So a while ago my driver's license and insurance card vanished out of my wallet. I assumed that at some point I got drunk, accidentally pulled them out when I was pulling out my credit card, and lost them that way. This morning on the bus I found out that my university ID/bus pass was missing from my wallet. I had it last night on the bus home, in my wallet, and DID NOT TAKE MY WALLET OUT AFTER THAT AT ALL. It is extremely mysterious. God, stop taking my cards. It's not amusing.

It's really irritating especially because when you get a replacement bus pass they charge you an additional $40/quarter for every quarter it's valid. I never did find my driver's license or insurance card, so I have low hopes for finding this damn pass. It's bullshit.

But that's the thing. Nothing else in my wallet is missing. I never take the bus pass out of my wallet because my wallet is clear vinyl and I just flash the wallet with the pass. There is like NO POSSIBLE WAY I lost it anywhere but my bag, which I already emptied out 6 times and checked every crevice and under the bottom lining and everything.

My son has a friend who's parents have completely bailed. The kid is 16 and has been at my house now for over 2 weeks because his mom is in some motel downtown being a meth whore and his dad has disappeared. I feel really bad for the kid and have been letting him stay with me for the time being because I hate the idea of turning him over to the state. For the most part he is a pretty good kid, and even helps out around the house as payment for letting him stay.

Last night I actually got to spend some time with my new DVR since I moved. I was trying to figure out all the functions on the remote and was just going through all the different menu functions. I find a place that says "purchases" and click on it. Hmmm apparently at some point during the day while I was working and my son was in school he was watching Big Butted Sluts and some other pay per view porn movie at $10.99 each.

Seriously? Who does that?

There's a reason why. Most of the population just sees them as a menace and doesn't try to help them rehabilitate. Year after year, Congress votes down chupacabra related legislation, and year after year the chupacabra community gets more and more desperate. Maybe you should volunteer at a chupacabra shelter instead of always whining about your disfigured livestock.

Soul Discharge is absolutely right.

We've an entire family of chupacabras - four grown siblings - that are regular customers at my night job. We openly greet them..."Hey, Chupacabras, how're ya doin'?" They enjoy our good natured ribbing and less than subtle remarks about their appearances because in an intolerant world, they appreciate our tolerance and good humor. We understand that even chupacabras need a goat-free meal and a warm and inviting place to come home to sometimes.

I have never eaten meatloaf (the food or man) and I just don't have any desire to try. a loaf of meat just does not sound appetizing.

I eat hamburger meat usually broken up on tacos or whatever, or I will make a hamburger patty but make it really thin. The whole big huge patty thing grosses me out as well. I also don't like meatballs. There is nothing appetizing about a big ball of fried meat in my mind.

So I'm in the hospital.

For about five days or so my left arm has been hurting for no reason I could figure out. I thought maybe I just strained it or slept on it wrong or something, but then yesterday I woke up and did a side-by-side comparison of my left and right arm in the mirror and realized that Ol Lefty was almost twice the size of Right. Like Freddy Rodriguez in Lady In The Water, for those of you who have seen it. And there was a scattering of black and blue bruises around my shoulder socket even though I haven't done anything remotely capable of physically injuring myself for quite a while. My whole arm was red, hot to the touch, swollen, and hurt like a motherfucker from my shoulder all the way to my fingertips.

Went to a GP and the dumb bitch looked at it, said she thought it was probably either bursitis or a fracture and recommend that I go to the hospital for x-rays and come back with the results. I decided to go ahead to the hospital but definitely not come back. Sadly, since I'm just barely back in NJ and have little money and no health insurance yet I needed to enlist my mother's help in the endeavor, which naturally turned out to be more trouble than it was worth. I just wanted to go to the ER and sign up for charity care and wait however long I had to, instead she had some other cockamamie scheme to get the x-rays that we ended up not even needing anyway and then going to the ER after all.

Cutting to the chase, an ultrasound turned out a rather large blood clot in my chest/shoulder area. It's somewhat confounded the staff here as a 26 year old who hasn't experienced any trauma to the area really isn't supposed to get blood clots. So I have to stay admitted for a couple days while they pump me full of blood thinners. Hopefully the specialists they're calling in will determine that this is just a fluke and not something I need to keep taking meds for the rest of my life. Being on blood thinners worries me--with a mouth like mine, you can't afford to bleed too easily.

Apparently you can get blood clots in your legs from sitting in one position too long (like on a long flight) so I guess it makes sense to think that holding your arm in one position for a good part of a week could cause the same thing.

