Wow, Arizona landed Gorillaz? I'm sure those are going to be exorbitantly priced. Man, the end of October is just stacked, isn't it?

sin213
07-27-2010, 08:56 AM
nah...i'd bet tix will be in the $50-75 range...max.

it won't be bad.

Gribbz
07-27-2010, 08:58 AM
I think they'll be lower than $50. We'll see...

Also, I wonder how fast Jonsi will sell out. I assume it will eventually... Marquee isn't that big.

Gorillaz at the Dodge? I'm guessing $60..

I'm hoping to get on the guest list for the Marquee show and to purchase a ticket for the L.A. Wiltern show on Friday. I'll see how my plan goes.

Gribbz
07-27-2010, 09:32 AM
I'm thinking the Wiltern show will sell out relatively fast... who knows though.

faxman75
07-27-2010, 09:36 AM
I got lucky, some sales must not have gone through. I have a Wiltern ticket now. I would have stuck to just seeing him at the Marquee but i'm already going to be in Pomona that weekend for The National so I figured I might as well stick around.

liquidsnake28
07-27-2010, 09:40 AM
They're overcharging by 28 dollars.

You would have to pay me at least $30 to sit through another Michael Franti show.

I swear he's played unopposed, to a silent festival, for at least 3, probably 4 that I've gone to. I can't escape that motherfucker and he fucking sucks.

westcoastpirate

I know it's so crazy that Gorillaz are playing Phoenix. Not that I would go, but wow, definitely didn't think Phoenix would be a tour stop.

RE: Gorillaz at the Dodge -- I paid ~$80 before fees for the Cure at that venue back in 2008. Yeah, it was the 2nd highest price level, but still. And I feel that $75, if that were to be the high end, woud be exorbitant for that show. Especially since that would turn it into a $250-300 show (what with 2 tickets + fees + dinner/drinks beforehand). I don't have any doubts they'll have cheap tickets available, it's just those will be the shitty ones. I had a shitty spot for Gorillaz already, don't need that again.

Are you kidding?! That would mean missing Rodrigo y Gabriela and then flying to L.A. to see The Chems!

yeah, all breaks, very nice. there were excellent remixes of "something i can never have" and "bombs of baghdad" played by dagnasty.

the sound was alright. i never know much about sound though. the crowd was cool, in that i knew at least half of the people there. it was weird though, they had a bathtub in the club, but it was never "used". they also had a metal circle thing that looked like it was for aerialists, but it was also not used. also, i now want to be an aerialist.

so...i'm working on a deal to get a suite for the Gorillaz show at the Dodge thru my company. i'm still trying to get the actual details, such as cost and what is included...but the tix shouldn't be more than the top tier cost (pit/lower) and should include free VIP parking, VIP entrance and access to VIP bar (not comp, just shorter lines). plus anyone that wants to get tix thru this offer, they guaruntee that we will all be in the same suite. the suites are the private boxes against the back wall of the dodge (view: http://seatingcharts.livenation.com/ballena/2231/ & choose suite level from dropdown)

anyone want in on this, if i can make it happen? i'm just trying to get a count for now and will follow up with you before the actual on sale (8/6) with more details...

October 20th, Azure Ray and Tim Fite

Tim Fite is a madman.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3171/3026678206_96c37a53b3_z.jpg

I have only caught him twice - at Plush in 2005 and at Fun Fun Fun Fest in 2008 - and he has always been fantastic.

Azure Ray are nice and mellow and I wouldn't mind seeing them either but the show is worth it just for Tim Fite.

The death crew 77 is when they have the drummer and guitar. From what I've seen from videos it seems like they play similar stuff as their dj sets but with instruments.

Seemed a little cheesy to me at first but it's growing on me.

It wasn't that bad (GooGoo Dolls, since the link is broken now.) I actually like the songs the bass player sings...reminds me of their early days when they were just a Replacements ripoff. I don't know why those songs aren't the radio singles instead of all the dreary ballads. And even the ballads weren't that bad, except for "Name", which I thought was done by Matchbox 20, and is even worse than I remembered.

The real shock was Switchfoot, which I assumed to be a Creed/Nickelback/Puddle Of Mudd level pile of shit, but were merely a slightly dull U2-style-anthem-wannabe act that approached entertainment a few times. I suppose this should be in the Confessions thread, but what the fuck...it was free.

No you don't, because I said they were tolerable. They were not the band I thought they were. The singer was annoying in his effort to turn everything into an anthem to change the world. But he sang his ass off, and the band was competent, and some of the songs were moderately catchy. I would never listen to them again on purpose, but the 45 minutes I spent with them did not make me suicidal.

