Arcade Fire, HAH. Not even comparable to Pavement. Af have released two great albums, neither of which are comparable to Pavement's first two albums. It's sad people just cream over arcade fire and probably haven't heard all that much of Pavement.

Or alternatively, have heard or own every album by both artists and just prefer Arcade Fire.

Yes McCabe, technically you are correct. But, the only reason the "Silver Jews vs. Wolf Parade" thread was started was because of the Pavement tilt in the initial post. My point is that it's absurd to compare a band with one album (Wolf Parade) to a very well established band. I like Wolf Parade (though the Modest Mouse influence can be too much at times) and like spencer Krug's other side projects as well, but I say a more appropriate post would be "Arcade fire vs. Wolf Parade"...

And Courtney, I'm with you on this. Pavement vs. Arcade fire is a no-brainer to me.

mountmccabe
02-25-2007, 06:34 PM
Silver Jews are a great band. Berman is an intruiging lyricist and the music is great, often tending towards the soft, pretty and folky. People should listen to Silver Jews. But they shouldn't go in thinking of Pavement or even Malkmus' solo records. I can't imagine that there'd be much correlation between liking Pavement/Malkmus and liking Silver Jews.

Well, maybe only because fans of Pavement were more likely to check out Silver Jews expecting them to sound the same. Some of these people will get past that and enjoy Silver Jews but the others will mostly come away annoying and badmouthing them.

mountmccabe
02-25-2007, 06:44 PM
And DeltaSig, if you're serious then Pavement were a 90s indie rock band. Hell, they were arguably THE 90s indie rock band. They garnered attention before Guided By Voices and I, for one, wouldn't count the Sonic Youth of the 90s (or since) as a indie band. And I don't know who else would be in contention, really.

Slanted and Enchanted was released in 1991 and is wild, shambolic, cheaply recorded and wonderful. Their sound slowly moved towards where Stephen Malkmus' solo records are now; in my mind they're all good records. Give a listen to that first disc for something really crazy or maybe Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain.

I honestly can't believe Arcade Fire is leading this poll. I've lost all faith in humanity at this point. Next, we just do a poll on who's the better guitarist, Jimi Hendrix or John Mayer...

A) the board is predominantly youngin's who only began appreciating music after the second boy band era.

B) for god's sake please edit that post to place more space between Hendrix and Mayer, or better yet please remove Jimi from being associated with this entire thread.

I want a range life, if I could settle down,
If I could settle down, then I would settle down."

Sir Vinyl, after you mentioned "Range Life", I listened to the damn song on repeat for an hour. Then I listened to "Soiled Little Filly" for another 30 minutes, then I just put the damn playlist (Crooked Rain: LA Desert Origins) on repeat for my sleeping time. I woke up and "Ell Ess Two" was playing. So naturally, i had to break out Malkmus solo to listen to "Jennifer and the Ess-Dog"... Honestly, the results of this poll make me want to go on a shooting spree. And I really like Arcade Fire.

Arcade Fire have been in the studio since summer, so they're in the fairly advanced recording stages. They had Owen Pallett work out some string arrangements with them a few weeks ago, and finished recording those arrangements in New York with some folks from Juilliard the day before yesterday.
