:D Sasquatch is right around the corner and there are quite a few Boardies attending this year. Therefore, we should try and facilitate a board meet-up, carpool, group picture and camping extravaganza :D

This thread will be used to create a comprehensive list of the Boardies planning on attending, where they will be staying and detail possible car pool situations. This list will be instrumental in organizing the creative shuffling necessary to pair the people who were unable to get into the Wildhorse Campgrounds with those people with Wildhorse Reservations and room in their car. Let no person be left behind nor left wanting at Sasquatch !!!

I also have a Wildhorse camping pass and am tentatively camping with Barb and Amyzzz +1. Though we may want to reshuffle the carpool combos since I will be arriving late on Friday and they are going to arrive earlier in the day.

I'd *love* to get in earlier in the day to set up in daylight and hang out but I can't get out of work on Friday.

We'll have room for peeps to camp with us, they just might have to find a ride there and back...the spot is reserved till Tuesday.

I'll keep you posted and let you know if our friends are joining us or not.

Eric, I'm arriving in Seattle at 7:30 -- I'm expecting that with picking up rental & doing some beer/grocery shopping, we'll be at Wild Horse by 11 or 12. I think Cara is getting in to Seattle around 10:30.

OK - so, it turns out that my bf's band is playing their last show on the Sasquatch weekend.

I guess that pretty much decides it - we aren't going. Too bad, I really wanted to meet up with some of you again, but I guess there's always Outside Lands and next year's Coachella!

ANYWAY - I AM SELLING MY WILDHORSE CAR CAMPING PASS. Of course, it's just a confirmation email from Wildhorse and from Paypal but that will have to do.

What supermarkets/stores are in Quincy ?? WH allows cars in & out, correct ?

faxman75
04-27-2010, 03:43 PM
Yes they do allow ins and outs. I don't know about supermarkets in Quincy but they have an AM/PM gas station about 15 minutes away or so. I'm sure you can google groceries or whatever near quincy.

chiapet
04-27-2010, 03:57 PM
I don't remember there being anything you could call a "supermarket", but hearing that there are some smaller grocers in the next town over. I'm afraid the nearest town with real supermarkets & large stores is probably Wenatchee which is a 30-45 minute drive.

Your best bet would be to do the majority of your shopping in Seattle before getting on the road. You quickly move away from urban & suburban areas into pretty rural country. There is a supermarket and liquor store very close to the airport.

The AM/PM gas station Mark mentioned is very close and reasonably well stocked with beer for a rural gas station, but it's not going to have *everything* and doesn't have much in the way of groceries. There are a couple of family style diners/restaurants and a decent taco truck hovering in the area.

fikus222
04-27-2010, 04:12 PM
There are markets in Quincy, but the closest city with a Safeway and Walmart is 22 miles away in the town of Ephrata.

Edit:

Last year we stopped for ice and our final groceries at a Safeway 1.5hrs East of Seattle, along hwy 90, in the city of Cle Elum, which is just over an hour West of the Festival.

MarkO
04-27-2010, 04:21 PM
Thanks. Do you folks bring much in the way of food (meals, not snacks) or do you make do with the festival food ?

Likelihood of getting decent beer in an am/pm is slim to sod all. I'll be trucking beers north then ....

Mr Patton and I haven't decided on a meetup point yet in Seattle but I hope to get lunch in Fado's and maybe fill up a growler at Elysian Brewpub.

I've always solo'd at festivals or gone with a good friend. This will be different ! :)

fikus222
04-27-2010, 04:54 PM
For the evening meal last year, we brought a Coleman gas grill to cook our hot dogs, chili and soup. In the mornings we had yogurt and peanut butter'n banana sandwiches. The midday meal(s) consisted of festival food (yakisoba bowls and chicken skewers).

This year I will again bring the gas grill, but I'm going to try some new stuff too i.e. grilled chicken sandwiches. Has anyone tried the pre-cooked chicken breasts that they sell next to the pre-made tuna? If so, how are they? I was thinking of grilling them up, melting cheese on'em and placing them in'a bun and have those as the after show meal.

