Who is going to DATA on Friday?

shakermaker113

I was going to, but I think I have to go to afterburn instead...

GeezrRckr

i may go to Data. depends on if i'm feeling dance-y or mellow (Sun Kil Moon is also playing). thanks for sending the Afterburn line-up, Shaker. not feeling that one.

this is just a pre-sale, right?

GeezrRckr
09-07-2010, 08:51 AM
yeah. i'm buying today b/c i know i'm going and i prefer buying via Front Gate vs Ticketraper (likely the fees will be slightly lower as well). the only reason why i might now is if it's willcall only.

BlackSwan
09-07-2010, 08:53 AM
It's odd that the date isn't on TM or APE yet.

GeezrRckr

odd indeed. hmm.

GeezrRckr
09-07-2010, 09:06 AM
i don't have a clue. like you, i find it odd that it's not been announced yet. but, it better be happening cuz i just bought two tix!

chiapet
09-07-2010, 09:15 AM
Wasn't it on Ticketmaster before? Odd... I could have sworn it was and that it was going on sale on Sunday 10AM.

FG 'fees' seem to be almost as bad as TM being that they are forcing UPS shipping.

GeezrRckr
09-07-2010, 09:17 AM
yeah, that last bit was a bit extreme. still, i'm happy to give anyone but TM my money.

this is going to be a really good show...pumped!

BlackSwan
09-07-2010, 09:17 AM
ah, it wasn't when i checked yesterday, but it is now.

edit: wtf? i just refreshed the page and it's gone.

i am going to wait for the regular on sale so i can get the reserved section tickets.

I can't bring myself to spending that much to see Massive Attack for a third time this year. Thievery Corporation eludes me once again.

09-07-2010, 09:29 AM
def gonna be worth it.

GeezrRckr
09-07-2010, 09:33 AM
just wait, Cara. if it doesn't sell out right away, there will likely be some cheap tix closer to event date. my feeling is that this will either be an immediate knock out or the price and close proximity to their last show will cause for slow sales. just a hunch.

Thievery has not worked for me for several years, but they don't /harm/ me either and I'll gladly watch them after Massive Attack. ;)

GeezrRckr
09-07-2010, 09:51 AM
i still feel pretty confident that MA will headline.

yeah, it's more like a reggae/rap hybrid. regardless...whatever they think they are playing just bores the fuck out of me (it ain't no Nas/Damian Marley, that's for sure). i have skipped seeing them the past few times since the release of Radio Retaliation. i'm hoping they drop this nonsense and go back to the good downtempo-based stuff for their next release.

Mighty's nuts, it doesn't jump off there till way late generally. Boyz Noise didn't go on until 1:30 or 2 last time he played there. This is a free show though, so getting there early is probably a good idea.

I love Mighty the most when it's empty. It's small enough that I get really irritated on weekend shows when bridge and tunnel bitches just stand on the front center of the dance floor with their big ass purses asking their friends why they didn't go to Ruby Skye.

Oh man, Beak> was much better than I thought they would be. They played 8 songs and bantered a bit. After one of their songs they commented that when they played that particular song last night they accidentally played it in the wrong key, making it the remix. Geoff also said that having a record store like Amoeba is a real treasure since they don't have "fucking proper" record stores in England anymore. I'm liking living so close to the city, it only took us 20 minutes door to door.

Though I don't think of Slim's as being intimate in any manner.

This does sound interesting and its on my birthday so I might just want to check this out. Getting a little German Industrial craziness on my birthday might be fun way to celebrate.

October is now completely booked:

Oct23: Sound of Stereo @ The Triple Crown

These guys were the surprise act of EDC this year. Think Wolfgang meets Bloody Beetroots. Anyone have experience with Triple Crown?

3x crown is cool! it's just down the street. we went there after Air for a bit and a girl was hitting on Cara.

I think I'm hitting the 3x crown on the 30th for clubroot.

i forgot to mention that the Independent looks fantastic after it's recent face-lift. they nearly redid the entire inside...bathrooms (they flipped the men's/women's, btw), interior lighting, the floor, side seating, upstairs mezzanine and they also added a bit of "roofing" to the stage area. oh, and merch is now sold in the back near where the ATM machine is.

True Skool made a post yesterday about the Mix Master Mike/DEL @ Mighty tonight. Looks like all RSVP/ticket request lists were closed yesterday afternoon. Do you take that to mean they reached the maximum amount of RSVPs and its going to be crowded early?

Sweet, this was originally billed as a DJ set, stoked to see that it is now to be a LIVE set...$20, not bad. It won't replace the lack of a Portishead show, but it sure does help ease the pain.

Damn, would the Mezzanine charge $18 for a DJ set? This price is slightly more than what we paid to see them live in Washington and Oregon during 2009. However, the Mezzanine did charge $20 for the Cut//Copy SMD show...damnit.

Edit:

Buffalo Springfield is reuniting for Bridge School. wow! "For What It's Worth" was playing the first time i smoked weed.

