nah, i'm all talk.

but if i do end up seeing who is doing it i will let it go on for awhile and then collect all the crap and toss it on the porch, unbagged.
Do you even have a dog? Not that that makes a difference, but still, it justifies the uber-pissed you must be feeling. When you say common area, does that mean an HOA? Legally, that's the one to imform. If not, then I like your idea except for one little thing...forget the porch. Go for the mailbox.

Well, this is just weird. I don't think I've seen a fly in several weeks around here. I thought it was because it's been chilly. Now here we are on the subject of dogshit, and this one transien-like fly has decided to invade my backroom and annoy the shit out of me while I'm trying to post. WTF??? Our place isn't big enough for the 2 of us, let alone "Zippy!" (Yes, he's been at this long enough to be named now. Much longer and his last name will be Squashed!)

Okay, I've got a weird little etiquette question.

A friend of mine has had some terrible misfortune over Christmas. I'm sending them a card, on behalf of a group of us. The problem is we met the guy initially through a forum. Is it massively inappropriate to say "From all at (name of forum)"? The group is too large to mention each by name, and I'm uncomfortable signing my own name first for reasons I won't go into.

Suggestions?

I would say something like what you said. You might say "from your FRIENDS". If he feels weird about it, then he doesn't have to show the card to anyone, or he didn't want it from you in the beginning. I wouldn't feel weird at all. Friends are friends. cr****

Why would it possibly be inappropriate? Is there any other identifier in the world you can use to sign something with a sentiment from a message board other than "From Everybody At (name of forum)?"

Hmm. Yeah, we don't really have any other common identifier. It's a funeral thing, so it kinda goes to the whole family rather than just him. It feels like it might be a slightly weird thing he might have to explain if he's got a normal, non-internet family.

Last month, I had a friend seran wrap my car. Not exactly hard to remove, but still time consuming and tedious until I just said fuck it and cut it off with a knife.

Said friend's birthday is on sunday, and I was discussing with them how David Bowie's birthday was on friday and thus the more important birthday of the weekend. They took offense.

So tonight, I drew up this picture and plan on wrapping it to the windshield of her car in a few hours. Say what you will about how childish this may/may not be, but I plan on feeling fucking vindicated by night's end.

Here's the picture I drew.

just got this email, looks like i have a shit ton of money coming my way!!! fuck yeah...

"This is Federal Task force Authority Ghana.

Please ,we will be glad if you supply us with clues to this letter , The
Government of Ghana has been mandated to release all your approved funds to you
in the directives of United Nations. This release was carried out by Ghana
central Bank releasing the total amount of $5.2 Million Dollars to you including
all your lost funds which unscrupulous individuals/organizations collected from
you during your pursuit to get your funds in Africa.

Because of poor International Bank transfers between Africa and the West and due
to past failures to successfully transferring these funds to you, The Bank Of
Ghana was directed to package these funds in a trunk box under High insurance
and immunity, all the required authorities were present for supervision and
security order ,during the packaging such as; International Monetary agency,IMF
Representative, World Bank Rep, West-African Monetary Unit, Printing and Minting
Company of Ghana and security intelligence were all present. This trunk can never
be opened or tampered with after it was packaged because of the high insurance
and security-order until it gets to the beneficiary.
As such, this trunk was deposited in a government approved company , Chase
security and Trust Company Ghana for you to contact them and claim this box.
Due to the fact that this fund release is Free-willed , the government
voluntered to take responsibility of securing clearance papers such as;
Ant-terrorist certificate, Drug-Free certificate ,obtaining the yellow-tag and
also settling all delivery charges, which will cover this trunk so that it will
not be trapped down by any authority whatsoever and for it to pass freely
through Kotoka international airport Accra Ghana and also through your local
airport.

