Give it a go, if you want. I figure that once it warms up, Big Sur should be getting some more shows.

Yeah, the Rio usually pulls 2-3 Coachella acts too. They inexplicably had Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes play at the start of the month, but they're pulling in Rogue Wave and Portugal. The Man among other bands. I'll think about it.

East Bay Express' Best of the East Bay party in jack London Square.

On August 6, the East Bay Express celebrates its winners of the 2010 Best of the East Bay readersí poll and editorsí picks all along the Jack London Square waterfront. Over 20,000 guests are expected to attend and salute the best ideas, products and services that are borne out of the East Bay region.

This yearís Best of the East Bay Party main stage (sponsored by Amoeba Music) will feature twelve local bands: The Mighty Underdogs (made up of Gift of Gab from Blackalicious, Lateef from Latyrx and Headnodic from Crown City Rockers), Everything Must Go, Finish Ticket, Zydeco Flames, The Memphis Murder Men, Belle Monroe and her Brewglass Boys, Kit & the Branded Men, Bang Data, Birds and Batteries, Stone Foxes, Cheetahs on the Moon, and Fans of Jimmy Century.

Make sure to spend some time lounging in the Blues Pavilion (sponsored by the Bay Area Blues Society and Yoshi's), where the Express pays tribute to the venerable blues history of Russell City in Hayward and 7th Street in West Oakland with performances by some of the best blues musicians in the East Bay.

I'm a bit angry right now considering I just got word the Hawaii show was cancelled and of course I booked and entire trip around it.

but, you in the Oakland area win.

For those who wanted more shows. You win while I drowned in my tears.

is anyone going to the Dungen show tonite? my friend Josh (Deakin from AC) just sent me a long text saying that i must go see the opener - The Entrance Band. he went to HS with their guitarist and was raving about him. the only band i've ever heard him rave on about like this before was CAN.

more descriptors: "one of the best psych rock bands i have ever seen" "the bass player dances like a snake and plays amazing bass" "you absolutely, positively will not regret it"

looks like i'm going to the New Parish tonite. anyone wanna join me?

I was at 1-2-3-4-Go! records in North Oakland yesterday and the owner was talking about how he is in talks with whoever owns the building space across the street about opening up a new all-ages venue (with potentially a beer garden on the side?).

I didn't see the building in discussion, but he said it would hold ~ 200-250 people. They are also a record label for some local punk/garage bands so that's what I imagine they would go after for booking at first.

bballarl
05-24-2011, 06:43 PM
That would be fucking amazing. Good all ages venues are in such short supply. 1-2-3-4 Go is also a super awesome record store.

guedita
05-24-2011, 07:00 PM
Yeah, it is. I can't wait to go back and buy some more records there. The guy was talking about how so many shows in Oakland end up being house parties or in warehouses, and how so many parents are unwilling to drop their kids off at places like that, so he is motivated to establish something for the community that is safe. I would also love to find a place out here that throws good electronic nights....I'll try to make it to The People's Party the next chance I get to scope it out.

Concord council, promoter hope new deal sparks Pavilion revival

"During each of the two five-year periods of the contract, Live Nation must book a minimum of 75 concerts that draw an audience of at least 3,000 per show. Live Nation must pay Concord a $40,000 fine for each such show it fails to deliver."

"Live Nation must spend $3.7 million on capital improvements at the 38-year-old venue. The contract also calls for Live Nation and the city to spend about $1.1 million each on maintenance over 10 years."

Concord Pavilion getting makeover

11867

"The long list of projects includes remodeling the box office; painting; repaving pathways and plazas; renovating concession stands and restrooms; and adding benches, $115,000 worth of trees and flowers and a new lawn"

"Backstage, performers will find new showers, renovated dressing rooms and bathrooms and a remodeled lounge."

"The company also attracted artists with younger fans by creating a general admission section in front of the stage. Live Nation plans to take out the fixed seats from the amphitheater's lowest level and replace them with removable cushioned chairs."

"Carrico noted that the flexible space also will allow Live Nation to set up a T-shaped stage or tables for dining."