(yes, I know I am old)

TL, DR warning, but -

It's really hard to see the point of Twitter until you've been using it for a while. There's a few days of "What. What the fuck." and then there's a total "AHA!" moment, and the whole thing clicks, and it's wonderful.

You - and celebrities, and strangers, and friends - post short little updates of what you're doing and what you're thinking. Things you found funny, things you think are important, weird shit you just saw on the street and so on. Anything you'd like to invite a conversation about.

In return, you "follow" the updates of a few dozen people, maybe more. I follow 261 people. This is the key bit - follow as many people as you can think of when you start out. Anybody and everybody, people you know, people you don't, famous people, people who are recommended to you, people you pick at random, anybody.

You can weed out the boring twats later, but the important thing at first is just to build up enough people to have a constant feed of posts. It's not about the individual Tweeters, it's more about seeing what's going on in a few dozen people's lives right this second. If you only follow people you know, you're missing out on the really exciting part. You follow people you know - through them, you find other people worth following, and so on and so on, until you build up a whole network of friendly chattering little minds to hand at all times.

That's the real magic of it. You create an expanding network of people worth talking to, to hand at all times. Your own pet hivemind. You have a window into dozens of stranger's minds at a glance, and they look back at you, it's an idea I find endlessly exciting and I hope it's the shape of technology to come.

Now, the shortness of the messages seems like a weakness, but it's really the idea's strength. The message brevity keeps conversations moving and makes trolling pointless. You have to make your messages count, and you have to make yourself worth following - If you're boring, people will just unfollow you. It's that simple. That's no big deal either, people follow and unfollow all the time. It's barely noticeable, and there's no pressure to stick with somebody if they're just posing inane bullshit about their shopping lists. You pick who you want to hear from.

Because you only see updates from the people you choose to follow, it's nigh on impossible to abuse the system for commercial purposes. And because the update feed is constantly moving, you can dip in and out of it any time without feeling like you're missing out.

Trending Topics are a big part of that too - Twitter provides a dynamic, updating list of the top ten most discussed words and phrases. Click on them, and you can see what everybody's been saying. so you can jump in and out of the conversations at your leisure. It's amazing to watch a subject climb up the list, to see it spread from one pocket of people to another, to cross the Atlantic. Especially if it's a developing news story, seeing new information and new opinions unfold, even stupid misguided ones, in real time. Whack a word into the search engine - say "Coachella", and there you have a snapshot of dozens of comments and conversations on the subject from all over the world from a huge range of personalities and backgrounds, people just like you, and people who couldn't be more different, it's all in there.

Just this Tuesday actually, I ( And this is me here, thanks for asking (http://twitter.com/JennyDecimal) ) went for drinks with two people - Maria (http://twitter.com/Twistedlilkitty)and Patrick (http://twitter.com/TLHobo), go follow them - that I'd never met before and never would have met otherwise. I'd never had any communication at all with them that took more than 140 characters until then, and I had a fucking riot. Witty fuckers that live in the same city as I do, laugh at the same stuff as me, and have a supply of funny interesting things to say that I can't possibly match; but I'd never have had any contact with them whatsoever in a Twitterless universe. I'd recommend it to anybody and I hope to do it a lot more in future.

I love Twitter. I find it ceaselessly thrilling and just a little bit awesome to watch several thousand people, from all over the world, take part in all their big conversations and little conversations alike.

The other was a far more business-like thing, mainly for posting one line bulletin updates or links, I checked in on it regularly to answer queries and post as necessary, but I wasn't watching it 24 hours a day. Some people use one account as "their" account, for instance, and then another one to announce videos they've uploaded, as an example.

That's another great thing about it, it requires damn all personal information so you can have a load of accounts for different purposes, or personas if that's how you roll. It's perfectly acceptable to have any number of accounts under different names if you so wish, and it works really well if you're organised about it. I'd recommend using different passwords on your different accounts so that you can't accidentally log in and post something weird in the wrong account.

ok do we have any electricians around here? I have a question:

My landlord sent a handyman to check out my electricity, they basically said the entire downstairs is on one breaker and the upstairs is on another, all running off of one line or some shit. So that if I run the microwave, tv and cable at the same time it flips the downstairs breaker and if I run the hair dryer and tv/cable at the same time I flip the upstairs breaker. They said the only way to fix it is rewire the entire house which they aren't willing to do. My concern is that this might be some sort of fire hazard. If it isn't then I don't care that much, I can retrain myself to turn off the tv when I blow dry my hair, I just don't want to burn up some night and I have never run into this before so I don't know if this is at all normal for an older place. I have lived in newer houses for the past 10 years and have never lost power for running too many things.