EDIT- "Name" was definitely the worst song I heard all night.

I have my ticket for Autolux, Menonoma/Soft Pack/Suckers and I wanna get tickets for Sleepy Sun and Pixies and maybe the Walkmen/Japandroids. The comes October and Caribou/Emeralds (still need a ticket,) Land of Talk and the National/Owen Pallett, Azure Ray/Tim Fite (still need a ticket) and Jonsi... and maybe Frightened Rabbit and Built to Spill! November even starts strong with Deerhunter, Joanna Newsom, and Delorean.

I had no idea Pharoah Monch was from Organized Confusion. I had both OC albums in high school. I saw Monch at Celebrity Theater on the Spitkicker Tour about 10 years ago, and he tore it up. Talib Kweli + Hi Tek were also there (it was right after the release of the 1st Reflection Eternal album), De La Soul, Common, and Biz Markie. That was a fun night.

I thought Menomena were all right last night. I was glad they played "TAOS" early because that's the only song of their's that I've connected with in any way. I've given them a fair amount of listens and now about 30 minutes of live time and they still leave me blah for the most part.

I thought the Soft Pack sounded worse than at Coachella. They didn't seem to want to be there, or anywhere for that matter. They were out of tune and the slide guitar work (forget the song name) was some of the worst I've ever heard. They were fun/forgettable at Coachella, they were almost bad last night at the Clubhouse. It is the end of their tour, for the record.

Suckers were fantastic. They sounded even better than on their record, they were engaging and funny and energetic. Definitely the best band I saw last night. Can't wait for 'em to come back, headling say the Rhythm Room!

I got there after Tu Fawning finished. It was a good sized crowd, not sold out but in that 500+ range.

I have them on my "see" list for ACL in a few weeks. Maybe I should go check out Those Darlins instead? I don't know anything about them at all, but

Those Darlins' curious mix of classic country punk and ragged garage rock makes them one of a kind, eliciting comparisons like, "The Carter Family meets The Black Lips."

sounds right up my alley.

Tom, I saw Those Darlins in Portland, OR last year during Garagefest and they were one of the best bands I saw play that day. I would definitely check them out if your thing is alt-country punk with chicks who like to party.

Yeah, Tom, Those Darlin's were a ton of fun. They opened their set at the Modified right about a year ago with a searing bluesy instrumental and then changed up to fun, garagey country. It took me a bit to work my way into it - I wanted to hear more like that first song - but there was enough energy around that it was a foregone conclusion that I'd enjoy myself.

Haha, that's pretty funny. I was gonna try to get him to play some of the sets you'd recorded to see if you'd pick up on it but I never got him the music.

And sorry, no, anything I've got against him I've already used, haha. He's a good guy.

So I went to Ratatat on Saturday night. It was way more packed than I thought it would be. The line to get in was outrageous. Outside that, the show was awesome. Ratatat had an incredible light show. There was a large screen behind all their gear, which displayed different videos for each song. On each side of the screen was a helix of lights, imagine smaller versions of the helix behind Daft Punk's pyramid. In front of the helix of lights on each side was a clear screen flush with the end of the stage. So they would have a video playing on the big screen behind them, and then a video projected from behind on the clear screens at the front sides of the stage (not the same video, but complimentary to the video playing on the large screen). With the helix of lights behind the clear screens, along with the synchronized videos, it gave the effect that there were 3-D images projected on the front of the stage. I think this is what MSTRKRFT originally planned to try and pull off at Coachella.

IFA and i may take you up on that if that's cool. my co-worker is having a happy hour right after work, but i think she's reserving a table so that may not be the best place for pre-tuna crunking.

http://i663.photobucket.com/albums/uu353/dreed8823/CLUBHOUSE/chali2.jpg

looks like doors are 7pm according to the clubhouse website (http://clubhousemusicvenue.com/modules/agendax/index.php?op=view&id=1156). new times (http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/events/chali-2na-and-the-house-of-vibe-1853000/) says 8:30pm is when the show starts. there are two openers from what i can tell on the flyer, skywriter and mykrfiendx. new times lists a third, "MANIone". so i would guess 2na is going on a bit later, but if anyone knows the exact time, please let me know. i'd like to avoid the heat for as long as possible lol.

Mr. Dylanja
10-01-2010, 10:03 AM
Doesn't the clubhouse try to keep their shows going up until last call? I bet 2na doesn't go on til around 12.

Never will my head expand, this publisher is clearing house like I'm Ed McMahon
