from and is produced primarily using child slave labour.)

Make sure you check everything out, even little shit that you wouldn't think would need to be checked, like light switches, shower pressure, door locks into bathrooms, dishwasher, etc. I learned a big lesson after that condo down the road from your old place. Talk to the neighbors to see how they like living there. Go during several different times of day and weekdays/weekend to observe the neighborhood and noise levels and such.

Ask about your ability to paint/drill holes into walls/etc. if that is a concern for you.

Ask about getting maintenance requests filled and the process for getting things fixed. Ask who can be contacted in case of emergency, and what happens if you can't reach him/her.

Ask about parking, and also guest parking, if that's relevant.

Ask what the number one tenant complaint is. Ask if there are any problem neighbors.

Ask how many security problems or break-ins they have had in the past year.

Ask about laundry, if you don't have a washing machine and dryer in your individual unit. Ask what the ratio is for people to machines, and if they are available 24 hours.

Ask if there is a grace period for rent payments.

totally agreed. but i'm also the type that pulls out all the pans & measures out all the ingredients before i even start cooking. that leaves way more time for cleaning as i go. plus baked on shit is MUCH easier to get off if you tackle it right away & i can enjoy my meal a whole lot more knowing the dishes are soaking.

I don't let guests clean, but I always notice favorably when it's attempted. This would probably be different if I were cooking for the same person on a regular basis (in a relationship of some sort), but as far as guests go in general, I'll deal with the mess when you leave unless it's in the way of the rest of the occasion.

EDIT: Statements made in reference to a previous question - question not quoted for posterity.

Seriously. I'm fucking sick of news reporters' sense of outrage.

You might enjoy this then. Fox news crew is really upset that Bill Maher didn't apologize to all Catholics and then when he does, they aren't pleased with it and consider it not an apology.

ZOMG, he used the litter-box i made for him :D

He really likes me. Though, I'm worried at some point he might want to go outside... I'll let him stay til friday, and see how I (we) feel.
I felt the same way after making dinner for Pete the first time. :)
BTW, you made a litterbox? Does the cat know that? I mean, did he actually see you toiling over the project? If so, prepare yourself for a takeover any day now.LOL

I'm guessing these chocolate bars contain over 200 calories and 1 ounce of cocaine in each serving.

Wasn't much too it. I had a nice sized rectangular box, lined the bottom with newspaper, and poured litter on top. It knew what to do right away :D

I'm gonna let him out tomorrow morning since I won't be home all weekend.

Oh, and Hunter, that stuff on Sammy's ears is dried blood and ear mite poop. (One sign he may have been homeless, afterall.) And,if you managed to bathe Sammy unscathed, and the bathroom's still intact, chances are really good he won't mind you swabbing his ears out with mineral oil on a cottonball or Q-tip. In fact, after seeing you build a litterbox, he'll almost expect it from you. Then you can go all the way back to WalMart and grab Ear Mite drops. Oh, and maybe a cat collar, a chewing toy, a bag of catnip, and other assorted kitty accessories.

I think you are the first person to ever tell a positive like Cat Bath story. Ever.

I didn't really say it was a success. It got done. It would stay still for a moment, then try to break loose, and repeat. So far, he's not much of a scratcher at all. It meowed in fear more than tried to attack me. But it did scratch me once towards the end on my hand.

Also, getting it looked at/examined/etc. costs some money I don't have at the moment.
And I'm gone for 3 days & I'm not about to leave a stray cat with a friend. If he's hanging around my breezeway sometime when I'm back...

So you put all the leftovers away and soak the dishes prior to eating? I am usually too hungry by that point so I just wait till after I am done eating. At least I think that is how I did it, I pretty much gave up cooking about 8 years ago.
20 years of food and beverage experience just went out the window after reading this. I'm so confused that I decided about 8 seconds ago to stop at Del Taco for our dining experience tonight.

Maybe there is a positive in that. You might fool facebook ...

In the current Photos feature, users upload photos, click on each face in a photo, tag that photo with the friend pictured therein and continue the process until the album is tagged.

If you've got a large album or a lot of friends in a single photo, this process is inefficient and tedious. To solve this problem, Facebook has implemented face detection technology that will automatically find faces in photos and select them, eliminating one of the most tedious steps in tagging Facebook friends in photos. You just answer who the person is.

I ended up turning it down. I have enough on my plate right now that i felt comfortable doing so.

He's a guy I worked with a year ago and it was a little out of the blue getting a call from him...I suspect he was going through a list of editors and everyone was turning him down left and right.

I do hate turning down work, but this would have definitely been an all or nothing thing. I suspect i would have been putting in a 12-14 hour day in front of the computer tomorrow and I'm just not willing to do that at this very moment.

Ugh.

Sharron Angle is even goofier than Sarah Palin. And she has a 7 point lead on Harry Reid in the Nevada Senate race.

Angle: I feel that the Second Amendment is the right to keep and bear arms for our citizenry. This not for someone who's in the military. This not for law enforcement. This is for us. And in fact when you read that Constitution and the founding fathers, they intended this to stop tyranny. This is for us when our government becomes tyrannical...

Manders: If we needed it at any time in history, it might be right now.

Angle: Well it's to defend ourselves. And you know, I'm hoping that we're not getting to Second Amendment remedies. I hope the vote will be the cure for the Harry Reid problems.

So is there any big technology company that hasn't had a huge wave of defective products followed by shitty service at this point?

Dell is has a nice little shit storm thanks to bad capaciters. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2366028,00.asp

Samsung has/had the same issue causing tvs to die in about 18 months.
Apple had the ipod battery issues
Microsoft Xbox 360 RROD (Original Xbox also had a bad batch of drives by Thompson)
Sony Ps1 and 2 (Drive failure on early Ps1 was inevitable, Ps2's has widespread DDE)
Nintendo has been solid since the NES. (I did return a DS that was DOA)

I have had all of these problems except the dell one. I am like a defect magnet.
I am currently finding out if Samsung is going to fix this TV. Its too big a loss for me to shrug off. I can't see myself recommending or buying a Samsung TV anytime soon.

Well my problem is there is no guide for quality anymore.
Doesn't matter who you buy it from and the price you pay, all these companies seem to go retard when a rash of defects pops up. Everybody was pimping Samsung when I made my choice, and it was not a cheap TV. Its not nearly old nor obsolete enough for me to just buy a new one. Thankfully I seem to have waited long enough to address the issue that they are just recently taking care of it. We will see.
