This lineup deserved its own fucking thread.

If anyone stumbles on that presale...give it. I mean, seriously, this is the most Kitt Kat-tastic lineup ever assembled.

If you bought any type of Hollywood Bowl package, you should be able to get seats now for this show with your account. We have an account but we're waiting after Coachella to see what's up regarding coverage.

Goddamnit. I almost bought a subscription package this year, too.

So, non package people can't buy boxes for non-subscription shows?

Goddamnit. I almost bought a subscription package this year, too.

Non-package people get the leftovers. Last year we got the KCRW package w/ Adele, Grace Jones & a festival, traded the festival date for another show (Which they let you do) and got boxes (Beastie Boys, Death Cab, etc) for the other shows in other packages for shows we wanted or added before they went on sale to the public. Same with Disney Hall shows. It pays in the long run to be a member.

on sale May 2nd ;)

and yeah, i was asking for the $300 box seats for a graduation present, but my parents said "NOOO" and i decided to wait until next year. sigh.

i guess i'll scramble for those leftovers right at 10am on may 2nd. or maybe i'll get lucky and get the first batch of rows :)

No Age at the Bowl concerns me...from my experience they really don't translate well in a big setting (see: opening for Explosions in the Sky at the Palladium last year), but then again they were actually good but it was the crowd that was disengaged and shitty. I'm sure the crowd at the Bowl will be much better.

Been out of town, finally caught up, sorry.... The Phils site can have its own presale yes, they are weird on sending out passwords on time though, so if TM has one, itll be more reliable. I have gotten presale info about shows they are putting on 8 hours later, and they did not even mention that a presale was happening.

It will be on ticketmaster, their page has not updated yet, I wouldnt sweat it unless its 9:55 am and its not showing it will happen tomorrow morning.

And you cannot complain about paying so much to see these bands play the hollywood bowl of all places. It comes with the premium of being able to watch amazing music in a great setting with awesome sound.

seandlr
04-21-2010, 12:39 PM
If you go to hollywoodbowl.com/presale it'll say that on April 22, all presales for those events listed begin that day. And as I said before, your password is SUMMER. I would check that page again tomorrow to see if it gives you another link.

suprefan
04-21-2010, 12:40 PM
Also, Tm site lists pricing at $70 to $30. so that squashes any questions on that.

The SUMMER password should be for a different round of the presales, since there are 3 different ones happening, all staggered throughout this coming week.

Boxes fit 4 people, some hold 6 but they are hard to come by. Youll be comfy and have room, I wouldnt worry too much.

nope, per person. Its like any seated venue, youll have a seat in the box, along with 3 other people if its just you. Better study the seating chart, or you will confuse yourself.

jtovar21
04-21-2010, 11:45 PM
Yeah this show will definitely be worth getting box seats. I've always hated the sound from the benches, unless everyone is drunk and partying around you...bring binoculars if you get stuck on the bench..

I think the whole Silverlake and Echo Park community will be at this event..if you know what I mean ;) Hipster Patrol will be in full effect at the Bowl like never before! The line up is practically their wet dream.

Not unless its Radiohead and youre sitting in the Pool circle, sounds as good as it would sitting in garden or terrace. When bands that care about how it sounds, play at the bowl, they make it a point.

I'm going to say probably not. I'm not really looking at this like a pavement concert but more of a joint sonic youth pavement concert so they will both probably get a little over an hour. Which sucks because all sonic youth songs are long so we won't get too big of a set from them.

Hold your horses everybody, the Bowl specifically has Pavement as a headliner for this show, they will be playing a headlining set. This is not some mini festival or co-headlining gig. Sonic Youth IS an opener.

jtovar21
04-22-2010, 02:19 PM
Yeah..That Matador Bday Party looks tasty..might be another way to blow a few hundred dollars in Sin City.

I hope we get a full Pavement set, the Bowl is pretty notorious to keeping right on schedule. If they say 8 pm..they mean music starts right at 8 pm. So if No Age gets 30 - 40 mins. Sonic Youth goes on probably at 9 pm..they get same amount..that would mean Pavement wouldn't get on stage til hopefully 9 45 - 10 pm. Which would only give them 60 -75 mins. Can anyone confirm this is true. I've seen Underworld, Groove Armada and Flaming Lips there, I recall each of them getting pretty short sets. I was off my tits though so I could be wrong.

How long did Radiohead get? And was there more than one opener?

Radiohead had one opener, and played their full set of 2 hours and 15 minutes. Even back in 2001, Radiohead had 2 openers, and played their full set. I think the show can start earlier to make sure Pavement can play a full set.

First timers to the Bowl. Try and get as close as you can get. Splurge for the higher priced seats if you plan on trying to enjoy the music. The benches aren't all that great and you practically need binoculars to see whats going on. The sound isnt all that great either. It really depends on the crowd up there.

I was at the Flaming Lips show in the benches, the visuals and the fact that the crowd went apeshit crazy around me made it tolerable being that far back. So it's a gamble.

Also, plan on getting there pretty early. Picnic or bring some drinks on before hand and just relax around the bowl. The parking is stacked, but somehow I always had no problems getting out if I got there a couple hours early before the show. I only had problems when I was getting there a little late. You get there late, you'll have to wait a while before all the cars in front of you start moving.

Also know..if the ticket says 8 pm...they really mean 8 pm..The band will already be playing. So if you want to catch the opening act, make sure your keister is in your seat at exactly 8 pm. Because if you get there by 8:30, they will most likely be done. Trust me, i've learned this the hard way.

