hoping for LCD Soundystem and Chemical Brothers as headliners.

CUT COPY! (I hope)

IDK if Them Crooked Vultures will be touring again by then (I know Queens is doing some fest gigs in August), but them and LCD Soundsystem would seem like a good guess.

that's a good bet, in terms of the 1/3 (+/-) of the more indie/EDM acts that are on the ACL bill. the past couple years, though, the overlap has been less. in 2007, i almost sold my ACL tix to attend TI Fest (which was the same w/e then, i think) because it had nearly every band i wanted to see at ACL and ones that i liked that weren't (and it was in my backyard). made the right choice in the end, though.

i love TI Fest for so many reasons: location, green shuttles, zero conflicts. and, for me, TI Fest lineup > OSL lineup (and cheaper).

Cut Copy is a good bet if they are touring. i don't see them doing a one-off, though. TCV is unlikely, imo.

LCD has to be the front-runner for the electronic day headliner at this point. Phoenix is possible, but I doubt they will still be touring by October

GeezrRckr
04-03-2010, 10:09 AM
god, i sure hope so....esp since i'll be out of town during that mysterious fillmore date that was thrown out earlier.

i'd be surprised if phoenix headlined, but then again...i was surprised that MGMT was the headliner last year so who knows.

who do people think will be the indie headliner?

I'd say pavement but the overlap from the june show could be too close. My Morning Jacket?

This is great news as I'd heard rumors that it wasn't happening in 2010... I should be living in the bay area by then so I'll definitely be attending. LCD or MMJ seem like definite headliner possibilities... either one would be above and beyond for the festival, I would be so happy.

Been reading the boards for a few years now and figured it was about time I chimed in on the conversation. Especially since Treasure Island Festival is growing to be one of my favorite festivals out there. Although I wish it would move back to September. Day 2 of last year was freezing.

That said, I think it is going to be LCD Soundsystem and Broken Social Scene as the two headliners.

LCD Soundsystem seems to be the running favorite here, and I'd agree.

Broken Social Scene is doing a short 4 date US tour in May and coming back in the Fall for a full North America tour. So it's seems like a good possibility.

It's likely that Cut Copy will make an appearance. They are doing one offs/festivals/colleges this Fall. http://www.windishagency.com/artists/cut_copy

That Windish Agency page is great, Royale.

I would also love for M83 to be there on the electronic day....and it says they're available for fall and "open to ideas."

dorkfish
04-03-2010, 02:53 PM
Keep in mind that the Windish (and other booking companies) availabilities are more conceptual than factual. Just because they desire to do things in the fall, they might find a whole list of reasons not to do so. It's pretty rare when tour plans fall in line with what their desired availability originally stated.

GeezrRckr

i prefer october. last year was abnormal. october is typically the best month of the year here.

enjoying a day of music in temperate sunshine & layering at night > suffering in 100 degree heat (w/99% humidity, if you're at ACL) & layering at night. just sayin'

Yep, and Arcade Fire playing would be too expensive for the festival, they dont have a million bucks to pay the band.

yes and no. I mean, if they wanted to play, APE would make it work. I'm sure that they'd prefer for them to play Outside Lands, though.

GeezrRckr
04-03-2010, 03:47 PM
agreed that they are too expensive for TI and that they'd more likely be at OSL (god, that would be rad!).

i'd be very surprised if AF can command $1M an appearance now. were you being serious, Chris, or just using that number to punctuate your point about TI not being able to afford them.

suprefan
04-03-2010, 03:58 PM
I think thats roughly what they are getting for each those festivals in Europe, how else do you get a band that doesnt want to play festivals, to perform? $$$

BTW MissingPerson had stated that The Libertines were reportedly getting 1.5 million (pounds) to play at Reading and Leeds. They arent even headlining, but AF is. I would think a headliner gets more than a sub, right? Wouldnt you play 2 shows for just over 2 million dollars?

The Windish Agency site has been pretty good about publishing accurate time frames for their artists tours. However, when they are looking for festivals or one off shows for their artists, as they're doing with Cut Copy in the Fall, it could mean they get a bunch of festivals/shows or none. They just state their availability.

It would be great to see Arcade Fire at TI, but I think there's a slim chance of that happening.

top of my head wishlist: blood red boots, the golden filter, besnard lakes, jonsi (won't happen), balthazar, four tet, pantha du prince, caribou, lykke li, new pornographers (longshot headliner...new LP, neko case), QOTSA, junkie xl, trans am, delorean, modeselektor, amon tobin (again), drop the lime, deerhoof,

headliners: lcd & band of horses

IMHO, an Arcade Fire would be much better fit at Treasure Island than OSL. I love both festivals, but they offer pretty different vibes, and I don't think Arcade Fire's show is really suited for OSL... pretty perfect for this one, though.

Actually, Windish jumps the gun, a lot. Cut Copy's current availability has changed three times since his last major tour, pushing it back further and further. Under his notes, it suggests that his next tour will likely be in 2011, as well.

I guarantee that Lollapalooza isn't paying them more than $500,000. Still, they're way too pricey for Treasure Island. The past headliners were Modest Mouse, the Raconteurs, and the Flaming Lips. You can book all three of those for less than it would cost to Arcade Fire.

Boourns
04-04-2010, 01:33 PM
Arcade Fire won't headline a fest with a mere 10,000 capacity anymore. There's no money in that.

MissingPerson
04-04-2010, 01:35 PM

GeezrRckr
04-05-2010, 09:34 PM
well, i'd like to see them there. but, it appears they want big $ for their shows now (Fox show was pricy!) and TI Fest's budget is pretty spartan. plus, their new LP is pretty shyte, so don't count on any bump from that helping matters either.

i just don't see it happening.