MS Oasis of the Seas is a cruise ship in the fleet of Royal Caribbean International. The first of her class, she is expected to be joined by her sister ship Allure of the Seas in November 2010.[9] Both vessels are expected to cruise the Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in the United States.[10]

The ship replaces the Freedom-class cruise ships (also owned by Royal Caribbean) as the world's largest passenger vessel.[11]

[edit] History
The vessel was ordered in February 2006 and designed under the name "Project Genesis". Her keel was laid down on 12 November 2007 at STX Europe (formerly Aker Yards) in Turku, Finland. The company announced that full funding for Oasis of the Seas was secured on 15 April 2009.[12]

The name Oasis of the Seas resulted from a competition held in May 2008.[13]

The ship was completed and turned over to Royal Caribbean on 28 October 2009. Two days later, she departed Finland for the United States. While exiting the Baltic Sea, the vessel passed underneath the Great Belt Fixed Link in Denmark on 1 November 2009. The bridge has a clearance of 65 m (213 ft) above the water; Oasis normally has an air draft of 72 m (236 ft). The passage under the bridge was possible due to retraction of the telescoping funnels, and an additional 30 cm (12 in) was gained by the squat effect whereby vessels travelling at speed in a shallow channel will be drawn deeper into the water.[14][15] Approaching the bridge at 20 knots (37 km/h; 23 mph), the ship passed under it with less than 2 feet (60 cm) of clearance.[16]

Proceeding through the English Channel, Oasis stopped briefly in the Solent to disembark 300 shipyard workers who were onboard doing finishing work,[17] then left on the way to her intended home port of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.[18] The ship arrived there on 13 November 2009, where tropical plants will be installed prior to some introductory trips and her maiden voyage on 5 December 2009.[16]

[edit] Technical details
Oasis measures 225,282 gross tons,[1] almost half again as large as the runners-up, the vessels of the Freedom class, and 4.8 times larger than Titanic, of 46,329 gross register tons.[19] To displace the volume of water necessary for the ship to float, and to keep the ship stable without increasing the draft excessively, the designers created a wide hull. About 30 feet (9 m) of the ship sits beneath the water, a small percentage of the ship's overall height. Wide, shallow ships such as this tend to be "snappy", meaning that they can snap back upright after a wave has passed, which can potentially be uncomfortable.[19]

The ship's power comes from six marine diesel engines, three Wärtsilä 16-cylinder common rail diesels producing 18,860 kilowatts (25,290 hp) each, and three similar 12-cylinder engines each producing 13,860 kilowatts (18,590 hp).[7][20] The total output of these prime movers, some 97,020 kilowatts (130,110 hp), is converted to electricity, used in hotel power for operation of the lights, elevators, electronics, galleys, water treatment plant, and all of the other systems used on the operation of the vessel, as well as propulsion. Propulsion is not provided by screws on the end of long shafts piercing the hull, as on most prior ships, but by three, 20,000 kilowatts (26,800 hp) "Azipods", Asea Brown Boveri's brand of azimuth thrusters. These pods, suspended under the stern, each contain an electric motor driving a 20-foot (6 m) propeller.[7] As they are rotatable, no rudders are needed to steer the ship. Docking is assisted by four 5,500 kilowatts (7,380 hp) bow thrusters in tunnels.[20]

[edit] Amenities
Oasis of the Seas will offer passengers features such as two-story loft suites and luxury suites measuring 1,600 sq ft (150 m2) with balconies overlooking the sea or promenades. The ship features a zip-line, a casino,[21] a mini-golf course, four swimming pools, volleyball and basketball courts, theme parks and nurseries for children.[16]

[edit] Neighborhoods
Onboard recreational, athletic, and entertainment activities are organized into the seven themed neighborhoods below,[22][23] a concept which bears resemblance to theme park planning.[9]

Central Park features boutiques, restaurants and bars, including access to the Rising Tide bar,[9] which can be raised or lowered to three separate levels.[16][21] It will house the first living park at sea with over 12,000 plants and 56 trees.[16][24]
The Pool and Sports Zone features a sloped-entry beach pool and two surf simulators.[9]
Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center features a spa for teens.[9]
Boardwalk features a handcrafted carousel,[9][11] restaurants, bars, shops, two rock-climbing walls, and a tattoo parlor.[7] Its outdoor 750-seat[16] AquaTheatre amphitheater hosts the ship's largest freshwater pool.[11]
Royal Promenade features restaurants and shops and is viewable from a mezzanine.[7][9]
Youth Zone features a science lab and computer gaming.[24]

NEW DELHI - Condoms designed to meet international size specifications are too big for many Indian men as their penises fall short of what manufacturers had anticipated, an Indian study has found.