We were in GA Camping last year, so the addition of WHs food menu is a major plus. Does anyone know how late they serve food?

amyzzz
04-27-2010, 04:59 PM
Do we all have to caravan in at the same time to get spots together? I'm trying to work out if I should get my own pass (from stubbadub), and just go in Saturday morning, or if I should try to head in Friday night and set up camp in the dark.

Jacob is very leery of this whole plan (Sasquatch), so I gotta do what makes him the most comfortable.

fikus222
04-27-2010, 05:09 PM
This might help Amyzzz, from the Wildhorse site:

If your Group includes more than 4 members or late arrivals, additional wrist bands may be purchased with cash at the Gate upon arrival.

Weren't they charging $10 for each person over 4? If so, wouldn't that mean it's prolly the same for people not arriving together, which would be helpful in maximizing our WH attendance. For instance, I have an RSVP for 4 people, but can only fit 3 peeps in my car, which might mean that for an additional $10 someone can get in on our RSVP. Right?

chiapet
04-27-2010, 05:11 PM
Pretty late, Eric. They were still serving food, though a more limited version of the menu, after the last set when we camped there in '08 and it seems like they served dessert pretty late. The food was pretty decent too. The only thing I remember about late night food is that they got pissy about special ordering.

I don't bring a lot of food because I don't end up eating it. If you had a grill and no ambition to get into the festival very early, you could easily make breakfast & lunch. The food inside the Gorge venue is kind of crap, if I were more motivated I'd cook, but I usually just eat goldfish and drink. :)

Amy, I truly don't think we need to caravan together, BUT there are no guarantees about the spots when we come in separately. I think if we could at least arrange ourselves into a few groups (instead of all driving in separately), we have a better chance of having this work since we'll wear less on the patience of the people running it. (Who were really really nice people).

If we have a general idea of how many cars total, and when people are coming in, I'd be glad to email or call ahead to see what they have to say.

The campground is really small, and I seem to remember them setting aside a big spot for a group the year we camped there. And worst case, if someone got separated, they could probably move their tent the next morning.

I don't know how that works in terms of extra people -- I expect they mean people arriving without their own carload, since the spots are based on number of cars.

venturas90sgirl

I feel a little more comfortable about caravaning just because it's my 1st Sasquatch but with the arrangement of flights it's probably more realistic to do it in small groups for those who want to arrive Fri night vs. Sat morning.

chiapet
04-27-2010, 05:20 PM
I don't really feel strongly about it either way. The considerations I was thinking of:

- It would suck for people getting in < 5PM to wait around several hours (especially since those of us coming in like 7-9PM will still probably want to do grocery shopping).

- If we wait until the last arrivals and all head in after, we won't get there until well after 1, maybe closer to 2. Will they still have a lot of adjacent spots? Will we aggravate everyone by rolling in 10 cars and setting up in the middle of the night?

- If we really just have one or two cars driving in very late, I think we can try to direct them to us, if the people who run the place are really not having it, worse case we sort it out in the morning.

BTW, my arrival estimates are based on the drive being about 2.5 hours. Adding in another ~1.5 hours to get car rentals, grocery shop, collect everyone, and because, let's face it, a lot of us are poky people when it comes to getting on the road.

fikus222

I think that if notify WH ahead of time, they would prolly do something to accommodate us as we arrive. Then our staggered arrival times wouldn't be all that disruptive.

amyzzz
04-27-2010, 05:33 PM
I have to say I'm leaning towards hanging with Sasquatch veterans upon arrival to Seattle since I have no idea what to expect or where to go. Like I said before, my main concern is making Jacob comfortable because he is reluctant about going to Sasquatch and camping.

I really truly do not think it will be a problem either. At most I think they might ask anyone arriving very late to park for the night and deal with it in the morning.

Cara, if you're the only group arriving late, I have no doubt we'll be able to figure out. Worst case they do not let you park next to us, and we help you move stuff over. I can't stress how small the campground is, even compared to Coachella.

