It's nice to see my county leads the nation in something;

CDC: Washoe County tops nation in heavy drinking (http://www.rgj.com/article/20090106/NEWS18/90106054&OAS_sitepage=news.rgj.com%2Fbreakingnews)

Washoe County has the highest rate of heavy drinkers in the nation, according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention “behavioral/risk factor” ranking of metropolitan areas.

That means, for percentage of population, that more men in the area imbibe more than two alcoholic drinks a day and more women ingest more than one drink per day than in other U.S. metro areas.

The federal report covers major U.S. metropolitan areas and is based on telephone questionnaires. Since 2002, the county has consistently ranked high in the heavy drinking category.

State and local health officials said it’s no surprise that Nevada, with its 24-hour lifestyle, scores high in bad habits.

But patrons at Ryan’s Saloon in Reno said Tuesday they were puzzled that Washoe beat out Clark County/Las Vegas and other cities where booze also runs freely.

“I’m skeptical about that, I’d have to question that,” said Ron Hizen, who was having a beer with lunch at Ryan’s. “We’ve got drinkers in Reno, every city has them. But I don’t think we’d be outstanding.”

Noah Manfredi, having a soda with his lunch, ordered a shot of whiskey to celebrate Reno’s No. 1 status.

“Oh hell yeah, I’m down with that,” he said. “In Vegas, the tourists drink to have fun. Here, the locals drink to drink.”........

I'm so proud.

which one was bruno? sorry to hear about your loss...

Thanks marooko and Mr. Nipples.

Bruno and Kiki.
This is how Bruno and his sister would spend their days. Just hanging out.

BD adopted Bruno 6 years ago. He was already 8 yrs old.

Ya know they say that everything happens for a reason....
Bruno and BD is a perfect example of this.
I have never seen a dog or human that was as loyal or faithful as Bruno.
Bruno watched out over Beverly. He protected her like his life depended on it.
Bruno had an almost "human" like quality about him.
The man of the house. A perfect gentleman. He showed more dignity and had more integrity than most people I know.

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t52/Suffacated/US/bruno.jpghttp://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t52/Suffacated/US/kiki.jpghttp://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t52/Suffacated/US/IMGP0855.jpghttp://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t52/Suffacated/US/scan0001-1.jpghttp://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t52/Suffacated/US/Nov08_0005.jpg

Beverly adopted (rescued) Bruno from what may have been a very abusive place.
Bruno has traveled all over the world in the Polo circuit with his previous owners. This is not always in a dogs best interest.
So .....6 years ago Bruno needed a home.
Since Bruno had a few "issues", no body else wanted him.
BD just happened to be at the right place at the right time since she worked at the Polo club.
Having a heart of gold, Beverly adopted Bruno and gave him a home when he needed it the most.
This happened at at time when BD was in a bad place herself with the loss of her mother.
The way I see it, Bruno is the reason Beverly is still here today and Beverly is the reason Bruno lived a good life.
BD should be telling this story.
Believe me, It's a good one.

The pic below was taken Monday morning.
Beverly never left his side.
She stayed with Bruno right up to the very end.

Aw man.... this hurts....
Its so quiet around here now.

This guy in my office keeps on bringing his toddler to work and it is distracting and makes it difficult to get work accomplished because you can hear her all the way down the hall. This would be moderately more acceptable if he was (a) excellent at what he did, and (b) timely in meeting deadlines when I assign him projects, but he is neither of these things. I don't want to be the bad guy who tells him it's a problem, but dude IT'S A FREAKING PROBLEM.

Reader Chriscbatson says:
"One time I went to FYE just outside of Baltimore, Md. When I walked in there was a 16- year-old kid behind the counter wearing a hat that said, 'F--- You.' I asked him if they had any of the older 'Hootie and Blowfish' CDs still in stock. He asked me if I was, 'Some sort of *** or something.' 100 percent true story. Needless to say, I was a bit shocked."

porn watching by state, no surprise:

"Americans may paint themselves in increasingly bright shades of red and blue, but new research finds one thing that varies little across the nation: the liking for online pornography.

