A population-based case-control study in western Washington state was performed to assess the relation between head trauma and meningioma. Based on 200 case and 400 control subjects, head trauma was associated with an increased risk of meningioma (odds ratio = 1.83; 95% CI = 1.28, 2.62), especially head traumas occurring 10 to 19 years before reference date (odds ratio = 4.33; 95% CI = 2.06, 9.10). A dose-response relationship was present for number, but not severity, of head traumas. Whether the associations observed in this study are causal remains unclear.

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:6 (KJV)

Pink floyd, Sheep ..There is a "subliminal" message on this song that is a parody of the "Lord's Prayer". It is heard beneath the music in a robotic, distorted voice, with sheep heard in the background. "The Lord is my shepherd, He converteth me to lamb cutlets....".

On the web today. Researchers at the University of Leeds in Britain have carried out the study and discovered that humans in crowd actually flock like sheep, subconsciously following a minority of individuals who seem to know where they are going.

Any college people have an opinion on this? I think (I hope) I know how it will go but it still is 5 to 4 conservatives vs. liberals so who knows. It was the Ninth Circuit Court that made the ruling so most know what their conclusions usually are. cr****

On February 4, 2010, numerous Amici Curiae filed briefs in the U.S. Supreme Court in support of CLS. These briefs are available here.

On January 28, 2010, Brief for Petitoner was filed in the U.S. Supreme Court. Click here to download the brief.

On December 7, 2009, the U.S. Supreme Court granted CLS's petition for certiorari. Click here for Press Release and quotes.

Summary

The Christian Legal Society (CLS) chapter at the University of California - Hastings College of the Law filed a lawsuit on October 22, 2004, against school officials who denied recognition to the group because the chapter requires its officers and voting members to adhere to the CLS Statement of Faith.

The CLS chapter asked school officials in early September 2004 to exempt the group and other religious student organizations from the religion and sexual orientation portions of the university's nondiscrimination policy. As applied to CLS, this nondiscrimination policy would force the chapter to allow persons who hold beliefs and engage in conduct contrary to the CLS Statement of Faith, which includes a prohibition on extramarital sex, to join as voting members and to run for officer positions. School officials denied this request and stripped the chapter of recognition and the benefits of recognition, including student activity fee funding.

In its lawsuit CLS alleges that UC Hastings' exclusion of its chapter violates, among other constitutional rights, CLS' right of expressive association and CLS' right to be free from viewpoint discrimination.

CLS argues that is a violation of the right of expressive association to force a religious student organization to accept officers and voting members who hold beliefs and engage in conduct in opposition to the group's shared viewpoints, thereby inhibiting the group's ability to define and express its message.

CLS also argues that it is a violation of the right to be free from viewpoint discrimination to impose the above requirement on a religious student organization while permitting every other recognized student organization on campus to limit its officers and voting membership to persons who agree with the group's shared viewpoints.

On cross motions for summary judgment, the district court ruled in favor of defendants, including school officials and Hastings Outlaw, a recognized student organization, on April 2006. CLS appealed this ruling. A panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral argument in this case on March 10, 2009. The panel consisted of Chief Judge Alex Kozinski, Judge Proctor Hug, Jr., and Judge Carlos T. Bea. The panel affirmed the district court's opinion, ruling against CLS in an unpublished disposition on March 17, 2009.

On May 5, 2009, CLS filed a petition for writ of certiorari in the Supreme Court, seeking a reversal of the Ninth Circuit's decision against CLS.

The Christian Legal Society's Center for Law & Religious Freedom and the Alliance Defense Fund represent the CLS chapter, and attorneys Timothy Smith and Stephen Burlingham are serving as local counsel.

I probably don't have anything better than my cupcakes to offer, so there will be no pushing and shoving necessary. These are individually flavored cupcakes, baked to perfection for the particular flavor. The bovine cakes are awesome with milk, as you would expect. And, the ovine cakes are light, fluffy, and sweeter than the bovine cakes. They would be great paired up with a cappaccino, or hot tea. Now, the swine cupcakes? Uh, not so much my favorite, but I'm sure there are folks out there who like that bacon-just-rolled in mud flavoring. I guess if you were a beer drinker, the swine cupcakes would be a good choice.

JUNEAU, Alaska – Sarah Palin is lashing out at the portrayal of a character with Down syndrome on the Fox animated comedy "Family Guy."

In a Facebook posting headlined "Fox Hollywood — What a Disappointment," the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee and current Fox News contributor called Sunday night's episode "another kick in the gut." Palin's youngest son, Trig, has Down syndrome.

The episode features the character Chris falling for a girl with Down syndrome. On a date, he asks what her parents do.

She replies: "My dad's an accountant, and my mom is the former governor of Alaska."

Palin resigned as Alaska governor last summer.

Palin's oldest daughter, Bristol, also was quoted on her mother's Facebook page, calling the show's writers "heartless jerks."

A "Family Guy" publicist didn't immediately return an e-mail seeking comment.

Pretty rude to direct it at her, but that doesn't take away from the funny. If anything, it adds to it.

The laughter ends at the fact that her opinion on it is aired, talked about and regurgitated.

But then again she's not even a real person, she's a republican. That means we get to talk about her and her kid like they're worthless.

The joke was fucking funny. That's it. Let it go.

While visiting your great state of Arizona I stopped at a casino. We were playing that electronic roulette. On my right are 3 black guys, across from me a white gal and her possibly mexican boyfriend. To the left of them (my left) is a white guy and his white friend, maybe in their mid twenties. Continuing left is an asian guy, his asian wife and my mexican/irish girlfriend and then me.

