Suggestions - anything really. We arrive LAX in the afternoon and will be hungry for something that isn't Applebees.

Maybe something landmark, but good?

Suggest away.

Whenever I go to LA I have to hit The Whaler in Venice Beach. They have these bacon wrapped shrimp that are damn near orgasmic. In fact my girlfriends and I renamed them orgasmic shrimp. It is right on the beach, cute waitresses, good beer and a nice patio. And I don't think it is really that far from LAX if I remember my driving correctly. Isn't LAX on Sepulvida (sp?) somewhere between Redondo and Venice Beach?

You're all being silly.

If you're going to be in Los Angeles, get Mexican food. It's pretty much the only fucking kind of food you're possibly going to pursue that's done significantly better in Southern California than anywhere else. Personally I like a joint called El Compadre's in Hollywood off Sunset. Other recommendations are bound to vary. But making your one meal in LA something else is just dumb.

If you haven't used Yelp yet, that will be your friend. LA is so spread out it will be easier finding what you want somewhere around the location you'll be staying in

There's a million and a half great little Thai spots all over LA. I can recommend a few if you are staying around the valley.

Korean BBQ is a must if you don't get that in Ohio

Sushi = Sushi Nozawa in Studio City - worth the drive. Inside is a dive but his sushi is amazing. You don't order it just comes until you tell them to stop.
Tito's Tacos - near airport. Good. Cheap. Institution.
In-n-Out Burger - can't go wrong
Pink's - another cheap LA institution corner of Wilshire and La Brea
(DO NOT do the Stinking Rose - awful and you'll smell like garlic all weekend)
The Lobster - great seafood spot right at the Santa Monica Pier. Good food. Ocean views.
And, of course, Spago in Beverly Hills...star sightings likely

Also, when you get close to Palm Springs off Hwy 10 right at the entrance to the outlet mall (on the west side) there's an amazing outdoor taco stand with the best tacos ever called Crazy Coyote or something. Highly recommend.

Sorry so long. I travel to LA all the time for business. Plus food and music are my 2 vices. Scotch, Gin and ganja are close behind.

Boy I read a few customer reviews of The Animal. I think my mouth is watering. Talk about great reviews. This one cracked me up a bit though:

BF ordered the sweetbreads, creamed spinach, capers and hedgehog dish and we both had no idea what it REALLY was. When it arrived, I looked at it with a lack of interest. He dug in right away, told me it was good and offered me a piece. I had a taste and made a WTF face. I didn't even finish the bite. It tasted funky, and the texture was chewy, yet weird. I asked him what sweetbreads was, since it didn't taste like bread. He decided to look it up and it was so gross, I almost barfed.

Monk, btw, Colorado has better mexican food then LA.

El Compadre is really good. I love their flaming margarita. El Cholo is slightly better, in my opinion. They have better enchiladas and the meat dishes I've had were better, and they have better margaritas. Parking at the El Cholo in K-Town can be tough, although it can also be tough to park at the El Compadre in Hollywood. That said, there's an El Compadre in Elysian Park that is better than the Hollywood one.

Oh, and you should at least think about going to Baby Blues BBQ. It's a fantastic little BBQ place in Venice that gets all sorts of recognition for its awesomeness.

It should also be noted that Fathers Office isn't open during the day.

You probably dont like Fathers Office that much because you cant change what you order until they give it to you and take off whatever you dont like.

Umami's burgers are pretty good, but the ones I've tried were both a little too runny for my likes. I like a juicy burger, but covering it in watery sauces and sloppy tomatoes makes it a bit much to try to handle. They tasted great though.
