From the Coachella main site:

State Route 60 to Eastbound I-10 Connector
A Travel Reminder for Coachella Music Fans

Caltrans wants to remind you that we’re working to improve the pavement on Interstate 10 (I-10) between
Calimesa and Beaumont. As part of this project, the eastbound SR-60 to eastbound I-10
connector is down to one lane. The 6th Street off-ramp from eastbound SR-60 to Beaumont is
also closed Monday morning through noon on Fridays. Traffic in this area of eastbound SR-60
can become congested, especially during commute hours, special events and on weekends.
Caltrans recommends using alternate routes for travel east of Calimesa. Please see the area
map below to plan your trip."

The above is my normal route from Newport and I'm sure many others go the same way, as well...looks like taking the 91 to the 10 will now be the new route, though.

Thanks, this is like the 3rd best thing I have ever seen on the board.

So were coming from San Francisco and Google has us picking up the 60 just east of downtown LA. We should be getting there around 8/9am (yeah, it fucking blows) so would u recommend taking the 10 the entire way or risking the 60?

Take the 5 to the 210 to the 10.

I went out to La Quinta a few weeks ago and it backed up a bit at the transition, but it wasn't that bad. Unfortunately with a lot more people heading out that way, this could be a major clusterfuck.

thanks for the help, i think ive taken the 210 as a shortcut to the 15 for Vegas and it worked well so ill have to try it again. And now I'm definitely going Lucky Boy in Pasadena for breakfast

I'm looking at google map right now and having a hard time figuring out where 5 hits 210. What city is that in?

Nevermind. Any suggestions on the best way to get to this route coming from Santa Barbara?

Guedita: My plan is 101 straight through to the 10 (101 sort of kind of becomes the 10 as it crosses the 5) interchange, and stay east on the 10 the whole way...

I don't like the 60, it never FEELS faster...

So if you're getting there around 8/9, the idea is to cut across LA before rush hour, and you're leaving SF around 10pm?

We are leaving SF at 7pm and should arrive at USC in dt LA to pick someone up around 2am. We'll most hangout at my friends apt for a bit, rest, and then leave for the desert at 9 or so to meetup with our camping group at 12.

Now that I saw the 210 runs through Pasadena tho, we are going to Lucky Boy for the greatest breakfast burrito of all time before heading out to Indio...backtracking a bit to get to the 210 and luckboy is worth it

For God's sake, change your flights now, or at least seriously read what this is saying about Monday.

and taking the 91 to the 10 only really adds a few minutes to the overall drive, it's not that far out of the way.

That was my initial plan, but I'm afraid I'll be hitting LA traffic directly (leaving Santa Barbara at 2). Would it be horrible in this area around 4-5 o clock?

Thanks for the alternative tip trip, Russell.

Thanks Steve, saved me from punching my dashboard due to bumper to bumper traffic not knowing why the hell this freeway merged into one lane.

I usually take the 91 to the 10, so it's not a big problem for me