The Indian Council of Medical Research, a leading state-run center, said its initial findings from a two-year study showed 60 percent of men in the financial capital Mumbai had penises about 1 inch shorter than those condoms catered for.

For a further 30 percent, the difference was at least 2 inches. A poor fit meant the prophylactics often didn't do the job they were bought for, and led to some tearing or slipping off during use.

"One of the reasons for a failure of up to 20 percent (of condoms) is the association of the size of the condom to the erect penis," the council's Dr. Chander Puri told Reuters, adding another reason was couples often put them on in a hurry.

Puri said many men in India, which has the world's highest HIV positive caseload, were too shy to ask for condoms.

"We need more vending machines for condoms of different sizes so people can pick a condom with confidence that is suited to their needs," he said.

The Times of India reported the ICMR survey had studied 1,400 men between 18-50 years of age in cities like Mumbai and New Delhi as well as in rural areas in a report. It entitled its story "Indian men don't measure up."

this story is apparently several years old but I just read about it in Super Freakonomics (the sequel to Freakonomics) this weekend.

Loca, that's probably one of my biggest fears...electrical fires that happen to start where you can't see them. Now, I know here in California, you can have the electric company come out and test things...appliances, wiring, etc. It's a service mainly to see how much power shit is using, but also as a safety deal. You mentioned trhat this place is older. Keep in mind that say, 20 years ago, people didn't have cable, computers, TV's and every other little electrical gadget so of course places weren't wired for it. Have you tried shifting things around? My place at the polo club was really small. (1 room studio and bath.) The AC and microwave were plugged into the same outlet and I wasn't able to run both at once. But, once I moved the micro to another outlet afew feet over, problem solved. I would think the upstairs/downstairs thing would take care of that, but you mentioned them both going into the same mainline...That part does sound odd. For your own peace of mind, call and see about having the electric company come out and check it. I'm pretty sure it's a free service.

If you have two panels then there should be no problem with shit tripping the breakers. Unless you are using a shit load of growing lamps while running all of your appliances at the same time I cant see how you are tripping 200-amp mains.

Age does make a difference because a house built today you get a either a 150 or 200 amp panel while a house built 40 years ago probably got a 100 amp panel. Which at the time was sufficient because people didn't have as many electrical stuff running then as they do now.

Also do what brokendoll said and more your appliances to different outlets. You may just have to much stuff on a single circuit.

Cruises can be a fun family vacation with kids. You have this self-contained environment and they meet other kids their age and run around the ship and you don't have to worry about it so much. Also you go these different places and don't have to pack and unpack each time and there are really fun activities to do.

But they can be crowded and even on an upscale ship you can get the sense they're trying to wring every penny possible out of you every single minute. And you're stuck with a bunch of people, approximately 67% of whom are midwestern republican fucktards, and those people might occasionally try to make conversation with you.

In my experience a smaller ship is better than a bigger one so why anyone would be attracted to that huge floating subdivision is beyond me.

That's all I ever think whenever I see a cruise ship - they're just giant, floating incubators of pestilence and disease. Not to mention generators of homicidal rage. If typhoid, legionnaire's disease, or rikki-tikki-tavi (as my husband refers to any unknown tropical disease) doesn't get you, then your spouse/partner surely will, by strangling you in the shower or tossing you overboard. I am pretty sure that simply having too many things on one circuit thus casuing breakers to flip is not a hazard. The question though, woiuld be how old and/or good the wires still are. If there are frayed wires there might be a problem, but even then i'm not sure

i live in a converted back house where my entire house is on ONE breaker and when i first moved in it even shared the breaker with the air conditioner in the main house. The first summer I lived there we were flipping the breaker all the time! there wasn't ever concern with fire hazards though

after my grandmother died she left a good chunk of money so the family could take a cruise together. there were probably ~20 of us that went. in the back of the boat they have giant family suites that us, the 5 cousins, stayed in. there were 2 bedrooms, a living room, and a huge wraparound deck on the stern. we partied so damn hard that week, one night even having the ships comedian, magician, and other entertainers hanging out with us, probably a good 40 people in the room...we all stayed up to watch the sunrise, it was a good night. this was before 9/11, too, so i taped a ton of weed inside the waistband of my boxers on the flight over to florida...made us the "hit" of the ship. i partied too hard the night before the first port of call, though, and spent the entire day in bed while everyone else enjoyed the island, whoops.