We're going along and people are getting excited. The white guys and the girl and b-friend are talking, laughing, all that good stuff. A lot of red was coming up so the white guy starts to "hint" that he wants to bet on black, but he doesn't wanna say it. So he proceeds to talk about how "Wesley Snipes said it in Passenger 57, so I'm gonna try it and see if he's right." He said a couple other things about it, but wouldn't say he wanted to "bet on black". Listening to him walk around it for 2 spins of the wheel was fucking hilarious!! I bet on black several times and vocalized it. It's a fucking game, man. If dude gets offended cause you say "Bet on black", that's his own fucking problem. But it gave me a good laugh.

What I came in here for was this:

It's not that I don't see the possible implications of an implicit master/slave relationship played through racial lines. But for me, the ad is more lazy and stupid than it is racist.

The business man is a typical white-guy-in-khakis archetype, emphasis on the MAN part. So does than mean that the ad is sexist too? No, it's just lazy. The Intel ad guys decided to go with the most easily decodable imagery. Choosing a black sprinter as an analogy for computer speed has been done a million times before and is lazy. Chosing a pasty, khaki-clad guy as a computer geek is just as lazy. Juxtaposing the two figures in one ad is just plain boring.

It's a poorly done ad to be sure, but the real crime here is a lack of creativity.

Hmm. I have little schooling to look at it from a marketing perspective but I'd bet Intel didn't have marketing working with PR back in 2007. Or not closely enough, apparently.

It's just disturbing because inferential racism like this is so much tougher unlearn as it naturalizes the ideology so effectively. Almost more than the blatant master-servant construct, implying that black people's value lies in athletic ability makes me cringe.

Police were left with just minutes to clear the area around Newry courthouse before a car bomb weighing up to 250lbs exploded on Monday night.

No-one was killed or injured in the blast which was heard two miles away. But police said that was a "sheer miracle". Dissident republicans are being blamed for the attack in which a number of buildings were damaged.

People were still being moved to safety at the time of the explosion.

He said the blast happened just 17 minutes after a telephone warning which said that it would go off in half an hour

There's been a couple of things like this lately, but sheer dumb luck has prevailed thus far. Could make for a tense summer up north.

I worked at a country club where the average age of the members was about 75-90. And every Friday Night they'd have entertainment in the main diningroom until 10 pm. (Nobody could stay awake any longer than that! LOL)Usually a trio of some sort that played ballroom music and occassionally whipped out "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" for the friskier members to dance to, but there would be couples out there dancing and having an absolute ball, and then others who could only slowdance, (I'm talking SLOOOOW dance.) and, they'd all have that look of longtime love and happiness in their eyes. I came to the conclusion that the dancing's probably the closest they come to doing the ill-na-na anymore.
And, 62 years together?!! Hell, I can't imagine someone putting up with me for more than 60 minute spurts! LOL

Because your whole life has been both vegan and organic and you've never had a vaccine or taken a single medication. You have never, ever, ever had anything medical done. Or used anything that might have for the slightest moment depended on research done in the life sciences.

I couldn't kill mice. I couldn't even have a snake for a pet because I'd be feeding it mice. I understand that they're used for research, but I'd be too squeamish to end a poor mouse.

Stanley believes that the natural human diet is a totally carnivorous one, thus making it a no-carbohydrate diet, and that all vegetables are toxic.[5] He claims to have eaten almost nothing but meat, eggs, butter and cheese since 1959 and that he believes his body has not aged as much as the bodies of those who eat a more "normal" diet.

Ron, you can deny it all you want but fact is you've benefited from many animals' deaths.

Amy, you'd be surprised. It's not like you're all up in there strangling it or something. When I kill mice I simply over-anaesthetize them.

The b/w pic is the record grooves of a Pink Floyd LP. I was reading our local MMJ rag (it's pretty professionally done btw) and Coachella has a big two page color ad and article in it this month. cr*****edit: sp
Silly me, I should have recognized the part of that picture that's obviously from the song, Brain Damage. I'll have to take another look now.

In other news I am quite the successful mouse surgeon now. My mouse is moving around and looking good with no swelling or inflammation after yesterday's procedure.
Now that would make for an interesting "Nip n' Tuck" episode. Do I dare ask what type of procedure you performed on lil' Mickey? (And, please don't say he was neutered.)

Myself and some friends got very drunk and when we came home one of them puked in my sister's hat.

When I was clearing up the sitting room this afternoon, I found this among the wreckage:

Upon further research on the subject of mice, I have discovered there are indeed several species of meece to be found. From field mice to designer mice, and including lab mice used for science and discovery, I became inspired and thought I'd share my new found wisdom. (The only picture evidence I found in my discovery happened to come from a well-known and often unappreciated artist who really wanted to avoid partaking in this silly-assed research of mine. You may, or wish you didn't, recognize the name, BDoll... Exibit A:

My particular favorite is the field mouse, represented by Tomas Ver'min from the deserts of Arizona, and transplanted in the Coachella Valley for a short time each year. And, with all due respect, I've included perhaps the last photo of Algernon before his demise. If we could begin with a moment of silence while you all grasp this total frigging nonsense...

So, what exactly did you surgically remove? And, what size sewing needle did you use to sew the little guy back up with? I would think a simple straight stitch with the dial set at #5 would be sufficient. Oh, wait. That's a sewing machine. That just won't work unless the mouse is still out cold. My God, can you imagine the trauma if the mouse were to wake up mid-stitch on a sewing machine? Eeeek!