Buffalo Springfield are reforming for their first concert in 42 years, happening at this year’s Bridge School Benefit in Mountain View, California on October 23rd and October 24th. Rolling Stone can confirm that surviving original members Neil Young, Stephen Stills and Richie Furay will perform. (Original bassist Bruce Palmer died in 2004; the band’s first drummer, Dewey Martin, died last year.) Neil Young and his wife Pegi have staged the all-acoustic Bridge School concerts, which raise money for the students with severe physical handicaps, nearly every year since 1986.

Other likely performers: Pearl Jam, Elvis Costello, Merle Haggard with Kris Kristofferson, Modest Mouse, Grizzly Bear, Billy Idol, Lucinda Williams, Jackson Browne and T-Bone Burnett’s Speaking Clock Revue, which features Elton John and Leon Russell, Ralph Stanley, Neko Case and Jeff Bridges.

Buffalo Springfield last played together in 1968, though they performed privately at the home of Stephen Stills in July of 1986. A tour was discussed, but Young decided he didn’t want to do it — leaving Dewey Martin and Bruce Palmer to recruit new members and tour as Buffalo Springfield Revisited. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, but Young didn’t attend the ceremony. Three years later he released the song “Buffalo Springfield Again,” which voiced a desire to “to see those guys again and give it a shot. Maybe we can now show the world what we got."

not very hard, but honestly the only time(s) I can and have ever won anything from LIVE 105 is during the Sound Check (NEW local/indie/electro/hip hop music show) show they do on Sunday nights. I guess their audience/market doesnt listen to new and/or indie music cause thats the only times Ive ever gotten through.

This is actually the second time Ive won Black Keys tickets this year from them. I won tickets to Yuri's night too! I also won tickets to their BFD festival and the Matt&Kim pre-party at Mezzanine. Ive also won The Roots tickets from them before too, all during the Sound Check show, Sundays 7-10pm.

I tried winning tickets to Spookfest when they did they show announcement and was caller #1 and #4 twice (they were looking for #5 of course!) Believe me, Im stoked I won the tickets and I realize it'll be "hot" with two sold out shows, but I really wanted to win me some Spookfest tickets.

I've only been to Bridge School once.... 3 years ago.... Tom Waits was playing. How could I not go?

The lineup for that day was pretty decent compared to what I expect from BSB lineups. I saw My Morning Jacket -> Regina Spektor -> Tegan & Sara -> John Mayer -> Tom Waits -> Jerry Lee Lewis. I skipped Neil Young (NOT a fan) and Metallica.

It would have probably been a lot better if I'd sprung for tickets in the seated section, but I didn't buy my ticket early enough to find a good seat, and was already balking at the cost of the ticket + TM fees + transportation to get to Shoreline. Really expensive for a day of music.

As it was... it was a day of nice weather (not too hot), in the lawn section, the music was good, I could see nothing at all, the crowd was not great (people talking loudly through everything and their kids running around wild).

There is nothing else going on during the sets you don't enjoy so you end up sitting through Tegan & Sara and John Mayer.... or similar. ;)

I still need to think about Carl Craig, because I think I have work at 9 the next morning. But I really want to see him. I can deal with potential douchiness for a bit if he is as good as advertised live.

i might adopt this attitude as well. perhaps i can deal if i have some partners to get snarky with, that being the case.

I find Thursday to be comparable to the weekend in terms of douchiness in clubs.

I also would like to see Carl Craig. Have never been to Vessel. I think most places in SF that bring in electronic arts are kind of douche-y so it probably wouldn't bother me more than anything else.

ah, this reminded me!

New club opening in SF... details would be on this Facebook Page (http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=148515581839069)

sure it's a hippy electro party. But they've got a Funktion 1 sound rig (if you don't know, get educated), and only good vibes will be passing through this one. :) I'm excited.

Queue the ambulance sounds.

I saw a hot blonde 20 something chick get kicked out of Chemical Brothers right as we were walking in. She had this crazy goofy look in her eyes and it took about 4 security guards to get her out of the building. People need to learn how to pace themselves. I mean if you get kicked out for being too fucked up, at least try to hear one song from the band that got you there. Don't get kicked out during Freak Nasty.

well apparently we have a partial lineup for the next silent disco, and they gave away the "secret location" on the poster:

as far as I can tell 620 jones st is a luxury apartment building? is this going to be a rooftop thing?

I don't know why people ever ask that question any more. if shpongle were to ever do a live set on US soil it would be all over the board. if you have to ask, it's not happening.

I like the look of that outdoor venue actually. that weekend is looking like viatlic, silent disco, arcade fire, bluegrass festival.

I don't know who the openers are for Vitalic, but there is a Dirtybird party that night that is FREE with RSVP. I'm just saying, we could start a little hangout gathering earlier in the night, head over to the Mezz for some warm up dancing, go to Vitalic, go to sleep, go to the Silent Disco, go to the Arcade Fire, go to sleep, go to the Bluegrass Festival, sleep forever.

unisex bathrooms.

the layout is terrible. Its too partitioned and the stairs funneling into the bar will make for a clusterfuck like no other.

Oh youse guys...there's a roof top garden! That's rad.

Pantha was awesome. Geez didn't like the bro-odor that was going on in the crowd. Pantha's tracks were extended, distorted, and deconstructed all while maintaining a smooth, steady beat. Very German/soundscape minimal.
