Believe me I wanted to stay for Boys Noize but I had family stuff to do early this morning. My buddy who stayed said Boys Noize was awesome. Diplo introduced Boys Noize as his cousin, which confused a lot of people.

You both get a :nono

How could you not be prepared?! It was cold and wet all day.

had boys noize not been at coachella, we would have stayed. but since we'll get another set at a much better stage, we said fuck it. and i probably would have been fine if it hadn't been for that little hole on the sole of my right shoe. i didn't even know it was there...and the left one was fine. oh well...this could have been sooo much better, had it been last weekend or today. it would have been warmer at night, no rain, probably could have done slides today and definitely could have last weekend with 100 degree weather.

i will give myself a :nono as well tho...we weren't glad to leave early, but were just getting way to wet/cold and didn't want to get sick before coachella. that would have been even worse than leaving early.

Sound Blizzard

Had a great time. Was cold and rainy for the first hour or so but it then cleared up and was fine. First was cut Chemist. I thought the first half of his set was total garbage. The second half of the set was completely different and much better. Mixed dead prez "Hip Hop" and "shook ones".

Porter Robinson. Wow. Tore the place up. Never heard of this guy before but he was impressive. I knew a lot of the tracks he was dropping but it was the way he was mixing them. Just teasing the crowd with the drops. He starts bringing in DP's "one more time" and at the normal drop brings in some other track with some nasty dirty bass. then he brings it back and does it again. He's doing shit like this his whole set , very impressive mixing skills. The crowd was in a frenzy for most of his set and I loved it.

After that I was at the Dnb Stage the rest of the night basically. I would have loved to check out some of Boys Noize set but, friends came late at about midnight. Met us over at POD and there was like 10 of us just gettin down to some seriously rad DnB and I just couldn't leave. Its been quite some time since I have been to a good DnB show and I was just having a blast. (Sorry no review on Boys Noize Dylan)

The production value as far as the stages was great by AZ standards. I do agree the sound was a little on the weak side though. All in all a very good show I thought.

i wanted to go, but the coldness, wind & rain kept me from going. if i had bought an advance ticket, i might have made it out, but i choose to spend my money on kites earlier in the day instead. and i stand by my choice.

We got to Aquachella(!) around 7:30 and were completely miserable. But it stopped raining around 8 pm and we watched Cut Chemist put on a brilliant set of his own productions and remixes. Porter Robinson was not thrilling although a lot of people were there by then and got caught up with him. We took that time to explore the park and hang around.

Spank Rock and Amanda Blank were ok. Diplo was predictable as always but still had us dancing and jumping around. Boys Noize was sick as hell. So much raw energy and the sound was near perfect.

I was totally prepared to hate on this party but really couldn't. Great main stage and pretty decent sound when you stood mid-way between the stage and soundboard. Everyone in my crew said you couldn't hear Eliot Lipp over the sound from the main stage so I didn't even go to the side stage the whole night. The only thing that sucked was the $4 bottles of water. And the strange bleach substance on our shoes.

Dear Arcade Fire,

I'm sorry the crowd sucked ass tonight. I'm sorry that you had to tell us multiple times to rock out, dance, and have a good time. I danced, yelled, clapped, and had a great time throughout the entire show. It's too bad that the majority of the people in the venue just stood there and had not a fuckin' clue as to what was happening in front of them.

I'm sure you decided that halfway through the set that you weren't ever going to come back and I can't blame you. Just know that there are some people here that can have a good time at a concert and appreciate your efforts and talents. I'm looking forward to being in a crowd at Coachella that will actually appreciate the show and let you know it. To the minority that tried to have a good time, thank you. To the majority that just stood there, next time stay the fuck home. You don't deserve to go to such a good show.

Yours Truly,
Micah

It's hard for some fans to rock out in Comerica/Dodge Theatre, but the venue does not provide a sufficient excuse to sit there with your thumb up your ass while perhaps the best live show Phoenix will see this entire year is right in front of you.

Complaining will get us nowhere, but I felt so embarrassed when Win kept begging everyone to at least nod their heads or dance in the aisles.

The more I've thought about this the more this has irritated me. It's the entertainer's job to please the crowd, not vice versa. The crowd sat there like they were watching TV because it sounded like a TV. Win, you want folks to act like it's a rock show? Turn the fucking volume up so that it sounds like a rock show.

I don't exactly know what to say but the show I saw tonight at the Rhythm Room was about the most fun I have EVER had at a local show and I don't want that to sound like an overstatement. I don't know how after three days in the desert and returning exhausted I managed to sing, dance and mosh all god damn night but I did and it was everything I had ever hoped a Titus Andronicus show would be and that doesn't take away from their great Coachella performance but this was something different. I don't even think it was sold out but the energy from the crowd and the fans is nothing you see on a regular basis in Phoenix. Amy the violinist who seems to rarely speak but always smile came to the mic to say 'this was the most fun I have had during this entire tour' and she was damn near giddy when she said it. The band several times made mention to how much they adore playing Phoenix and how they love how punk rock the crowd in Phoenix always is. They embrace it and they must have played about 4 punk covers during their 90+ minute set. Singing, chanting, dancing, moshing and embracing strangers all night long as this celebration was one no one wanted to end but singer Eric Harm said they didn't really know any other songs at that point.

