I'm not sure what I'm envisioning for this thread, but a lack of a good initial idea has never stopped a thread on this board from blossoming, so I thought I'd throw a kickball thread out there.

My kickball league starts on Sunday.

Feel free to include stories and pictures from your kickball leagues. Or memories of kickball as a child.

Nando, I'm looking in your direction.

If you couldn't tell, I am too. Unfortunately, it's one Sundays this spring, and I try and avoid drinking on Sundays outside of football season.

Dodgeball is vastly superior to kickball, because you get to hurt people. Who wouldn't love that?

I haven't played kickball since I was a kid (many, many years ago). But I loved it. It is so much easier to kick the big bouncy ball than to hit the little hard one with a bat.

I could kick the ball into the fenced bike rack enclosure...a for sure home run every time.

When I started playing kickball again as an adult, I was shocked at how much more difficult it was to kick the ball far than I had remembered.

mmmm...kickball.
We are having our fundraiser party on march 24, which should be cool.
Lots of new "kids" coming into the league this season, so we are having a party so people can meet and maybe make some friends to jump on a team.

There are two weeks of pickup games at the end of April, but I will be out of town.
our season 'officially' starts the 2nd wk of May.
We decided that we didn't want to wait for the season to officially start, so my team has challenged another team to play this weekend...even though its 40 degrees out and snow on the ground. We don't care.
This upcoming season is going to be great. Im very excited and plan on topping the burning of the goat head at the end of this season.

and Jack... go suck a fuck.
your thing is burning a man in front of thousands of people in a desert.
mine is burning goat heads in front of 400 drunks on a ballfield in Brooklyn.

I played kickball in grade school. I was the one of the top girl kickers. (nickname: leadfoot) Always over the heads of all the boys that would come close when a girl was kicking. they never learned.

Rollies or babybouncies?I was more of a rollies kinda kid.It was your best shot at really getting under the ball and kicking a homerun over everybody's head!

York (or i guess anyone that plays kb)
How big is the league that you play for?
Do you play for a league?
Is your league independent?
Do you play for WAKA?

Nando - I am just along for the ride, so I don't know all the details. Our coach went to a coaches meeting last night. Our league has 48 teams. I'm pretty sure it is WAKA, but I'm not positive.

I haven't played kickball since like 5th grade. I always got timid when it was my turn. I forget what the rules are...like baseball?

damn...48 teams is a lot of teams.
it might a be WAKA league. I ve heard the WAKA leagues are real strict about how games are run and player behavior, etc.

Menik...the rules are closer to softball than baseball.

Well, we certainly drink and yell and do stupid shit. It really depends on the ump and if you are playing a team with one of the comissioners on it.

Also, the league is divided into 4 divisions of 12.

york707

We are apparently not affiliated with WAKA.

it would be.
last year, they had an invitational in Brooklyn.
Toronto, Atlanta, DC, Providence, and some other cities showed up.
It was rather interesting.
Then they had an inter-city karaoke competition.
I think ATL won that.
I wasnt there.

Well, we started the season off yesterday with sunny skies and balmy high temperature of 36 degrees. The field was muddy and wet, with areas of standing water. I was a little nervous about our team, as the two people who were supposed to bring beer didn't. We can go ahead a pretend one of those people wasn't me. Fortunately, a phone call was made and beer was located and procured. The team started off last fall as a work-team, with signifcant others brought in as necessary. This season, it's spread out to significant others and friends of friends. I think it will be a better team; only about 50% of the team is from work.

As for the games, we started off a little rough, down1-0 for the first four innings. We managed a 4-1 lead, only to blow it in the top of the 7th, ending in a tie, 4-4. The second game was much better, with Scorgasm (yeah, that's us. I know.) winning 6-2. The sun had begun to set at the end of the game, so the temperature had dropped below the freezing mark and we had run out of beer.

All in all, not a bad start to the season. 1-0-1. At least we didn't lose. Next week should be better, with our legs under us, warmer weather, and more beer.

we tried to get started yesterday.
we had challenged a team called Karl Malone and the Mailmen, but they chickened out.
So, we went and of the 28 ppl on our team, about 12 showed up.
Random other kids that wanted to watch showed up, but unfortunately we didnt have enough people to make two teams.
We went and got drinks and I tried to get the grill started, but it was out of propane. I was furious because people werent showing up, it started to flurry and the grill wasnt starting and I had spent like $40 on burgers and food.
After about 3 hours, we decided it was too cold out, so we all drove back to my place (about 14 of us) bought some wine and beer and watched Shogun Assassin. My apartment has about 3 inches of sand on the floor from everyone's cleats and it stinks of food in here.

We are gonna try again for nxt week.

So we went 1-1 this weekend, but this was due, in all likelihood, to the fact that I was out of town and not contributing to the effort.

We also suffered a blow this week when the Powers That Be determined Scorgasm was not an appropriate name for the kickball team that is recieving the fruits of their check writing abilities. So, the name has been changed to Why Can't I Take This On The Field?

pick up games this weekend as i couldnt get my team, Kickball Fever, to get together to Brooklyn and practice.

We were short handed, so bullied these two 12 yr olds to play and then made them be captains. They were ok. Im way better. It made me feel good.

in grade school, there was a thai boy my age named Chachi Vang. Chachi, besides being the only asian in my school, could kick the ball a mile and a half.

I was always picked first in grade school. Kids would always moved out when I came up to kick. I broke my friend John's nose playing kickball. He was covering first base and I kicked the ball right to his face. His nose had been broken twice before. It was bleeding everywhere.