If he is reluctant about camping and wants to set up during daylight, you should see if anyone else is heading over earlier in the day. I am pretty sure Aimz (zonkerb) tries to get there during daylight. Probably some of the Seattle locals too. I don't find setting up in the dark to be problematic but I know my tent well.

Sure it is. Your confirmation has your name on it and they have a clipboard with all the names when you arrive. They cross off the name on the clipboard and wristband everyone. They aren't checking ID's and they just want to make sure more than one person isn't using the same camping pass.

We'll be heading out from Seattle Friday morning and arriving around noon. We always cook our meals there and bring food into the venue as the food at the Gorge is terrible. The last major town with grocery stores and liquor is Ellensburg, which is about 30 minutes west of the river on I-90. After that it's just mini-marts.

Perhaps this is overly ambitious for our group, but with the number of us camping together, our consensus on how bad the gorge food is, and at least one or two people stating they were bringing grills/stoves...

Do we want to have a group breakfast or lunch? Maybe even just the first day? I can't bring a stove but can do some grocery shopping before I leave Seattle.

Normally I end up eating total garbage the whole time, might be nice to have real food and veggies and such. I am not vegetarian but every year I've gotten bent out of shape over not having anything but sandwiches and greasy stuff to eat.

I don't remember this at all. I waited 5-10 minutes for a burger, I think. I don't even remember what I ate. A chicken bowl may have happened at some point, though I convince myself I ate a chicken bowl everywhere I've ever been. It's sort of my default food (???).

I eat at the fest and in the past 2 years of attendance I have never once waited in a line for food. Maybe I pick the right time to eat or something but I can't even picture an hour line anywhere at the festival. I'm guessing they have changed things if it used to be a pain in the ass.

Can we throw up some sort of a faq / useful info for Sasquatch newbs ? as in yes it's May but you need to pack for 3 seasons. That kind of thing.

'05 had scorching hot weather. '06 had a big hailstorm that shutdown performances. '07 had high winds that shutdown the mainstage. Damn cold too.

I don't remember waiting more than a couple of minutes for food, but I also give up easily because I'd rather be watching a band than eating.

Let's plan for brunch Saturday & Sunday (and maybe Monday if we have managed to keep groceries fresh that long), to satisfy both getting fed and getting into the venue early. Keep in mind they let you bring food in to the venue too.

Judging by last year it may be extremely important to get there early on Saturday. The line was amazingly long for admission to the venue.

For weather/clothing, you're on the right track, Holly. I've only gone two years but have not been very cold *except* when it's raining. There have been days where it was very warm and very sunny and a sundress or shorts + tshirt were perfect. By night I wanted a sweatshirt. For sleeping you will probably want long pants.

No matter what, plan for rain. :)

venturas90sgirl

Oh of course I can easily pack a rain jacket if necessary.

I'm totally down for brunch, should get some packages of pastries for the mornings, do they have smart & final up there because they have great choices? If not costco would probably work.

Janelle, Jeff or Scott would probably be the ones to ask about that. Yes to Costco (though probably not -near- the Gorge). Not sure about Smart & Final.

Was thinking maybe things that are easy to prepare/keep, maybe just like eggs, prepared potatoes, bacon or something, tomatoes/salsa, bread, tortillas, toppings, so people could either have eggs + toast + etc or some sort of breakfast burrito? All of that stuff seems reasonably easy to keep in a cooler over the weekend.

In the Capitol Hill area. At a place called Redwood, unless there are too many people who want to go. Looks to be 25 minutes or so from the airport, pretty close to I-5, and not really too far from I-90. I don't think it's out of the way and it would be cool to stop in and see Corinna and maybe Jared for an hour or so before hitting the road.

That would put us at Wildhorse past midnight or so, I'm guessing. We were up until 5:00 or 6:00 last year, anyway, so it shouldn't be a pain. I don't plan on staying up like that this year.

