Hey guys, goin to Roger Waters next Friday, and I want to go bar hopping afterwards. I know some of the bars around the park from going to baseball games, but we've got a room at the Knights Inn and was wonder what is good more in that vicinity. I know The End Up is around the corner but I've never been there, any good? 103 Harriet is nearby too but they have a show going that night and I'm looking for more of a bar or bar+dance floor type scene. Thanks for any help.

Anyone else going to The Wall?

Also, how late will the show go to?

I'm an asshole! I promised my friend tickets to see Meshuggah/Baroness at the Fillmore tomorrow 5/6 and thought I would be able to find tickets on CL... Boy was I wrong. This is a long shot but does anyone in here have any extra tickets or know of anyone with extra tickets to this show tomorrow? I should have known better, metal heads stay true to their commitment of actually going to the shows they buy tickets for... SHIT!

Fuck yes so excited. It'll be over by 10:45 or 11.

Anyway, there are a bunch of bars around where you're staying, basically that whole strip of Folsom has a lot of clubs and bars on it, just walk around and you'll find something you're into. Raven is pretty nice, they have a dancefloor + bar situation.

Seriously? Soul Clap was SO QUIET at Monarch. I don't know WTF was the problem on Friday, but it didn't really sound that great to me.

Soul Clap also completely phoned it in, Eli wasn't even in the booth half of the time, he was out back doing who knows what. Cara and I left at like 1:15 and went to Tiga which was so much better.

Sound for Metro Area was fine. The strength of Monarch's system isn't necessarily the volume, its the clarity. Sound at pw and especially mighty is way, way more muddled. I thought Soul Clap was fun but not anything particularly special. Lazarus was more disappointing. 3rd time seeing him and probably the last. Not bad but thoroughly meh.

Music on saturday was leaps and bounds better than friday.

5:59:59, assuming they are on time. My experience is that on weeknights, people just forget or can't get out there in time or don't want to deal with the parking, etc. If it were a weekened and they were expecting a crowd, they would do a wristband lottery or something. You should have no trouble at all no matter what time you arrive tomorrow. I'll be there too ;)

you can stream the new album here: http://www.guerrillacandy.com/2012/05/05/stream-silversun-pickups-new-album-neck-of-the-woods/

The Holy Cow

That's the club that misplaced my license and credit card last year. They found it over a month later. They didn't even try to contact me after they found it. My friend who DJs there saw it on the manager's desk one day and told me. When I went to pick it up, they said the card wouldn't swipe. That's right... they tried to charge my card.

Just don't open a tab at the bar.
And be careful where you park. My car got broken into the same night.

Other than that, the club is decent. If I didn't have such a terrible first time there, I'd probably go back more often.

edit: Not sure what a Sunday night crowd would be like, but that place does attract slutty chics that like to dance on top of the bar.

From work tonight, I'm headed to see the Silversun Pick Ups at Amoeba. I also hope it's an electric set and more than 4-5 songs.

As far as a costume, I think I'm just gonna half-ass it with a Travolta-esque 70's disco shirt. I know alot of people go all out, but as long as you do something you're doing ok.

ELECtROjan

FWIW, radio presale is "machine." I had to make several attempts, but there are still seats available in the 2xx sections.

CrystalCastlesFreak

the Best Available I received after 4-5 attempt was 203 row: L which i passed on. How does one go about getting 100 level tickets?

CrystalCastlesFreak
05-10-2012, 09:53 AM
I pulled a level 100 ticket in row K, but that's probably cause it was just 1 ticket

ELECtROjan
05-10-2012, 10:04 AM
does anyone know if Citi/Radio presale serve the best available v given location allotments? If we get decent seats should I pick them up now, or is there a chance to get better GA tomorrow?

ELECtROjan
05-10-2012, 10:15 AM
done. Matched to 4 tickets in 203 row J and pulled the trigger.

i wish i knew kfog was doing the presale - i've been trying to contact live 105 and nobody knew what the hell i was talking about. i've only been able to pull a single seat in 101 row S so far but i'll try again tomorrow at 10 before i inevitably just purchase a lawn ticket

Mountain View seems a MUCH better choice for a city to be represented by that lineup.

Edit: How are people seriously complaining that Shoreline is a worse venue than the AT&T ball park lot? I get that it's a hassle to get to Shoreline (but they are providing free shuttles, it looks like), but there's no way that it's actually a worse spot for a show.

I suppose it's worse for dancing unless you're in the lawn (though I've always found it pretty easy to dance between seats/rows).

Sorry, I try to keep my music snobbery to a minimum here but this is just such an awful, absolutely generic lineup that seems perfectly catered to teenagers from the suburbs that I don't know why it wouldn't be a 16+ show in the suburbs.

How was Roger Waters last night? Thought I'd finally get to the chance to catch The Wall, but even though I've had the tickets for 6 months, my job needed me to work last night. I went to literally every single manager that could fill my position but they are all out of town this weekend so I pretty much was depended upon. Really sucked, but I sold my ticket to a friend for face value so at least I made my money back.

