Is that one of those heavily suggested vacations? Since it is a slow period from Christmas to New Year's, my place of employment essentially says "We're closed. Use your vacation if you want to get paid." When those dates actually come around, we at least need a skeleton crew. So if you still wanna werk, you can. i just don't dig the corporation selecting my vacation time.

Why did they have to burn them? God damned church ruins everything.

Church burns porn found at drive-in

The Associated Press

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Members of a Jacksonville church gathered to burn at least 100 reels of X-rated movies from the '70s and '80s that were discovered recently when the church bought on old drive-in theater.

The 300-member congregation of Christ Church Anglican held a special service Sunday afternoon, which included a ceremonial burning and a "holy hose-down" with water from a Jacksonville Fire and Rescue truck blessed by the priest.

Christ Church purchased the 13-acre drive-in for $1.4 million after the 60-year-old theater closed in May. The church closed on the deal a few weeks ago and discovered the porn stash when they began cleaning up.

The Rev. Mark Eldredge says the church plans to show family movies to the public after some repairs are done.

I watched it Saturday night (after Disneyland), and I think it sucks. The whole episode everyone was sad and upset because someone's grandma died. I don't know who she is, I don't CARE who she is. The acting sucks, and the romance (is there a romance?) sucks. I'm not going to bother watching it again. And Anna Paquin looks weird with blond hair. She's better as a brunette imo.

Yes! Lafayette is my favorite character. Loved it when he called Sookie "skank". I've been watching since the beginning, thinking "Alan Ball, vampires - what's not to like?" A lot of cheesy moments, but enough substance to keep me hooked. I think it will get better.

The whole Aidz burger episode was hilarious. I know Alan Ball can be a little eccentric and all, so I didn't know what to expect after I enjoyed the fuck out of Six Feet Under. I don't think this show will carry the torch of his previous masterpiece, but it is compelling on so many levels in a quasi-satirical manner. Lafayette is completely interesting as the comparison between real life anti-gay sentiment and a new type of fringe group stereotyping co-exist.

The acting is a bit much I must agree, but still, it can be entertaining.

Blinken
10-23-2008, 10:34 AM
I have been watching because of Alan Ball + Vampires. I am dissapointed but I am going to give it a full season before I give up, there are no Characters I like in this show other than Lafayette, everyone else is a douchebag or crazy bitch. Plus the acting is kinda bad.

Hopeless Semantic
10-23-2008, 10:36 AM
I think that's part of the ploy, Blinken. The acting has to be bad in order for the series to have appeal. It can't rely on the tried-and-true dark aspect of the vampier/human paradigm and so it needs the schtick of something clumsy and kind've outrageous. Perhaps he didn't want it to remain in the same shadow as Six Feet Under thrived in, and made him famous. Think Dexter in a sense...premise is catchy, acting is alright outside of Michael C. Hall, and it has an obnoxious thread to it.

In the story, Garrett, he is a werewolf and the werewolf/vampire storyline is prevelent in the book series. How far Alan Ball is going to take it, is going to be interesting. You also have to throw in Taryn's Demon and the "daywalker" angle with Sookie.

I like how they brought that storyline into play, Ivy. In fact, I'm glad they recognized it because identity theft was huge post-WWII, so for them to even mention it in the scheme of things is huge. The writing sometimes can bring too much of the mores and diction of the early 60's, but that's what makes this show really enjoyable for me. Also, you can see how the shift in mindset from the stuffy, uptight, and benign manner of the early part of the decade to the loose, carefree, and counter culture 2nd half.

I think the real Mrs. Draper and Dick Whittman had something more than the cover-up, so we'll see how they go with that angle.

I love Californication. I'm just really not clicking with it. I, too, wish that Karen and Hank would've stayed together...

Yes, because the diet pills back then did contain meth. There's a book in which the author tells a story about how her mom was both a housemom and pimped herself out during the day. I forgot the name of the book, but it was interesting how she parlayed the diet/meth issue in the 50's and 60's.

I have a question vis a vie another thread. I was listening to the radio last week and the talk show host said something to the effect: “if you are discussing a minority of any sort and you say, some of friends are (fill in the blank), that is really a code for you are prejudiced against them” the rest of the explanation didn’t make a whole lot of sense to me but if you are : gay, a person of color (no white doesn’t count as a color) does what he said have any validly? Well I am out of here and will see if there are any responses at home. Peace ….x****

Ron, if you want a real answer to your question, it is yes. Does it mean that you're a bad person? No. One of the classes I took my last quarter of college was "Black Politics." First day of class, our professor delved into reading race as a language. We all attribute certain characteristics to different groups and willingly classify ourselves into groups. Within these groups are internal and external assumptions. People feel comfortable with generalizations. I know I make them all of the time and I have friends and family of every group you could imagine (except Inuit and Aborigine). Even within groups there are divides and assumptions and they criss cross and blend. We take cues from superficial things we can ascribe to people which trigger a certain response-- positive or negative.