The reason you don't remember traffic is because we didn't even leave Seattle until like 11PM? And apparently what I thought was staying reasonably above the speed limit was considered lunatic driving. :nono

Most of us are arriving after rush hour, and the time to wait for luggage, get the rental, get groceries, adds up.

Yup, as Mark said, the very right lower corner.

Also, this is a good time to point out, Baseline is the road you want to remember, if you're camping at WH and arriving (or coming or going from the campgrounds) during a time when there could be festival related traffic (like a couple of hours before/after the festival) -- instead of using silica to get back to the highway.

You can take baseline out to beverly burke and get to the access road for the George exit of I-90 (which has a gas station with beer, subway, a couple of small restaurants). For example:

Yes, me and my now ex- should be getting to WH pretty early as I'm thinking we'll stay in Kennewick Thursday night, again. Last year we got to the VIP (ha!) campground at 1.

I'll have some of the stuff left over from Coachella with me (vodka and jack in waterbottles, some Monsters, water, etc.). Is it worthwhile to bring a couple of canopies? And yes, we will definitely find a use for the russian water. I plan on making bloody marys to go along with breakfast. Maybe if I have enough time to shop I'll get stuff for mimosas too.

The cooking is going to be a good thing! The more I think about it, the more I was dreading the food choices in the venue.

Hmm, only if he was in the womens' shower line: I spent a good chunk of time there ...

LOL. WH is so different. There will be a shower line if you don't get up early... but it's like a 30-45 min line TOPS. It's also a unisex line so you don't get stuck behind 50 girls who've all decided to shave and put on makeup.

We ran into him a few times at different sets but I can't remember who was with us at the time. Come to think of it, I don't remember seeing you IN the venue very much.

I was there with Seattle droogs who fear camping and non-obscure bands :)

Of course, you'd think think this would have put us at the same stages, but I was trying to keep Lisa and Steve happy and not too overwhelmed by the whole great outdoors of it all so we spent much time looking for shade, sitting on the hillsides or in that grassy area where behind that Jack Daniels dispensary.

I only regret that I wasn't able to focus more on The Hazards of Love.

Hey all, so I'm in a little bit of a bind. Due to family emergency the road trip will not be happening. I need to fly to Boston next week and with Sasquatch so close ill probably fly directly into Seatac from either Logan or one of the NY airports. If anyone can give me a ride let me know, I do have my Wild Horse pass still.

Scott, I know I'm supposed to drive with you but ill try to work it out maybe ill just rent a car.

So so sorry I'm throwing this out so soon but its been hell for me the last week trying to figure this out and now I need to scramble for flights. Ill keep you guys posted here and on fb with any updates. Thank you so much if you can help.

Don't know your real name, but when are you getting in venturas90sgirl? My flight arrives on Friday at 4:45 (god-willing), and we could probably give you a ride. We already have a WH pass.

It's me and my husband Jacob and possibly herro kitty Barbara if she jumps aboard just to get WH privileges. We're renting a "mid-size" vehicle.

Kylie, if you are feeling adventurous you could just come and try to buy tickets day of. If you can't get in, well, you can just stay at the campground and cook a 9 course meal for us to come home to.

I think we should aim to do the group picture on Sunday.

I have to just go ahead and say no. I found tickets for $275, but the bus or airfare is outrageous. It's like 400 dollars to take a BUS to Seattle. It's just not something I can afford. I would love to go with you all and dance all day and eat pancakes and drink some cold beer, but it just isn't financially possible. I am sure you are all going to have an amazing time, so take some great pictures so I can relive it with you.

Hopefully, next year.

Edit: Give me 2 more days. I am going to see what I can hustle. I'm not that far off.

Last major stop is Ellensburg on I-90, about 30 minutes west of the venue. It's a (minor) college town so it has the major grocery and liquor needs for your trip and all conveniently located near the highway. You'll probably want to fill your gas tank here too.

So who wants to meet up at a bar on Friday night in Seattle to have a couple of drinks with Corinna and (possibly) Jared? I'm thinking around 8:00 in the Capitol Hill area.
