If they played - which they wont - I would think they would

I saw them do AJA last year at the Gibson. Was great. Coachella? Sure why not? And anyway, I am always game for one more "oldster" band on the bill just so I can read whiny forum posts from some of the punks 'round here.

I don't think Coachella is the right demographic for them, hipsters tend to have a pretty vigilant hatred toward them, although I'm not sure why.

It would rule to have them at the fest though.

Yes. Donald's voice is, as you would expect, fairly shot, but he still pulls it off. And the band... well Steely Dan were always mainly studio musicians. Some of the best in the business. And they still are. The drummer on the last tour (Keith Carlock) flawlessly reproduced all of Steve Gadd's original drum parts on AJA. It was pretty spectacular to see.

I saw them last year too and I agree. Keith Carlock keeps the band from limping into smooth jazz. He fuckin' rocks!!

I wouldn't have a problem with this, but it won't happen -- maybe at Bonnaroo.

Bonnaroo seems like a better atmosphere for them. I love Steely Dan and would love to see them anywhere but understand that Coachella might be pushing it.

Back when Steely Dan was popular, they were one of the few bands NOT to tour. That's when records actually made money. Now the only way to make money is tour & merchandise & try to sell quality DVDs, they are on the road.

Never say anything like this again. It makes you sound like you have no idea what you are talking about.

You have a lot of posts so you can't be that new. This is by far NOT the worst idea ever on this board.

my absolute favorite band from before i was born. possibly the reason i started playing music. i could see them coming on right after another classic headliner and drinking Cuervo into the wee morning...

steely dan are such talented musicians. donald fagen alone would be an incredible show. nobody plays the keys like that.

Agreed that Steely Dan are unique and Donald can still deliver the goods live. However, for this year Bonaroo has who I feel is the best pop/rock keys player in Stevie Wonder. Not to digress too far from topic but Stevie is the most talented old school keyboardist/singer on the planet.

I know a lot of people that adore them, hipsters included. I can't stand them, however.

Maybe you could learn. Plenty of bands I used to run around saying I hated and had no real reason. Now I know it was just me being an ass. You have no real reason to not like Steely Dan. And you know it. They write great songs and perform them well.

I think a lot of younger ppl are off-put by the singles they made ("Reelin' In The Years) but their albums are actually really great. "Aja" and "Can't Buy A Thrill" are 2 of my fav albums.

i feel like a paul mccartney solo set and a steely dan set would attract the same sort of crowd. i'd even venture to include prince, too.

people hate the idea, but walk away impressed. there's always other alternatives, being more than one stage, as well.

regardless, steely dan are touring this year and are making a stop in chicago around september, if i have it correctly, so they'll probably not be scouted anyways for next year.