The Rhythm Room is probably my favorite venue in Phoenix, it's an intimate venue with some of the best sound in town. I need to sleep now as I have to get up in about 5 hours but this was a beautiful ending to a wonderful weekend of music.

I think it will sell out, just not months in advance. I say this for a few reasons: 1. Every single one of their other shows have sold out.
2. It's on a Friday.
3. No Tucson show. A ton of people will be driving up for this.

Yeah, it really doesn't look like that big a deal from anything I've seen, but somebody's suggested Win "attacked" a photographer's camera and all the photogs are up in arms about it. Seems to me that if Win Butler attacked anybody's anything onstage at in front of a couple of thousand people it would have surfaced a bit sooner?

I know he definitely did have words with one dude, and had the others kicked out early, but that's a long way from actually attacking him.

Yeah, it really doesn't look like that big a deal from anything I've seen, but somebody's suggested Win "attacked" a photographer's camera ...

not meaning to be an a-hole in quoting myself:

the photographer lifted his camera really close to Win's guitar. Win got pissed, gave him the bird, almost hit the photographer in the face with his guitar, and then proceeded to tell him to get the eff out.

i was in the pit, about 4 people back in the center. directly after the photographer got really close to Win's guitar, Win actually took a swipe at the camera. and i should amend my comment in saying that Win almost *poked* the photographer in the face with his guitar, not hit him with it (which could, in fact, imply attacking him).

photographer got close-->Win swiped the camera-->Win gave bird-->Win almost pokes photographer-->Win tells him to gtfo-->photographer leaves-->fin.

There's a spot called The Quincy downtown (called such because it's owned by a guy named Quincy - it's off of 16th st & McDowell) which does frequent after parties - I haven't been in ages, since I'm an old lady and rarely stay up that late any more, but they seem to have something just about every weekend. Some of the Sub:conscious people are involved, so there's usually some sort of D&B - Dehga seems to play there frequently. If you add Jason Ayers on Facebook (you can find him on my list), he usually posts about what's going on.

Otherwise, there hasn't been anything to my knowledge since the last Sub:con event at Bar Smith.

Okay, so I guess that there is a more Jungle oriented event going on at The Black & Tan on June 4th. Starts at 10p, $10 at the door. Bizzy B, with locals Kipp-Killigan, DeepFreq, JonBoy, & Nappe. I can't figure out how to link the flyer, because Facebook's new picture gallery system blows. But, it's also on Jason's page somewhere.

You should also like this on Facebook - if there's a D&B event in Phoenix, it will be posted there: http://www.facebook.com/#!/SubConsciousDNB

Aaaaaaaand, that's all I've got.

well, i'm sure you heard "brick" in high school "she's a brick and i'm drowning slowly, off the coast and i'm getting nowhere".

he's extremely talented. plays piano. but if you were to youtube, here's what i'd recommend as some of my personal favourites:

narcolepsy
bastard
cigarette
annie waits
landed
his live cover of champagne supernova cause it's fucking hilarious

also, youtube "ben folds chat roulette" pretty funny. i essentially think this is the most perfect man alive. he's hilarious, talented, and can make me cry.

i also started looking at setlists, but then stopped myself. i really don't want to get my hopes up for this show like i did for the ben folds five show in 1999 that i missed. i saw a few covers and ben folds five songs he does and decided just not to look any further because now i want them too lol.

I saw him open for Tori Amos years ago and he puts on a great show. I never really listened to any of his full albums but he was definitely good live. I've seen Tori dozens of times over the years and he's one of the only openers that was quality.

dirty vegas put on a great show last night @ rhythm room. it was my first time at the venue and its a great little space; amazing sound for what seems like a tiny blues club.

steve smith was overly energetic for the entire set, bouncing and jumping around on the stage with every song. got most of the place dancing and didn't cop out just because it was probably a crowd of MAYBE 50 people. set was a little heavy on material from their newest album, but it all sounded great. they played just about every song i'd want to hear from them.

band stayed around afterward to sign albums and chat with the fans; my girlfriend (who was ecstatic to see them) got a picture with all 4 of the guys. good night, i hope to see them again.

to be fair, their career was basically destroyed from the start with that single. they're pretty underrated imho. their first 2 albums are chock full of competent synthpop/dance music; catchy tunes that might be lacking in substance but "have a beat and you can dance to it". the newest is a little more 80s rock, clearly influenced by the recent "dance punk" boom.

i don't know about relevance, but how relevant are most of the artists that get attention on these boards? *shrug*

plus i really like steve smith's voice.

oh i totally agree. dirty vegas playing rhythm room in phoenix, az? i thought my gf was joking when she told me about it. i kept checking leading up to the show to make sure dirty vegas wasn't some new 3-piece blues act and someone had made a huge mistake in promoting a defunct early 2000s dance act.

