Coheed is not the worst band ever, god stop exaggerating. And there's no way that was planned it's just a good thing it went out quickly. It would have sucked if it got worse, I remember seeing it and being worried

Yeah I was really worried for a minute there. If that got out of control then things couldv'e gotten real bad real quick

Black smoke is not planned smoke.

well i thought that at first too, but the way it was on both sides of the stage in the exact same spot, and both stopped at the same time without anybody going anything...it seemed pretty planned. i thought maybe it was some "we're dark, black, cheesy metal douches, check out our black smoke" type of thing. i could be wrong though. i was in the beer garden right there, so could have mis-interpreted it.

As I recall, some of the crowd were chanting this while the XX was playing and when the song was over the bassist repeated the mantra.

I was at an angle to the stage when they came on, and pretty close. the smoke started out of nowhere and billowed out for 10-15 seconds, and there was a small, sickly yellow flame where it was coming out. If that was a planned effect it was lame as hall, but it didn't look right to me. maybe it was supposed to be something more and it messed up/broke somehow. Wouldn't surprise me at Clusterfuckchella.

It was planned and symmetrical. Fire rose from the same place on both sides of the Coachella stage.

Yeah it must of been planned. Otherwise they would have shut down the stage to deem it safe.

Viewed this from the Outdoor Stage during The xx. I was laughing hysterically because I knew it was planned by terrible Coheed & Cambria

Rose is the wrong word man. Flickered at best, was barley a glow on the left side.

Didn't think about that XX lyric having to do with the fire. Interesting.

Between Coheed and Faith No More they had about 7 guys climb up there to check on it.

Maybe it was supposed to be some type of pyro and it fucked up, but no, they didn't plan for there to be a small, unflashy fire and clouds of black smoke.

"Welcome Home" with the USC band was on fire.

Wow. I was upfront and did not know this. We did notice the guys climbing up before FNM. I thought they were just setting-up something for FNM or Muse.

Fucking sucks I had to waste my time on Coheed just to be close for FNM, only to have tween Muse fans in front of me. I didn't notice the smoke, though. I had never heard Coheed before Saturday and I hope I never have to again.

Couldn't get my camera out before the flames went away but here's the shot I got of the smoke.

I was watching this from the Outdoor when it happened. The worst part was I wasn't sure whether to freak out or admire how pretty it looked against the sunset.

Here's my reply with pictures from this thread (http://coachella.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40904).

Are you sure this wasn't part of the show? I was at The XX and saw this... at first I was startled but then I noticed they had fire animations on the screens and that the fire seemed to be symmetrical. Either way, I snapped a few pictures from my location.

I'm posting links to them because they are 3200 pixels wide.
