http://www.inthemix.com.au/news/intl/45075/Technics_is_dead

The DJing community and the greater dance music scene mourns the loss of a clubbing staple today. No, Steve Aoki hasn’t hung up his record bag, but rather news has emerged that iconic turntable manufacturers Technics will be stopping production on their universally loved Technics 1200s and Technics 1210s.

In a statement re-posted on dance board Global Hardstyle, the company behind the production of the Technics turntables Panasonic announced that they would cease the manufacture of Tehcnics turntables in February next year, citing an increasing decline in sales as the motivation behind the line’s demise.

The Australian arm of Panasonic issued a similar statement today, expressing their disappointment that the brand’s 35 years-and-running legacy was to be put to bed.

“It is a sad day today but due to low sales globally in analogue turntables a decision to stop production has been made on Technics Turntables,” Panasonic spokesman Ian North explained. “For Australia this means we will receive our last shipment in March.”

With the disappearance of Technics decks now imminent it’s becoming increasingly clear that the digital juggernaut is showing no signs of slowing down. We’ve already heard from trance icon Tiesto how he’s abandoned the ‘outdated’ medium in favour and gone for the ease and accessibility of digital tune libraries. Indeed, the new (and might we just say super-sexy) CDJ-2000s from Pioneer look to be making things easier than ever before with USB stick functionality, employed just last weekend by another digital convert Sasha.

Whilst we’re sure the classic Technics turntables will live on in the hearts of many club-reverent folk out there – not to mention in more than a few purist clubs – it’s still a crushing blow to lose the decks, and if nobody minds, we’ll be bringing beer o’clock around early this Friday afternoon.

Don't be an ass. I knew they wouldn't but we don't have any gloves that would and some protection is better than none.

How come the Sodium Hydroxide wasn't in a glass bottle?

How strong of lye was it (molarity)?

Because it was recommended to store in one of those Nalgene things because it would damage the bottle. I think perhaps they had a bit shorter time span in mind. Also it was 10 N which is the same thing as 10 M for NaOH. It still itches.

No way would you EVER want to put any kind of acid on your skin to neutralize a base. It doesn't matter if it's just vinegar - the reaction would generate a lot of heat and on top of chemical burns you'd get regular burns.

Exothermic heat...

Edit: That's weird I did a titration of an acid yesterday and no heat was given off but I used H2C2O4-2H2O + NaOH = Na2C2O4-2H2O + 2H2O
Basically I had solid acid (H2C2O4-2H2O) mixed with water and neutralized the acid with NaOH, and was left with salt and water with no heat...

People over here who were getting dismayed at yet another x factor/pop idol karaoke song being at the top spot have started a facebook group to get everyone to buy the RATM track during xmas week. It currently has 231,000 members, and is rising by around 50k a day.

At this rate there will be around 600,000 members by the time we hit the xmas sales week (13th Dec). It's going to be close, as last years x factor winner (Alexandra Burke) notched up 576,000 sales of her shite cover version of Hallelujah in a week.

BOISE, Idaho - It's become an annual winter tale: A young boy gets his tongue stuck to a metal pole, perhaps as the result of a dare.

This year, the scene straight out of the movie "A Christmas Story" unfolded Tuesday morning in Boise with a boy of about 10.

Boise firefighters used a glass of warm water to free the unidentified boy from the metal fence pole.

Fire Capt. Bill Tinsley says the boy's tongue was bleeding a little, but he was OK and allowed to continue walking to school. Firefighters estimate the boy was 10 years old.

Rescue workers responded after a woman driving by saw the boy and called 911.

Last year, the unlucky boy was a 10-year-old from Hammond, Ind., especially apt, since the 1983 movie is set in a fictional city based on Hammond.

I just saw the wildest thing. A weather person was up what looked like 3 stories. He had a cup of boiling water. He threw the water out over the ledge, some of it turned into a cloud, and the rest froze and turned to ice pellets before it hit the ground. Yikes. -16 wind chill here now. cr****

That's just rediculous, Ron! I can't even imagine that type of cold, but then to be fair, I'm sure a lot of people here don't understand why we live in 120* in the summer.

Is this where we post stuff that no thread should ever be made for? Because--DURING RUSH HOUR-- on the bus home tonight a woman got on board holding bags of groceries and a LIVE CHICKEN by the feet. At first, I thought the chicken was dead, and I was disgusted. Then, the bus lurched and she fell over, and the chicken nearly touched me. I got up in a panic and saw its head move and its feathers ruffle.

No, that thread would be titled, BROKENDOLL, no doubt in my mind! LOL
But, you're close enough. It's actually the thread where you want to post something that's vital and important at the moment, but only to yourself. It's probably something that noone else would think to post, or so you think that anyway, so you risk it and share your crucial imformation. That's when it becomes a free for all. It could turn out to be an all day lobfest of comments, and jokes, or it could become a slugfest for two. You never know. I believe your fear of chickens on buses should be shared...You never know when you'll be surrounded by many one day...

I am a foodie but I saw something last night that just seemed wrong. On Iron Chef they cooked giant lobsters. They said it takes 30 years for them to get that big. Each chef used 4. So it took 240 years of growth and life to make a dinner for 4 people to judge on an hour long TV show. The worst part was a chef cut one in half only to use it for decoration. BTW it said they each cost over $400 but that is besides the point. cr****

Son of a bitch:

Morrissey may have canceled a show in Indio, California on Saturday due to vocal strain, but last night, he made it to "Lopez Tonight", comedian George Lopez's new talk show, to perform a song.

Watch the ever-dapper Moz and his band perform "Don't Make Fun of Daddy's Voice", from the new compilation Swords, below:

Everyone makes mistakes, Paul McCartney included. The former Beatle recently admitted that marrying Heather Mills is one of the biggest errors of his life. "I suppose it has to be a prime contender," McCartney told Q Magazine. "But I don't wanna down anyone."

Italian Prime Minister, you got knocked the fuck out!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091213/ap_on_re_eu/eu_italy_berlusconi

ROME – Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi was punched in the face at the end of a rally in Milan on Sunday, new reports said. The attack occurred as the 73-year-old Berlusconi was signing autographs near his car, state TV said. TV showed the stunned leader with blood under his nose and on his mouth as he was lifted to his feet by aides.
Berlusconi was hustled into the back of a car by the aides, but he immediately got out, apparently in an effort to show he was not badly injured. After looking out into the crowd, the aides pulled the leader back into the vehicle.
Sky TG24 TV said Berlusconi was taken to a Milan hospital to be treated.
News reports said a man, in his 30s or early 40s, was immediately detained as the suspected assailant and taken to police headquarters.
Witnesses told reporters the assailant appeared to have punched Berlusconi while holding a metal object in his fist.
A spokesman for Berlusconi said he didn't immediately have any information about the incident, which happened after the premier delivered a long, rousing speech to his conservative supporters Sunday evening.