The only fee which you are required to pay is the demmurage of this trunk since
it was deposited in this company since last Febrauary. Government did not make
any avalibale fee for the demmurage because , the time/date which we are able to
contact all beneficiaries is not guaranteed because of loss of contact
information and the time a beneficiary gets to know about this trunk deposit
varies individually, so the government could not specify the exact date we can
be able to contact you and thereby , did not provide funds for the demmurage.

However,I have studied this project and after I went through your information ,
I have a thought that you must be a good person and honest man to deal with and
I decided that I will talk to you so that we can do this transaction together ,
because with my position here, I will make sure that this trunk is released and
delivered in your house address .And any fees that will come up , we will settle
it together. And after you receive the trunk, I can now fly into your country to
meet you for us to settle.I will suggest that we handle this 50/50 , so that
every expenses will be shared equally and also when the trunk is delivered to
you, the money will also be shared in the same ratio as we have spent. If you
accept me to help you to do this in good faith, we can proceed.

You are expected to re-confirm with us your ; Full names , Contact address ,
Telephone Number , Fax (if Any ) , Send also any of your Personal ID , so that
we can go ahead to give you details and guild lines for us to proceed.
I wait for your quick response so that we can handle this project at the
earliest time. Write back through fedtskforceghappiaht1@gmail.com

You can as well call this line for more information : +233 24 154 87 19

I worked for Pearson and scored the SAT essays the first couple of years they were implemented and that's definitely not the case.

Here's the scoring guide...

Scoring GuideThe essay will be scored by experienced and trained high school and college teachers. Each essay will be scored by two people who won't know each other's score. They won't know the student's identity or school either. Each reader will give the essay a score from 1 to 6 (6 is the highest score) based on the following scoring guide.

SCORE OF 6
An essay in this category demonstrates clear and consistent mastery, although it may have a few minor errors. A typical essay

effectively and insightfully develops a point of view on the issue and demonstrates outstanding critical thinking, using clearly appropriate examples, reasons, and other evidence to support its position
is well organized and clearly focused, demonstrating clear coherence and smooth progression of ideas
exhibits skillful use of language, using a varied, accurate, and apt vocabulary
demonstrates meaningful variety in sentence structure
is free of most errors in grammar, usage, and mechanics

SCORE OF 5
An essay in this category demonstrates reasonably consistent mastery, although it will have occasional errors or lapses in quality. A typical essay

effectively develops a point of view on the issue and demonstrates strong critical thinking, generally using appropriate examples, reasons, and other evidence to support its position
is well organized and focused, demonstrating coherence and progression of ideas
exhibits facility in the use of language, using appropriate vocabulary
demonstrates variety in sentence structure
is generally free of most errors in grammar, usage, and mechanics

SCORE OF 4
An essay in this category demonstrates adequate mastery, although it will have lapses in quality. A typical essay

develops a point of view on the issue and demonstrates competent critical thinking, using adequate examples, reasons, and other evidence to support its position
is generally organized and focused, demonstrating some coherence and progression of ideas
exhibits adequate but inconsistent facility in the use of language, using generally appropriate vocabulary
demonstrates some variety in sentence structure
has some errors in grammar, usage, and mechanics

SCORE OF 3
An essay in this category demonstrates developing mastery, and is marked by ONE OR MORE of the following weaknesses:

develops a point of view on the issue, demonstrating some critical thinking, but may do so inconsistently or use inadequate examples, reasons, or other evidence to support its position
is limited in its organization or focus, or may demonstrate some lapses in coherence or progression of ideas
displays developing facility in the use of language, but sometimes uses weak vocabulary or inappropriate word choice
lacks variety or demonstrates problems in sentence structure
contains an accumulation of errors in grammar, usage, and mechanics

SCORE OF 2
An essay in this category demonstrates little mastery, and is flawed by ONE OR MORE of the following weaknesses:

develops a point of view on the issue that is vague or seriously limited, and demonstrates weak critical thinking, providing inappropriate or insufficient examples, reasons, or other evidence to support its position
is poorly organized and/or focused, or demonstrates serious problems with coherence or progression of ideas
displays very little facility in the use of language, using very limited vocabulary or incorrect word choice
demonstrates frequent problems in sentence structure
contains errors in grammar, usage, and mechanics so serious that meaning is somewhat obscured