Its funny how songs can bring you back like that. Sometimes they bring back memories you would have never remembered again until you hear a specific song.

Days go by - Dirty Vegas

Went down to Tucson for a desert party. Couldn't find the place for a while. Once we did find it , it was late , maybe around midnight. We parked so far away we could just hear the distant pulse of the bass. The stars were unbelievably bright that night, you could see the Milky Way which I wasnt used to because of all the light pollution in Phx. As we got a little closer and could actually make out the music Days go by was playing. I just remember walking up and seeing all the people dancing and I felt unbelievably happy. What a good night

I think it will later than sooner. Who knows though... Arizona is weird in that regard. Here's what I wrote on the matter last month:

I think it will sell out, just not months in advance. I say this for a few reasons: 1. Every single one of their other shows have sold out.
2. It's on a Friday.
3. No Tucson show. A ton of people will be driving up for this.

EDIT* Also, I feel like I've been hearing Zonoscope everywhere.

It should be interesting whether he does a DJ set or one of his live shows. My money is on DJ set but given these live sets are what he's been doing recently it's anybody's guess:

******************************

O: What can we expect from Drop the Lime live? Is the performance an extension of the DJ set or is it an entirely new approach?

DTL: Entirely new approach. I’m on guitar and singing, there are two back up singers who swing dance together and with me, and there’s a live drummer. We keep the set clubby, and energy flowing the same way I tend to build my DJ sets, but it’s definitely more of a concert, versus a straight up DJ event.

I saw Live again when they were back in 09(?), for nostalgia's sake, and it was just.... kind of sad.

Really? I have to admit that I only got in to his music within the last couple of years. He was here right around the time I really started listening to it, actually. Which was a huge part of the reason I wanted to go.

Kind of a bummer that he's not good live. I mean, he is 70 though so I'm sure he's not what he used to be...

I don't think I even paid attention to the concert line up last year. Too funny that Snoop is on the same day.

I know that the fair circuit has always pretty much been considered the place where once popular performers go to die, but I've actually seen some good shows at the fair (true story: my First Concert Ever was Peter Paul & Mary at the state fair when I was like 5, and my First Concert Ever By My Own Choosing was Live* at the fair in 99).

*I was 16 and had a crush on Ed Kowalczyk. Don't hate.

My first show ever was The Beach Boys at the state fair.

LOL

my first show was Green Day......at the FAIR! hahahah

it must be the one place that parents were ok with letting kids go for their first time.

Also, I was there one day when I was in high school, and Hanson was performing, and I almost went... you know, for the lulz. But, I resisted because I didn't want people to think that I was seriously there to see Hanson. And also because it was at the same time as the demolition derby, and watching cars run in to each other > Hanson. Even for the lulz.

My first show was Alanis Morissette/Tori Amos at America West Arena. I was a little older, though, 19. True fact: that was the second Phoenix-area performance of Ms. Morissette's I had purchased but my parents didn't let me go to the first one (back in 1996). They didn't like her (lyrics were too risque) so my master plan was to "spend the weekend" at my friend's to get out of the house, sneak off to Greyhound, somehow pay for a ticket and navigate my way to the show without a debit card. Oh, and then get back without them being any the wiser. And I would've gotten away with it, too, if I wasn't for my meddling dad eavesdropping on my phone calls.

That Nirvana show was my first. I remember listening to the first Kid Rock album on the way there. It was all gangsta rap. It was the first show of the In Utero tour with Mudhoney. Nirvana opened with Heart Shaped Box and closed the show with Cobain jumping into the crowd. We got stuck in the bleacher seats and as soon as the lights went down we rushed past a big security guard and ran onto the floor.

The best Kiss show I've ever seen was also at the fair. No big stage show. Just a great set list of songs they don't usually play on tour. Opened with Creatures of the Night. They played Parasite, She, Lick it Up, Heavens on Fire. Bruce Kulick on guitar and Eric Singer on drums. The next time I saw them was on the first reunion tour with Ace and Peter and I didn't think it was as good as the fair show.

Scratch tour at the Cajon House. Dj Z-trip - Dj Swamp and Dilated peoples w/ Dj BaBu. Best hip hop show Ive ever been to. So much fun. REAL hip hop right there. I'm definitly down for a Dilated show. Hopefully its not just Evidence, he tours solo a lot.

Mine was Oingo Boingo at the fair...but I was 18.

Living in a small town, it was tough. Phoenix was 4 hours away and Vegas was 3. I almost went to the U2 show at Sun Devil Stadium that is in Rattle & Hum, but wound up having to wait until college. And even then, I had to take a bus to Phoenix because I didn't have a car until my second semester.

That was amazing, and very intimate. (It was only about a third full, more like a small theater show.)

I might go hit up the Meat Puppets at the Clubhouse. I hate the venue, but they put on a great show in Houston last time I saw them about 3 or 4 years ago. It was one of the first shows with Chris back on bass and you could tell he was very eager to play again.

My partial solution to the clubhouse is getting tanked at Horse and Hound before the show. Cheaper drinks and stronger pours.