A new nationwide study (pdf) of anonymised credit-card receipts from a major online adult entertainment provider finds little variation in consumption between states. "When it comes to adult entertainment, it seems people are more the same than different," says Benjamin Edelman at Harvard Business School.

However, there are some trends to be seen in the data. Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds. "Some of the people who are most outraged turn out to be consumers of the very things they claimed to be outraged by," Edelman says.

The biggest consumer, Utah, averaged 5.47 adult content subscriptions per 1000 home broadband users; Montana bought the least with 1.92 per 1000. And again, eight of the top 10 pornography consuming states gave their electoral votes to John McCain in last year's presidential election--Florida and Hawaii were the exceptions. While six out of the lowest 10 favoured Barack Obama.

Churchgoers bought less online porn on Sundays--a 1% increase in a postal code's religious attendance was associated with a 0.1% drop in subscriptions that day. Not to worry, though: expenditures on other days of the week brought churchgoers in line with the rest of the country."

METALLICA's LARS ULRICH: I Downloaded 'Death Magnetic' Illegally - Mar. 3, 2009
METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich, who angered many fans by waging a high-profile battle with Napster in 2000 over illegal music downloading, admitted in a recent interview that he has also used the Internet to obtain a full album's worth of music without paying for it. "I sat there myself and downloaded [METALLICA's latest CD] 'Death Magnetic' [illegally] from the Internet just to try it," he told Eddie Trunk of VH1 Classic's series "That Metal Show". "I was like, 'Wow, this is how it works.' I figured if there is anybody that has a right to download 'Death Magnetic' for free, it's me. I sat there one night at my house with about six of my friends and a bottle of wine. And what was it called?! [Trying to think of the name of the file-sharing client he used to download the album] We found it — this was like two or three days after ['Death Magnetic'] leaked. I was like, 'You know what? I've gotta try this.' So we sat there, and thirty minutes later, I had 'Death Magnetic' in my computer. It was kind of bizarre."

In a 2003 interview with Launch, Lars about the band's battle with Napster, "Most of the time, it's like a bad dream, like what the fuck was that? [Several] years later, it's like did that really happen? We went from being somewhat well-respected, well-liked, and then I woke up one day and all of a sudden I was the most hated man in rock 'n' roll. It was like, huh? Me? What did I do wrong? I'm one of the good guys. That was all kind of weird. If you look at our history, we've always been pretty protective of our own shit. When anybody got too close or fucked with our shit, we always took action. In retrospect, I'm proud of what we did, I really felt sideswiped on that one. In my own little ignorant world, I didn't see it coming. I was completely ignorant and unaware of the magnitude of this issue for people. I was just sitting there in my own little selfish world going, 'I'm going to protect METALLICA. Don't fuck with METALLICA.' Then (explosion sound), 'You're pro-record company, you're greedy!' I'm not pro-record company. We invented being anti-record company. We told our record company to go fuck themselves before anyone else. Stop. It was a very surreal thing, because it was so hard to connect what I read about myself and METALLICA, it was so abstract to what was on my radar about my own reality. People going, 'You're a really greedy little man.' It was like, what are you talking about? We've been giving shit away for years. We want to be the ones giving it away, not someone else. I'm proud of the stance we took. It was a very tough time. It was a much tougher time, because in the middle of that you have to put your best game face on. It was difficult. A lot of that shit hurt and it was very bewildering because it was difficult to connect it to your own reality. For better or worse, it got a good debate started. In retrospect, I'm not claiming any sort of victory — who gives a shit about that? — I think more people are starting to realize, not that we were right, but this is an issue that is changing the face of everything that is going on. Not only the music world, but the film world is next. What better way to deal with it than at least educate people about it. If nothing else, I look back at the six months in 2000 as the first step in the education."

So, a month ago one of the members at the club I work at asked for people who could sing to help out with a skit they were going to do at their closing party. A couple fo fellow employees volunteered, so, thinking it would be a group effort, I opened my big mouth and volunteered to join them.
Tonite, minus the chickenshit fellow employees who bailed out at the last minute, I'm supposed to stop serving and go up on stage as a suprise performer by myself and will be singing and playing my guitar in front of 140+ dinner guests! Shit!
I better atleast get an "Employee of the Month Award" out of this deal!