I think RVs clearly have their purposes. While I'm sure cruises are great if your intention was to go on a cruise. You know you'll be on the ocean. You know it's like a metroplolis in itself and you'll have everything from tennis courts to swimming pools at your convenience. But, as far as going from country to country, unless you've got the time in between, I'd rather just get there. I can swim and play tennis at home.

Same with RVers...If they want to drag the livingroom along for a leisurely trek to another place, fine. But to just go from point A to point B? Wouldn't it be cheaper to just get a room than to drop $200,000. Seems like a lot of back and forth before you break even.

In my fantasy life where I am King and Supreme Ruler of America, RVs are illegal. Not because I find an RV vacation unappealing (which I do), but because they are fucking disasters on the road. A quintessential Yellowstone experience is doing 30 mph in a 50 mph zone in a long line of traffic behind a retiree from Omaha in an oversized Winnebago.

Don't forget the random acts of stopping without letting those behind them know they want to catch a quick photo. And those retirees aren't stupid...They also used to drive small compact vehicles when they were younger...the older they get, you'll notice the bigger and heavier their transportation will be. Gas saver to Lincoln Continentals to Winnabago. You don't think that 30' bus isn't gonna give the 1/2 blind a sense of security? They drive 'em like "Bonzai! I'll turn left! Shazam! A quick right!" And when they finally pak the damn thing, it takes forever to get out the door with the damned walker and shit in the way!

Teardrop Trailer. The greatest invention ever. Open the back hatch and you've got a galley area for your Coleman stove and your cooler and all your foodstuff/utensils. Sleeping area in the front for two and a few small shelves/cupboards for storage.

If there is ever a teardrop gathering in your area, go and check it out. We went to one at Perris Lake last year; all the owners get together and display them. It's fun to see how they trick them all out or how beautifully vintage trailers have been restored.

We've set up camp innumerable times over the years. It would be great to just roll up with your camp, ready to go.

Yeah, we've checked those out. They are cool, but the downside is that you have to haul your toys/gear out at night when you want to use them. (Well, we would 'cause it would be bikes and shit.) If you want to go small Airstream, check out the Bambi. Beautiful. But like all Airsteams, so very expensive.

I like the teardrops; it' s more like having a hard-sided tent. And it's small and lightweight.

And, there it is folks! Just the sight of that mini airstream emptied my tent and now has me re-thinking this whole camping thing!
Now....how much for that silver bullet?

Yeah, there are some models from new manufacturers that have all the bells and whistles.

Yeah the airstream brand is overpriced but seem really worth it. The bambi might be a little bigger than what I was look for. The teardrops seem like a really cool option and I need to do some further research.

Thank you for this.

I would love to find something to take to the ski resorts. Its either this or go in with a huge group on a ski season home rental, but I enjoy my privacy.

And here are the other two of my 3 favorite new manufacturers:

Hunter is the least expensive of the three. Check out Craigslist, too.

Wow, I just went to the airstream site.Naturally, they won't list prices, but some of the bigger ones I'm guessing, run as much as a condo! I like the two that have been posted, but some on the site don't look adaptable to say, coming in from fishing or skiing, or motorcycle riding...

I get car sick if I don't sit in the front seat and watch the road. I get boat sick on anything smaller than a cruise ship which I really don't have any desire to be on. My idea of a vacation is going to the airport, downing a couple overpriced drinks in the airport bar while waiting for my flight to board, getting on the plane and downing another drink or two while flying to my destination, getting there in a fraction of the time it would take if I were to drive or float and enjoying the destination that I chose. I can't stand to be in a car for more then 6 hours at a time so the only road trips I even consider anymore are to LA or Vegas, anything further than that, no chance. And I have even started to think that those are too far. The ride there is always fun and exciting but driving back is always way too tiring.

On the whole vacations topic. Driving on a vacation is the only way to go with few exceptions imo. Unless you do the same route over and over again, there is always something fun and interesting to see. It's half the fun. cr****

This post for some reason made me think of the Pinky & The Brain cartoons for some reason.

Gee, Brain, what do you want to do tonight?
The same thing we do every night, Pinky - try to take over the world!