VicVinegar

I'm hearing, through a long line of acquaintances, that Belle & Sebastian will be headlining along with LCD Soundsystem.

GeezrRckr

VicVinegar
04-21-2010, 12:46 PM
I would be very surprised if B&S played, but that's what I'm hearing. And the source is reliable so I sort of believe it.

I don't think the Fillmore gig would have too much effect on LCD playing. The festival is four months after and I would think they would go out of their way to headline a fairly respected festival.

Also hearing Band of Horses, She & Him and the National will be there, but those seem pretty obvious.

suprefan
04-21-2010, 12:47 PM

Way in advance, it wouldnt matter much. You could assume that Treasure Island announces something officially a couple weeks after they play the SF dates though if LCD is on the bill.

GeezrRckr
04-21-2010, 12:56 PM
that would be cool. i'd love to see them at a fest again....and with a few more new songs thrown in.
BoH would be great. I'd rather see them there then pay $40+ to see them at the Greek. too bloody expensive, regardless of the venue. plus, their new one didn't grab me much on first listen.

throw in Booka Shade, The Golden Filter, Beach House, Sleigh Bells and Wye Oak and we have ourselves a party.

Stating the obvious here, but the fact that LCD Soundsystem is playing a single date at the Fillmore is a good sign they will be at Treasure Island. They could easily have sold out three days at The Fillmore.

Miike Snow were supposed to be at Treasure Island last year, but it didn't work out and they played Bottom Of The Hill as their SF date. I hope they play this year.

has the CC HARD show sold out?

my hunch is the way most fests work is that they book the talent pretty far in advance so whether or not, say, CC sold out their Fox show wouldn't make any difference. at least i know this is how they do things for Coachella and OSL (from personal conversations with talent). being that TI is a smaller fest, this rule may not apply, but i suspect it still does. for sure for the international talent that needs to deal with US Immigration to get a work visa.

Awesome. Just those bolded acts would probably get me to go. But Clare and the Reasons would be sick for a noon slot or something. My Brightest Diamond would also be great, as she was last year.

Broken Social Scene is doing a short 4 date US tour in May and coming back in the Fall for a full North America tour. So it's seems like a good possibility.

guedita
05-17-2010, 10:38 PM
Well, LCD being at ACL makes me think they are a lock for TI to close out their tour.

Borrowing from ACL for Saturday I'll guess:
deadmau5 (I would not be at all surprised)
MIA headlining
Ozomatli
The Very Best
Miike Snow

Sunday:
Monsters of Folk
The Black Keys
Girls (San Francisco band)
Band of Horses
The Strokes headlining

here's my guesses for crossover:
foals (please, please)
bear in heaven (APE promoting their Rickshaw show)
miike snow (two sold out shows at Indy)
beach house (please)
deadmau5 (maybe to headline the electronic day)
local natives
spoon (maybe to headline the indie day; hope not, but maybe)

that's all i have for now. sure you guys will fill in the gaps. i just can't wait for the announcement. gonna be good.

sleepybrew
05-17-2010, 11:14 PM
if MIA is there, i'll be leaving early and the undercard better be great.

the Black Keys are playing at the fox at the end of Sept, would that disqualify them?

and as much as i think the Strokes would be fun, i think they are to big for TI. Flaming Lips may be a more important and more influential than the strokes, but FL were the biggest headliner in the festival's history and i don't see the fest continuing to up the ante after smaller headliners such as MGMT, Justice and Raconteurs have set such a precedent

Saturday
LCD Soundsystem
Deadmau5

I'm not the biggest fan of Deadmau5, but it's been awhile since he's played in San Francisco, and he's not stopping here on his upcoming North America tour this summer.

Sunday
The Strokes
Broken Social Scene

Boourns
05-18-2010, 01:23 AM
I think M.I.A. is too big now for a fest like this, especially if LCD is playing the same day. Unless one of them headlines the "rock" day... Phoenix would be an appropriate headliner, but they're playing OSL.

What about...

Saturday:
LCD Soundsystem
deadmau5
UNKLE
Miike Snow
Ratatat
Kid Cudi
Little Dragon

Sunday:

Metric
Belle & Sebastian

Caribou

Good to know; I honestly don't know what the travel protocol is for a upper-echelon indie band like the National. You know, a band that's wildly successful for their place in the world, but still probably won't be renting a private jet any time soon. My thinking was more directed towards transportation of their gear.

Phantogram's music has been kinda hit or miss for me...

Phantogram was awesome at Sasquatch, so much so, that my group and I waited in a good sized line of newly converted fans who wanted to meet them at their artist signing. It was well worth it, especially considering they were such nice people, plus the girl is beautiful. I'm very jealous of those of you who get to see them open for The xx, they will complement each other nicely. We asked them when they would be touring again and they said to expect to see them again in CA in the Fall, so an early slot on TIs second stage would be great.

Well, if Panda Bear plays SF, it would probably be right before the Portland date (9/8) since he's playing Hopscotch in NC on 9/10. I doubt that he'd play the weekend before and just stay in the area for a week waiting for Portland.

ah. yeah, forgot about hopscotch. that also probably eliminates atp ny from the equation.

Fuck I can't wait to move up there, if only for the shows right now. I guess Sleep is going to play a homecoming show that first or second week of September too.

Lineup was announced July 10th last year for what it's worth.

How much were tickets last year? Ballpark.

Edit:

100 to 120. Very reasonable.

The earlybird tickets sold out within hours or something last year. I'm going to be on top of it this year.

I was just trying to help... I didn't mean it in a douchey way.

Oh, neither did I. Your post and my edit were at the same time.

No worries, baby.