It was pretty radical. Never seen a production like that and was very impressed. The sound was good and "the Wall" spanned from the left field foul pole all the way across to where the brick wall in triples alley meets the centerfield bleachers. I'm sure some good photos will surface. Good vibe from the crowd too, everyone was chill and enjoying it (if not being totally blown away by it).

Yeah, the production of it was intense but ran very well. You could definitely tell they have been doing this show for two years because it all ran very smoothly. I was in the upper deck but the sound was great up there.

What a great weekend with the Wall, Karl D doing the Beasties tribute, and then How Weird. Doesn't really get any better than that.

So about last night....
James Murphy's set was amazing, as was expected. Definitely got my disco on and threw in some disco moves while dancing.
I did end up leaving kinda early because I couldn't stand the crowd anymore. One guy interrupted my dancing to try to converse about music. A group of guys tried to move in front of me to dance with me pretty closely. I kept getting pushed and shoved by people walking by, and got drinks spilled all over me. After all that, the last straw were these two guys that stopped me from dancing to try to hit on me. I told them they were too young and to keep walking.
The best part of the night though was overhearing this girl tell the guy that she was with that she wanted a "diet beer."

I Love This City was pure insanity. Madeon, James Murphy, Afrojack, & Tiesto were my favorites :)

Sounds about right. I wanted to go see James Murphy and Jacques Renault, but I had a hunch the crowd would ruin the evening. It really stinks, but PW seems to bring out the worst people at times.

The crowd included more Marina-types than usual, not unlike the Benoit and Sergio show in December. The main was slammed for James Murphy but those that stayed downstairs were making a massive (and predictable) mistake. I was there mostly for Jacques Renault, who didn't disappoint. The crowd in the loft was relatively sparse and the energy/atmosphere was far, far better.

I find that it's generally the EXACT same group of people for most of the shows I attend at PW (the house/techno stuff). I quite enjoy mixing it up w/ a different group from time to time. Most of the regulars were in Detroit this weekend.

That was the first time I've ever been to PW. If I knew how to get upstairs, I probably would have parked it up there.
But, to look on the bright side of things, whatever dancing I did get in, I had fun doing it. And the bartenders were top notch. I never had to wait long for a beer.

there is something about SF folks in general, whether fit the Marina stereotype or the Mission stereotype or whatever, that think it's cool for 1 or 2 people to get up close or in a relatively tight spot, then have 8 or 10 more friends show up. They'll typically spill a drink on you while moving past to get in front of you (obviously aware that they just walked by you), then stand 10-inches in front of you and proceed to back up and into you repeatedly like you are not even there (making you spill your drink on yourself). But the worst is when the nearly the same situation plays out, but directly behind you and you turn around and someone is continually backing into while not even facing the damn stage. WTF people? Yes, it's perfectly fine to get close and enjoy a show as a crowd. But don't just cram in, rub up against someone, spill your drink on them, etc. and then not even acknowledge it. A simple "hello, great show, sorry about that spill..." can really help diffuse a situation. But standing there like an asshat and acting like it didn't happen seems to be the norm for most of the people I see at shows nowadays. That's great, you're with your friends, we get it, but have a little common courtesy!

Agreed. Though I'm not so sure that's peculiar to SF crowds. Think it's largely a function of the act that's playing and the size of the crowd relative to the size of the venue. Funny that you should mention people not facing the stage. A pet peeve of mine is the silliness of constantly facing the stage when the only thing taking place up there is a guy/girl playing records. A band warrants watching. A DJ does not.

I felt like I was getting dry humped at one point (like a scene from Night at the Roxbury) when this guy and girl tried to squeeze in front of me then started dancing. I had to move.

I was talking about any/all shows, but you're right about a DJ. However, some DJ's have pretty good light shows/productions going, and I like watching those while I dance too. I don't think it has as much to do with the act and crowd size relative to venue size as much as it is just more people being social morons with no clue how to express courtesy or interact unless its with someone in their immediate circle of friends. I'm not saying we need to have a lovefest and everybody be best friends, as you are there with your group and want to enjoy that company, but when 1/3 of your beer spills down the shoulder of the person you are trying to pass, or your ass is rubbing up against the person behind you, a simple acknowledgement of the close-quarters is appropriate.

that's what i always think, ha. sometimes i wanna face my girlfriend when I dance with her, nothin wrong with that imo. especially if they're just using ableton or cdjs.

you guys put so much thought into this. I have a much simpler formula: sometimes crowds suck.

I would much rather face my friends than the dj.

This is not just a SF thing. It is the combination of people having much less self-awareness these days and your getting old (the latter being something I am quite familiar with).

Drew, any chance you are going to see Kurt Vile & the Violators tonight at the Fillmore? I'm thinking about it, but don't really want to roll solo.

And you're right, age certainly plays a factor. But I'm not the type that needs to stand close anyways, so I chill back a bit, find a spot with good sound and try to enjoy it. Crowds don't get to me as much as those couple of posts may make it seem. Pretty much any place you go that's serving drinks nowadays there are going to be a couple of loud-in-a-crowd types that don't give a shit. I just hope they aren't standing next to me. Hahaha.