SCORE OF 1
An essay in this category demonstrates very little or no mastery, and is severely flawed by ONE OR MORE of the following weaknesses:

develops no viable point of view on the issue, or provides little or no evidence to support its position
is disorganized or unfocused, resulting in a disjointed or incoherent essay
displays fundamental errors in vocabulary
demonstrates severe flaws in sentence structure
contains pervasive errors in grammar, usage, or mechanics that persistently interfere with meaning
Essays not written on the essay assignment will receive a score of zero.

I disagree. We had to go to school from 7:15-4:15 and they worked our butts off. You just have to teach all of that touchy feely bs and not things like 1+1 is and what is the capital of Peru. cr****

Hm. Maybe it's just about where kids go to school, then, Ron.

All I know is that now there are all kinds of extra hoops through which kids need to jump in order to earn a diploma, so it's pretty widely recognized that it's harder than ever before to graduate from high school. Or at least that there are a greater number of tasks that have to be completed before you do so, like passing standardized state tests and completing Culminating Projects and such.

Totally know what you mean about getting away from teaching facts, though. I personally work really hard to make sure my kids know facts AND learn critical thinking skills because without both, we end up with citizens like this...

That's bullshit. SAT questions follow pretty clear patterns once you see enough of them. There's totally a good reason to study how to take the SAT as far as test-taking skills goes. As far as going through flash cards of vocabulary words and shit like that, well, bleh.

Also when I took them I found that I missed a few math questions because I didn't realize some of the stuff from math classes in years passed. Brushing up on the geometry crap they put in there is worth it.

guedita
01-10-2010, 06:30 PM
The SAT doesn't have analogies anymore, either, so vocab is not even very important. Honestly the reading section of the test now is so fucking easy if you have any sort of reading comprehension and knowledge of grammar.

studying is indeed pointless, but preparing is very helpful. especially if you have no idea what the format of the test is like. my only SAT advice would be that on the essay portion they are not looking for a well written/developed argument, it isnt like AP essays or any other essay youve written in school. its all about name dropping books, if you can work othello or the scarlet letter in there youre golden.

I worked for Pearson and scored the SAT essays the first couple of years they were implemented and that's definitely not the case.

Fontaine's point is also true of AP Lit and Language, both of which I scored for a few years. There's a strict scoring guide, and all the readers are trained/calibrated at the beginning, and then recalibrated periodically during the scoring sessions. I read a lot of essays that crammed in all the canonical literature they could, but couldn't formulate an argument, analyze rhetoric, or defend an interpretation to save their lives.

No analogies? So what the fuck is it besides the reading comprehension questions and the essay? I was so, so pissed when they put the essay in.

That, basic grammar like identifying an error in a sentence, and then there are some fill in the blank vocab questions, which are obviously loads easier than analogies.

Service Level Management provides for continual identification, monitoring and review of the levels of IT services specified in the service level agreements (SLAs). Service Level Management ensures that arrangements are in place with internal IT Support-Providers and external suppliers in the form of Operational Level Agreements (OLAs) and Underpinning Contracts (UCs).

well i have never been an SAT or an AP grader but im pretty fucking positive the quality/mastery that the graders are looking for on an AP exam is VASTLY different than for the SAT.

the first time i took the test i wrote a well put together, coherent, and rather complex analysis of whatever the fuck bullshit the prompt was asking for and received a fairly low grade for the writing portion. i took it again and wrote absolute drivel about the crucible and got an excellent grade.

all i was trying to bring to light is that SAT essays are looking for a different style of writing than other essay format tests, if you are not aware of this you will not score as well as you could. i wasnt trying to indicate if you shit on a piece of paper you will get into harvard, SATS ARE SERIOUS BUSINESS FOLKS.
