I know, thank god. I thanked them profusely.

The service rep in the fraud dept said she's so paranoid, she won't even use her debit card anymore, only cash. She says people watch you at gas stations and fast food joints to get your info. I try to be very careful - I don't know what more I could have done. Unless the info was had by some other means, which may be even scarier.

I always use my debit card as a credit card at gas stations so I type out my zip code instead of my PIN code. Dunno if that helps anything though; I just don't want to pay the debit card fee.

Nope.

Also, we never pulled out cash from an ATM. Used the card for gas, lodging, groceries, Subway sandwiches, and National Park entry.

Yeah, I'm gonna check my credit report right now.

Okay, I'm kind of freaked out right now. I just came home to a message from my bank to contact the fraud department. I did, and it appears someone tried to use my debit card number to withdraw over $1600 from my checking account (at 2am last night) and buy $75 of gas at a Shell station this morning. Thankfully, the bank declined them all because they were at suspicious locations. We just recently came back from vacation and I used my debit card everywhere we went, so the info could have been gathered in any number of places. Scary!
That's a good bank you have watching over you. Unfortunately you used the card somewhere that doesn't watch over their employees. You should never let the card out of your sight! Most times, that's easy, but what about when you go out to eat and they drop the bill? Most put their card in there and hand it back and the server goes to run it somewhere else, returning to give you your card. Unbeknownst to you, they also could have copied all the numerical info, including the 3-digit code on that back. Don't ever let it out of your sight and always keep the reciept!

I had that scare this weekend when my card disappeared at EDC. While I went into the panic mode, suffacated was already calling the bank and having my card cancelled. The bank even doublechecked the total of my last known purchase in case we weren't quick enough. I'll still have the same bank account, but the card number is closed with another on the way.

The first tiume I saw his debit card, he had signed, "Please ask for ID" where you're supposed to sign your name on the back. I laughed until he explained that that way, the person has to see that it's you and not just anybody using your card. I make it a point to thank cahiers, etc when they timidly ask for ID becasue they're afraid of offending you or something. You'd be amazed at how many are relieved that you don't mind them asking...Unfortunately, the same percentage of places fail to inquire, thus all the probs with ID theft.

As I understand it, they can regrow severed limbs and have blood of molten lead.

Then again, I was at least seventeen before I really knew anybody who was not Catholic.

EDIT:

In all seriousness, I have only really ever learned of protestantism as a contrast to catholicism. The primary dogmatic difference is Transubstantiation vs. Consubstantiation, but protestantism covers a tremendous spectrum. I often wonder, if I had been raised protestant rather than catholic, would I have ended up the Godless unsaveable atheist that I am. And often, I doubt it.

If this (the bold part) is true I find it very odd and am disappointed with myself for not already knowing of the connection.

In April 1972, the Modern Lovers traveled to Los Angeles where they held two demo sessions; the first was produced by the Velvet Underground's John Cale for Warner Bros. while the second was produced by Alan Mason for A&M. The Cale sessions were later used on the band’s debut album. ...

Although on the band’s return Richman agreed to record his earlier songs, he was anxious to move in a different musical direction. He wanted to scrap all of the tracks they had recorded and start over with a mellower, more lyrical sound. The rest of the band, while not opposed to such a shift later, insisted that they record as they sounded now. However, the sessions with Cale in September 1973 also coincided with the death of their friend Gram Parsons (a former Harvard student, like Harrison and Brooks), and produced no usable recordings.[1][2]

I had a similar thing happen, only I lost it around some friends of a friend I didn't know very well. Got it back a week or two later after I had replaced everything, and of course whatever money was in there was gone. Still, it's always good to have multiple IDs. God, I've always loved this poem to little bits. William Butler Yeats doesn't always do it for me, but I love that.

It's the doom. I love doom. Particularly biblical doom. Biblical, mildly blasphemous doom.

Thanks MP, I'm debating whether I should show that to my grandfather or not... it might piss him off big time.

I'm still so furious about this stupid fucking law, and I'm furious all over again.