Good Luck with that, Broken D. Thanks pixiessp! I don't know if it was so much luck, or having balls that made tonite's performance a success, but I know I concurred any fears of playing in front of more than 2 people! The theme of their party was done like Academy Awards, and between dinner courses they would stop everything and do a presentation. Keep in mind, the average age at this club is like 70 years old, so chances were pretty good that most of them couldn't hear, or they were like your grandmother...where anything you did was precious and dear. The fact that I went up on stage with an electric guitar may have freaked them out abit, but they were still suprised that the server who had just brought them cocktails, or food, was now going to entertain them. The idiots I work with on the other hand, were just that... being idiots. They would have loved to see me eat shit up there on that stage, and I knew it, so you can bet I put my heart into it! I don't know about becomeing Employee of the Month, but I did get an encore and...
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w18/1BROKENDOLL/IMGP1099.jpg In as much as I would have preferred to play some Pink Floyd or Zeppelin songs, I chose to play "Imagine" and "Wind Beneath My Wings." (About the closest these ol' timers would ever get to rockin' out, right?) LOL

Make sure you don't drink out of a straw or do any kind of sucking on anything (not trying to be gross). I got dry socket when I got mine out from trying to spit my saliva out because I was so grossed out by the taste in my mouth. Dry socket is the worst pain ever. I didn't get it till Saturday and at that point my dentist was out of town until monday. I was popping 2 vicadin at a time every 3 hours and it didn't touch the pain. I thought I was going to die until Monday when they finally packed it.

If you're going to bite down on a teabag after surgery to help stop the bleeding (good idea) don't use a type of tea that you actively enjoy because you may develop an aversion to the taste after mixing it with blood for 12+ hours.

happened near my house once. we live near a pretty busy street and this dog was running in and out of traffic. we almost had him when some stupid bitch who couldn't stop for one goddamn second rolled up and honked right as a group of us were about to grab the dog. that shit freaked the dog out and it turned around and doubled back across traffic. i yelled some unpleasantries at her and tossed my water bottle at her car, nailing the back windshield. the dog was caught by animal control about an hour later.

so random, was heading out to the park with the family and what do we see? a stray dog running around newport blvd at 17th street. this is one of the busiest intersections around, especially on a friday around 3pm when everyone is leaving work. so we pull over and this dog is out right in the middle of the street. a guy in a wheelchair waiting to cross rolled out in front of cars to try and get them to stop since the dog was right in front of one of their bumpers. now all the assholes who can't wait 1 minute while we try and catch the dog start honking, scaring him. so he runs out further. i had to turn away a few times because i was sure he was going to get hit. somehow he avoids it all and starts running down old newport blvd., which is more protected and parallels the main street. followed him down a couple lights and he went behind a building and i lost him. hopefully he is ok. it was obviously a stray, though, so maybe it was better i couldn't grab him, this thing was one of those small yippy dogs that probably would have bitten me had i done so. if i had the chance i would have at least tried, though.

it's times like this that i lose a little respect for humanity. it's all "me, me, me"...if a few other people had stopped we probably could have caught him, but they needed to get home 1 whole minute sooner.

03-06-2009, 04:45 PM
I've had my (old) dog run away twice, and I was able to get him back both times--once because someone brought him in to the pound, and another time because he ended up at a neighbor's house (across a busy street!) because he wanted to visit with the neighbor's basset hound (my dog was a basset too!). I was lucky.

Nothing because you cannot afford anything … or, a half an hours work in the garden out back, or a short stint in the kitchen etc … or, you can pay what you think it was worth (or more to help out) … they just have like this little box that you put you money into (in an envelope) so you are not embarrassed on what you paid … the same couple tried this in NYC I guess a number or years back and they said the homeless were not the problem, but so called “frat types” that would come in drunk, eat a bunch of food, and then just walk out … we must have a higher class of people here or something … I wish more things like this would happen to get us all by … I read this weekend there are thousands of houses in Detroit that are going for under 10,000 … that is hard to believe so I looked some of them up, and the houses are really nice … what a sad state of affairs eh …. Without ridiculous bullshit, where would we be?