Its not an unrare thing either for that to happen.

Thats what the Hb shuttle is for and the subway, so you dont have to worry about parking.(and u can sober up on the trip home) So I need binoculars in Sections D and E(which are benches) to see the band? Nope, you dont. And theres benches that are besides the Super Seats on each side and higher, so you are giving false information on the sound not being good at a certain distance when you actually mean Sections L and up.

Yeah Sections L- P aren't so bad. Referring to benches Q and UP. The least expensive in the house. If I go to Bowl shows I try to get up to at least F- K. Otherwise I don't enjoy it as much, especially if the crowd is mellow. But if it's a high energy show, a la Underworld or that Flaming Lips show, then the crowd will usually make up for the downside of sitting in those areas.

True..take the shuttles there. I live not to far from venue now,so parking isn't too much of an issue anymore, I just hop on the subway and get off on Hollywood and Highland, and just walk a mile or so to the venue.

I was at the Bowl tonight (working for Fool's Gold) and I got really excited for September 30th...

What was up with the sound? In section D I had trouble hearing the music over the people around me talking and making noise. It wasn't as bad during Fool's Gold, but got worse as the night went on. We left during Baaba Maal and the sound was louder in the parking lot than it was inside the venue.

To be honest, I was only in the Bowl during Yeasayer. We showed up early, so my bosses bought me a ticket and we went inside, sat down for a while, drank a beer, and then went back out to bombard the hipster crowd who left right after Yeasayer with the cards.

You probably saw me/my bosses and were probably hassled for a free FG download ;)

Pretty sure that is where I was for Arcade Fire in 2007, it is pretty far back but well worth it for that price. You won't see on stage very clearly, but there are screens. I don't remember the sound being an issue there, but I've only been to the Bowl twice.

Short, because for some reason this thing starts at 8. Should start at 7, so then everyone gets ample time. Ill go with this until I get real set times thursday afternoon.

Also at Coachella their poster was available at the end of the night on sunday. I'm not worried about it.

It won't sell that quickly unless the price is right. Its not like its an EMEK. Then again posters of lesser known artists tend to not make it on to the secondary market (fleabay) as much so I guess I should snag one.

Sonic Youth were excellent, and I was very impressed. Much better live then on their records IMO. And I love that we got a bunch of old material.

Both bands were awesome. Sets for both were waaay too short. Maybe I'm spoiled because of Pavement's show in Pomona and SY every other time I saw them.
Hollywood Bowl was one of the worst choices for a venue. I can't be the only one to think that, right? In the beginning of SY's set, it felt like I was the only one standing for them in the pit. It was very strange.

Yah agreed, sets were too short. Pavement played the same number of songs as their Coachella set (18), but there were some differences.

It seemed fine to me, everyone was standing in the Garden boxes for Pavement. People get an opener mentality going I think and don't get into it. The sound was great for all 3 bands though. They should have just started the show at 7pm.

Absolute perfection, no one else in the box other than me and my wife, which was amazing and such a fun party! Sonic Youth were on another level though! Out of the 7 times Ive seen them, last night ranks #2, behind their Wiltern show from this year, where they played for over 1h45min... couldnt have asked for anything better from them with their time slot. Pavement were really great as well, but cant even compare to the legends of Sonic Youth and how much they rocked out and sounded.

Yesterday was great. Took us quite a while to get to LA. Stopped by Ballast Point and Lost Abbey to fill some growlers and do some tasting. Picked up a pint of Avery Salvation from a BevMo for the show. That was a delicious beer. With those stops and traffic from the weather, didn't get to Ameoba until like 530. Spent an hour or so there, I'll post what I got in the purchases thread.

No Age were awesome. Only thing that sucked was the two biggest douchebags I've ever encountered decided to stop at our box. They were ridiculously drunk, falling all over the place. Wouldn't shut up, etc, etc. Returned from a cigarette and security was at our box, they told us to hang tight while they figured out what to do with them. A few songs into SY the girl who actually had a seat in the same box as us arrived and those fuckers were escorted out. I've never been happier to see a complete stranger.

Sonic Youth and Pavement both kicked ass, but SY was definitely my favorite of the night. So glad they played another 80's set, as I didn't get to actually see most of their ATP set. Of course I wish both had longer sets though. Somebody fucked up big time by scheduling that at 8. It was my favorite of the 3 times I've seen Pavement this year.

Umm... any chance anybody got an extra poster? Really bummed I didn't get one, totally thought there would be some after especially with how small the crowd was. Wasn't there a second poster as this show, besides the Tuffy one? Had a shark on it I believe. Anyone know who the artist was and where we could find one?

ALL I WANT FOR XMAS IS THE POSTER FROM THIS GODDAMN SHOW.

Not on Ebay, not online. Unless any of you can point me in the right direction, my poster collection is missing a very, very important piece.

Pretty sure it was orange. I had the last one in my hand but it was kinda fucked up so I passed in it.

There are some there. Been looking for this myself. I found it once, but with shipping it was $45 so I didn't buy it, this came out to $32.

Awesome! Thanks! (But I wonder what this means...."Please note, these posters have been on tour and are not in mint condition.")

I mean, I frame all my show posters...just worried.

I was little worried as well, but mine arrived today and it is in good condition. Not numbered though, anybody know if the ones sold at the show were numbered?

So happy to have this poster, I've now got one for each of the 3 times I saw Pavement (others being Coachella and Pitchfork).
