I got this from my admin this morning. It's not at all funny.

All I did was try to take the recycle bin out to the curb. For my troubles, I was attacked by bees that apparently have taken up residence in the side of my neighbor's house. While trying to get out of there I fell on my butt on a cactus. Four bee stings and several hundred thorns in the rear later, I don't think I dare drive today. I don't even want to SIT today :(

How about I see you guys tomorrow?

MOSCOW - A Russian region best known as the birthplace of Vladimir Lenin has found a novel way to fight the nation’s birthrate crisis: It has declared Sept. 12 the Day of Conception and for the third year running is giving couples time off from work to procreate.

The hope is for a brood of babies exactly nine months later on Russia’s national day. Couples who “give birth to a patriot” during the June 12 festivities win money, cars, refrigerators and other prizes.

Ulyanovsk, a region on the Volga River about 550 miles east of Moscow, has held similar contests since 2005. Since then, the number of competitors, and the number of babies born to them, has been on the rise.

Scott Walker Instrumental Album Due Next Month

Wait, another Scott Walker album? So soon?

Yep, so soon. It's not exactly The Drift II, but on September 24 in the UK, 4AD will release Scott Walker's And Who Shall Go to the Ball? And What Shall Go to the Ball? in a very limited, never-to-be-pressed again edition. Despite a mouthful of a title, ...the Ball? is a 25-minute-long, four-movement instrumental suite. It emerged out of Walker's score for a dance piece by choreographer Rafael Bonachela's dance company CandoCo. CandoCo, comprised of both able-bodied and physically disabled dancers, debuted the piece at Manchester, England's Contact Theatre in April.

Walker said of the music and its relationship to the unique troupe: "Apart from a slow movement given over to solitude, the music is full of edgy and staccato shapes or cuts, reflecting how we cut up the world around us as a consequence of the shape of our bodies. How much of a body does an intelligence need to be potentially socialised in an age of ever-developing AI [artificial intelligence]? This is but one of many questions that informed the approach to the project."

Scott has a bunch of UK tour dates plotted throughout Septem-- no, no he doesn't. Gotcha! There are, however, a number of CandoCo performances of the ...Ball? piece on the way, which we've lined up after the jump.

Balls:

09-25 London, England - Southbank Centre
09-26 London, England - Southbank Centre
10-16 Poole, England - Lighthouse
10-17 Poole, England - Lighthouse
10-23 Sheffield, England - Crucible
10-26 Hatfield, England - University of Herts
11-08 Leicester, England - Peepul Centre
11-15 Malvern, England - Malvern Theatre
11-24 Newcastle, England - Dance City

Bears eat man at beer festival
BELGRADE, Serbia (Reuters) -- A 23-year old Serb was found dead and half-eaten in the bear cage of Belgrade Zoo at the weekend during the annual beer festival.

The man was found naked, with his clothes lying intact inside the cage. Two adult bears, Masha and Misha, had dragged the body to their feeding corner and reacted angrily when keepers tried to recover it.

"There's a good chance he was drunk or drugged. Only an idiot would jump into the bear cage," zoo director Vuk Bojovic told Reuters.

Local media reported that police found several mobile phones inside the cage, as well as bricks, stones and beer cans. E-mail to a friend

lampworking sounds like it might lose its fun after about a week.
welding would be AWESOME!
standup comedy is great too.

my school had Mortuary Sciences electives. Apparently there were a lot of kids that went to my community college to learn about dead people n stuff.

I've done lampworking. I love it. Mostly, you just have to get used to keeping the rod spinning while you work. But really, it's so much more satisfying than fusing. Instant gratification. It's been awhile though, so I'd start back at the beginning.

let me know if you want a 'when are you going to get your life together?' lecture. I know your mom is a hippie so you may not be getting that much-needed kick in the ass from her.

Go ahead. It's going to fall on deaf ears, though. It's important that you remember that I didn't quit real school. There were two english classes in the entire school, and having tested out of the first one, I would have had one semester of basic english composition or nothing at all. Everything else was stuff like History of Costume or Color Theory. In any case, I was getting up every day and going to a place I hated. Or not going, which was often the case. Now, I am getting up every day and going somewhere I love.

But yeah, go ahead, Tom.

text messaging ettiquette < MiddleAgedWoman > 09/03 12:41:59

Can someone shed light on the etiquette of text messaging please?

I recently got a cellphone and gave the number to a young man of 29 to call me about something. Well, this young man called way too much and then texted lurid things, calling me sexy and texting of his desire for spooning.

I think this is highly inappropriate and over the lines of the context of how I met this young man. I never replied to his text messages (I do not know how) and when I saw the young man in person I told him straight and clear that romance with me is an impossibility. I told to not ever text message me again with inappropriate comments and to remember that I am 20 years his senior and not available to him at all! He said "it is in the eye of the beholder" I said "that is besides the point, I am just not available for romance with you."

My etiquette question is this - is lurid inappropriate text messages common? Do people commonly use text messaging technology to text inappropriate things they would never dare say in person?

I want to know if this sort of bad behavior is common...I have no desire to read the wet dream fantasies of boys.

I am a woman and I agree with you 100%. < Mildread- > 09/03 13:49:11

This text crap is out of control.
This is not what and/or how human beings should be communicating with eachother; especially when it comes to trying to have a personal relationship with another person.

It's one thing if a person uses that "Morris-Code" crap to warn a troop about an oncoming bomb that is headed for their damn ship.
It is another thing when you are trying to court a lady with a little, tiny, tiny, tiny screen.

It is a freaking little screen that humans are typing out and receiving numerous misunderstanding through, and they bitch and cry that they don't understand "Why?????"

Pick up the damn phone and dial the ten numbers and put your ear onto the top of the freaking phone handle.
You will actually be able to HEAR the other person LIVE. If you misunderstood a statement, then you can say so and ASK QUESTIONS.

Your life is going to suck so freaking bad if you don't listen to me.
And I hope you all had a lovely holiday weekend. Oh mine was beautiful.

Then various accusations of the original poster being prude, followed by

You think the OP sounds prudish???? < Mildread- > 09/03 13:52:51

The biggest, full-blown prudes are
the assholes who won't dare communicate with a girl or a guy in person, for FEAR of human contact.

You young NERDS, and others, are the prudes.

Text messaging = Iron body condom

well now I know < MiddleAgedWoman > 09/03 18:46:14

I did not know giving a phone number opened a person up to text messaging.

Nor did I know that young men are so out of line with what they send in text on a telephone.

The young men may be forward with typing on tiny keys, but they certainly lack an in person presence that would appeal to me in any way.

Such a waste, such hot bods and such dull minds.

I confess that I only really posted this so that I could sig from it.

Hannah, you missed out on the best, most absurd sentence in that exchange.

I have thereby stolen it for MY sig.

I saw it and considered it, but there's a lot to choose from here. A veritable smorgasbord of idiocy.

I've been trying to get the hang of that Morris Code stuff myself, for the next time I'm out boating.

I confess that I am against the sigging of things not originally written for this board. That may just be me, though.

I was tempted by the line you quoted, though.

I figured some people were. But I was going to sig it anyway, either on the board or on my person somehow. I thought I'd at least offer an explanation and a laugh.

Goddamn I wish there was a sig function in real life. Other than just writing something on myself.

I might have been a little concerned about his hygiene if it had still been there by the time I would have seen it anyway.

I mean, I know he's touring and everything. But.