Few days ago I sent the big main national newspaper a letter to vent my outrage. This is how it appeared on their website:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/jill_valentine/blasphemy.jpg

This is what I actually wrote:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/jill_valentine/blasphemy2.jpg

Note the glaring, blasphemous difference.

Part of Dermot Ahern's defence of the stupid thing is that it's essentially unenforceable; he's arguing that since it's unlikely ever to be prosecuted, it won't have any practical effect on our free speech or on our media.

But it doesn't matter whether the penalties are ever enforced by the government if the media will do the job for them.

This is how it is now. I can't act surprised, I can't pretend there's no precedent or that this isn't in the nature of this country's character, but by hell I intend to be very angry and noisy about it for the forseeable future.

good question. strangely, living in PA at the time, I dont recall hearing about this.

i listen to an MMA radio show online. the guy was talking about how some fighters use songs to pump them up, but the meaning of the song just doesnt fit. went on to say sports in general do this. then he mentioned how Reagan used "Born in the USA" in a speech or something. And then came this song, "Hey man, nice shot" and he went on to say what it was really about. so i loked for it, and blammo!!! brainzzz. fucking insane video.

Me too. There was a spider blocking the door at work. I'm guessing it was about 5"-6" including legs. I was too scared to go anywhere near it, so I called over the boss's dad. He went to stomp on it but it ended up on top of his shoe. I was yelling, "it's on your shoe!". He proceeded to shake his leg and it ran up his trouser onto his back. "It's on your back!!". Someone else got it off for him, but I was freaking out for a long time after. That shit is scary.

Please don't make yourself believe that you have the capacity to speak on whether or not things make sense.

Critics have cited the language used to describe the hype cycle of Web 2.0[35] as an example of Techno-utopianist rhetoric.[36]
Critics such as Andrew Keen argue that Web 2.0 has created a cult of digital narcissism and amateurism, which undermines the notion of expertise by allowing anybody, anywhere to share (and place undue value upon) their own opinions about any subject and post any kind of content regardless of their particular talents, knowledgeability, credentials, biases or possible hidden agendas. He states that the core assumption of Web 2.0, that all opinions and user-generated content are equally valuable and relevant is misguided, and is instead "creating an endless digital forest of mediocrity: uninformed political commentary, unseemly home videos, embarrassingly amateurish music, unreadable poems, essays and novels," also stating that Wikipedia is full of "mistakes, half truths and misunderstandings".[37]

I saw him on the Colbert Report, and Andrew Keen is a bitter douche.

Andrew Keen, notorious spammer, failed Web 1.0 entrepreneur, blog-hating blogger, and luddite troll author of Cult of the Amateur, appeared on the Colbert Report last evening. It's well worth watching.

(Slightly paraphrased transcript):

Colbert: I thought the Internets was building our culture.

Keen: No, it's destroying our culture.

Colbert: I can go on the Internet and find pictures of any old art I want. That's culture, isn't it?

Keen: That's stealing our culture.

Colbert: But it's still culture. The Nazis stole culture, but it was still culture.

Keen: It's worse than that... Even the Nazis didn't put artists out of work.

Don't make this about the site it's posted on. The point is he called Web 2.0 worse than the Nazis, and made it sound like artist's jobs are worth more than millions of lives. I watched the interview myself, and while I agree with some of his points, he is still a bitter douche.

i was just saying it looks like that site is nerd/techno driven and I can see why they would think he is wacko .... i guess where i agree some on that single statement is when a 5 year old or a religious right wack can go on wiki and update say the "theory of evolution" with tripe or lies, that sucks cuz i trust wiki a lot .... cr****

So what do you think of this and I think it is kind of funny but then it wasn’t me:
The wife and mother of two of the people arrested in NC for attempting a terrorist attack told this story: The FBI or Homeland sent someone she knew to her door, he was covered with fake blood … he said her husband and son had been sideswiped by a 18 wheeler and were in critical condition at the hospital …. She rushes to the hospital and since there was nobody at home that could give a “right to refuse” on a search warrant, they broke into the home and searched it …. In the end, the two had not been in an accident at all, were in jail arrested, and then they arrested her …. Sort of funny
And sneaky, way out of bounds and no excuse for those tactics or ???? cr****
