This is my first Coachella and also my first time out west. Spring time usually kills me up here in Michigan with everything blooming and it takes a ton of OTC meds just to keep me going day to day. I really dont want it to hinder my whole experience out there. Is pollen and stuff pretty bad out there this time of year and does anyone have any suggestions on how to cope with it?

I havent been before, but one of the things that everyone says to bring is benydryll so my best guess would be yes. I would just prepare for it, better safe then sorry I'd say.

I'd bring some Claritin anyway. Being in a different environment may trigger different kinds of allergies you otherwise weren't aware of.

Bring a bandana and goggles for the walk back to your car. Dust is crazy bad.

Also, a whirly-gig on your head helps.

Oh jesus- get ready to battle your allergies all weekend. Mine are fucking horrible. Take whatever OTC you usually take consistently, netti pot or whatever daily to flush everything out, one year they were selling some drink for colds and sore throats- that stuff helped me tremendously. Bandana for the dust in lots, fluids, lots of medication.

I think it depends on what you are actually allergic to. Mold and pollen destroy my sinuses on the east coast, but I have NO problems at Coachella. The dryness can be a little irritating but that's because I'm used to a more humid climate. Bring your otc stuff and a netti pot just in case.

Thats what gets me here too. I have been to other festivals where it was really dusty and never had any problems. Its only in the spring time when everything is blooming.

I picked up a netti pot last night after reading a few things on the forums here.

The coachella valley is renowned for funneling winds up from the ocean (you will see massive windmill-electricity generator farms near the fest) and this whips sand and dust up from the desert, which combines with the dust kicked up from hundreds of feet and tires in the parking lot to make it VERY DUSTY. Bring loads of allergy meds (I'd recommend various drug types) and LOTS OF KLEENEXES (bring them into the festival with you as the toilet/portapotty facilities supply hand sanitizer only, no paper towels or anything) and be prepared to see PURE BLACK FILTH when you blow your nose.

That said, while the dust in the parking lot and onsite campground is quite horrible, once you actually enter the festival site it is not nearly so bad. The festival grounds are situated on a well-kept polo field which means beautiful green grass with very little dirt/dust kickup. SO my advice is, if you are chilling in the campground and your allergies are acting up, GO INTO THE FESTIVAL EARLY (ie. noon or earlier). Don't wait for your fave acts, head on in, this advice is also great for the heat because while the campground is generally exposed to the sun, within the festival grounds there are massive tents under which you can find cool shade, as well as water spritzers in the Do Lab. Plus you might see some great act you hadn't heard of. Also for anyone who was at Pemberton festival in 2008, the dust at Coachella is a walk in the park.

Oh yeah you will be quite filthy so it is worth it to brave the shower lines for your allergies' sake.
If you are not planning on camping onsite then I wouldn't worry about your allergies.

I agree with 50% of everything you said. They regularly water the dirt roads to keep the dust down. I have allergies (grass, pollen, etc.) and they are no worse at Coachella - all depends on what you are allergic to. Use common sense but don't worry about this - not that big of a deal.

take your zyrtec and you'll be fine. Lay off the benedril unless you also have some amphetamines.

I've been having trouble this year in Arizona when allergies usually don't bother me. I'll be picking up some Claritin because I fear if it's bad here, it will be bad there. Damn orange groves.

I will be on Zyrtec, Mucinex, and Benadryl all weekend. Between my normal allergies, the dust, the smoke (yes, even outdoors), and whatever whore perfume anyone near me uses, I will be sniffling all weekend.

My allergies have been going OFF the last week or so here in L.A.

Prepare to see me with a bulging, pulsating, blood-red left eyeball on Friday

http://www.pollen.com/

Indio's zip code is 92201... you can compare it with the pollen counts for your area (also it shows which plants are producing the most pollen on a given day, which is potentially helpful if you happen to know which plants you're the most allergic to)

Not a good year for allergies in the Arizona desert. Such a wet winter, the flowers are going nuts. Brittlebush exploding on desert mountainsides everywhere. Gorgeous but man the pollen. I expect Indio is much the same.