We'd be making do with facts, that's what. And facts are shit.

Reality is cruel and disappointing, and it turns out that drinking half a litre of neat vodka makes me sing karaoke, so I'd like to hide from that for a bit in a sea of implausible rumours and nonsensical internet bickering, please.

It wasn't the government, it was Philip Morris and RJ Reynolds raising their prices on their own.

The tax hike doesn't go into effect until April 1. Then the bag will be cheaper than the carton of cigs.

Godskitchen setup will be at coachella next year...

6eY9WW9bIag&feature

The Killers and Etienne de Crecy might have popularised the idea of a submersive audiovisual environment for live performance, but it was always clear DJs and club events would be next.

UK club event giants Godskitchen recently unveiled their brand new main arena festival DJ booth the Godskitchen Boombox at an event in the Ukraine, with trance monolith Armin Van Buuren being the first DJ to test out the system.

Their promo video shows exactly how amazing submersive DJ booths can be.

By wrapping the DJ up in a cocoon of light that syncs to the sound, the effect is akin to an all powerful god commanding you to worship him on a altar made of gold as he takes control of two of your most important senses.

(Actually, it was the only tent that was over 6' tall so we could stand up. At our age, bending over and crawling becomes a challenge, you know...) :rolleyes

But I will definately stop by and smoke with you guys at some point during the weekend.

I'm going to go throw up now Yes, we actually live together...for now, no joke. The funny shit starts Thursday in the campground when we're setting up our first tent together! LOL Oh, and here... Thinking of You...
How Not to Throw Up
Figure out what made you sick and don't think about it.
Think about some totally non-nauseating random topic and concentrate.
Breathe deeply.
Suck on a mint or chew gum to jump start your intestines in the correct direction
Dry crackers in small amounts may decrease nausea, if they work you may have been hungry- not ill.
Place a cool, damp cloth on your forehead or back of your neck
Motion sickness is caused because your brain is confused--your eyes say you are moving but your limbs say you are stationary. Pick up your knees like you were marching, but stay in your seat. Do not do this while driving. If you are driving , pull over and walk several paces back and forth on the shoulder, inhaling deeply and holding your breath for several seconds before exhaling. If you are a passenger, ask the driver to pull over and do the same. This works for almost everyone.
Throw Up Hints...
Know the causes of your nausea, if this has happened before you may be able to fix or avoid the feeling
Medicate before you have overwhelming nausea, so the medicines stay down and have a chance to work
Move to a cooler and breezier environment, crowded areas may decrease the available oxygen and cause claustrophobia
Take sips of liquids you can see through, they are easier on your stomach, no spicy or chewy meals
Don't do something stupid like eating a hot dog and then going on 10 rides at the county fair. You can hold it in, but only if you've got a REALLY strong stomach.
If you feel like your going to throw up, and absolutely can't help it, take deep breathes and relax. Let it just come out, and you'll avoid a whole lot of pain.
If you regularly experience nausea, it helps to carry a plastic "throw up" bag with you in a pocket or purse. The thin plastic bags used for fruits and vegetables at grocery stores work great! Just make sure there are no holes. You may find that with the bag, you actually feel less nauseous, because you can be reassured that even if you throw up, you will be fine. Please dispose of the bag as quickly as possible.

Hope you're feeling better, MeowMixer! :cat

i forgot you have to pay to look at that certain section(gay). anyway, its a guitar delay pedal . takes 2 years to make each unit and has an extremely high demand amongst rich studio jockeys who have far too much money to dispense. the guy is asking 1300.00 for it and they normally hover around the 2000.00 area when sold second hand if they ever go on sale.

two years to make a little effects box? I don't think they're working very hard.

Mr.Nipples
03-25-2009, 03:32 PM
the parts are hard to source, and the guy has about 6 other pedals in his line that he makes as well, all alone, and the demand for his stuff is huge. 6 months is the minimum wait list for his easiest to produce pedal. for a pedal that initially costs 750.00, it blows my mind he still uses fucking decals.