Darkness Falls across the land. The midnight hour is close at hand. Creatures crawl in search of blood to terrorize yours neighborhoods. And who so ever shall be found, without a soul for getting down, must stand and face the Hounds of Hell and rot inside a corpsy shell. The foulest stench is in the air—the funk of forty-thousand years—and grizzly ghouls from every tomb are closing in to seal your doom. And though you fight to stay alive, your body starts to shiver. ok, so about the fairness doctrine. i havent found anything about the "new" one. i say new because i heard they wanna change it a little from what it used to be. from what i gather, they are not saying that there needs to be "equal time", but just a contrasting point of view. thats sounds fair. but to be imposed by the government? i dont agree with that at all. i would rather they break up the few huge parent companies that own all the airwaves. not in to smaller subsidiaries, but completely diff. companies. im a small gov. kind of guy, i dont want them to be telling me whats fair or not. thats basically it. but the idea that viacom can own as much air as it does frightens me. so, i dont necessarily disagree with the idea, i disagree with it being implemented by uncle sam.

I only kind of know what it says also. If we regulated the media, then we wouldn’t need the fairness doctrine which is what you are saying, but just differently I think. When three companies own essentially the airwaves, money talks so whatever sells is what they broadcast. More rich people are conservative because they don’t want the govt taking their money. The majority of big business owners are conservative. Since deregulation under Clinton (I think) it just keeps going that way. It just all rolls downhill and sucks us up. In the extreme, it could get to a point where there is never “the other side” mentioned at all because it doesn’t sell. I wouldn’t want the govt to use something like the fairness doctrine to say: for every rock and roll song you play on the radio, you have to play a classical tune. I understand that so I just say: regulate the hell out of them till they learn the lesson. It just seems that every time we take govt out of big business, the business do better, and we in turn suffer for it. One other argument, the airwaves are owned by the people i.e.: the govt, we can make them do anything we want or else we can take their licenses. Another possible answer is when we can update the bandwidth or technology so there might be a thousand radio and TV stations out there anyone can access (yes I know there is an internet), then just listen to the ones you like, but the variety and choices have to be there. Do most large radio stations suck: yes, because they will only play the pabulum that sells, or the pabulum that sold 20 years ago. Just saying ….. cr****

Many artists demand quirky stuff like this. I have a DJ friend who regailed us with the unusual demands top notch artists request. I'm not surprised by this, and I'm sure there are other acts that require weirder things. Though, wanting tube socks and underwear sure warrants some questioning the probably beguiles the usual chit-chat. OK so spent the day with my ex but not the night so I do have some will power. And then I had to see him this morning to get my purse out of his car and I realized seeing him while sober, that I still hate him. While buzzed and high the hate goes away a bit but sober... yep, he is still an ass. And the funny thing I realized yesterday, for a big strong thugged out guy who thinks he has all his shit together, he is the most codependent man I have ever met. In fact, he may be even more codependent then my friends. He can not be alone. Which makes me feel a little sorry for him.

I know. It was a bad call on my part. I try to always be friends with my ex's. But sometimes it is too soon for friends. And knowing him, the only reason he called is cuz he can't be alone and he even told me that hanging out with me is like coming home. I can't be his backup plan, it does shit for my self esteem.

oh trust me, I am great at analyzing and knowing what is right and wrong, just not very good at telling him no. He has some weird hold over me which doesn't make any sense at all considering how fucked up he has been. Yes I admit, I do occasionally have girl type feelings. UGH

Damn. I just got my first paycheck. I haven't had a real job in 4 years. I didn't realize how much the government takes. With my student loans, it looks like I've got a life of abject poverty ahead of me. I'm pretty good at juggling if you're interested in learning early in life.

I have never eaten a smore.???

WTF! I feel obligated to make you smores now if we ever meet in person.A sample that explains the name...believe that!

That is truly the most depression-inducing post you've written...

do I write many depression inducing posts???? OK Coachella 09 I will have to bring the makings for a smore, although there are no campfires so I am not sure how that will work. Oh well. I am not a big fan of chocolate so I don't know that I am missing much. The smore you know, the smore you'll realize what you've been missing!

I find it funny that of all the things I have revealed about myself on this board the most shocking of them is that I have not eaten a smore. I have also never seen the movie ET which seems to shock alot of people.

Something about having him be a part of my life in whatever aspect is possible even if it is bad for me. He was the first guy since I was 19 who gave me butterflies. Never listen to the butterflies, they are evil.

I hate to cry, and since I do not allow myself to cry often in real life whenever I watch sad movies I bawl like a baby. I cried my eyes out watching titanic and the movie message in a bottle sent me into a depression. I want happy endings from my movies, not sad ones. So I usually avoid those kind of movies.

so what im showing now, "prevented" you? im lost.

Look, with certain bands there is a fan following that irritates me, Tool is among those bands that have a lot of aggro followers who want to belittle you if you don't see the "genius" of their music. Those type of people turn me off from listening to certain bands and I admit that I miss out on good music sometimes, but when someone who fits the main demographic of a Tool fan tells me that it's stupid that I like "the pot" and it's not really what Tool is about, well they just lost someone who would've given it a fair shot, just like you calling me a dick because I say Tool fans are dicks. They are just like Radohead fans are, NIN fans are and Metallica fans are. I have no undying loyalty to any group.

marooko
11-10-2008, 01:03 PM
ally, you having a bad day?

i didnt call you a dick, i asked you if you were one. then i worked off your answer. that wasnt calling you a dick, or directly agreeing.

relax babe. rock out with your cock out. and take more pics too, that one was funny.

EDIT:

i dont have an undying loyalty to Tool. I DO really enjoy AEnima, but i wouldnt consider myself a major fan or my loyalty undying.
