They are probably doing a OSL night show on the 13th. If it makes you feel any better Juan Maclean is doing a DJ set at 222 Hyde this Thursday.

not exactly a just announced show, but it looks like Another Planet will be booking the Bill Graham for years to come. Not exactly my favorite venue, perhaps my least favorite in SF, but if its big enough to bring acts to the City instead of having to travel to Mtn. View or Oakland, I'll take it!

word. for all the shit i give to APE re: OSL, i still love them and want them to continue to grow and kick ass. this is an example of why.

let's just hope that a good lot of that money is invested in a new sound system. that would make BGC a pretty awesome show spot, imo.

I am not liking this "you have to have purchased a ticket to OSL to be able to purchase a night show ticket" aspect of this announcement.

I think they just mean that you will need a password to purchase tickets to these shows and OSL ticket holders will get the password. Doesn't mean that only OSL ticket holders will be the only ones who are able to buy tickets. Can't see how they could make that work. How would the people who purchased tickets at the Oakland Fox Theater or The Independent get the password?

That said, if someone on here purchased a OSL ticket, please send me the password on July 21st so I can get me some Hercules And Love Affair Tickets.

Theres something called the ALL SHOOK DOWN music festival...

SUNDAY, JULY 25

SF WEEKLY presents

all shook down

MUSIC FESTIVAL 2010

ASD Logo

SF Weekly and Scion are proud to present All Shook Down, a showcase of eclectic local, national, and international music in the heart of San Francisco's historic North Beach neighborhood. Featuring live music from more than 30 artists on an outdoor stage and in the unique intimate venues on Grant & Green streets. With production support provided by North Beach Jazz Fest veterans Sunset Promotions and promotional partners Eye Heart SF, Nate Mezmer Presents, Crawl SF and 1M Entertainment. Headlining the event will be internationally acclaimed pop artist NEON INDIAN and future-soul diva JANELLE MONAE. All Shook Down will also unveil the nominees for the 2010 SF Weekly Music Awards, and attendees will be able to submit their votes on-site. Many of the nominees will be performing at the festival. Among the confirmed local artists are FORREST DAY, BIRDS & BATTERIES, SANTERO, THE JAZZ MAFIA ALL STARS, THE PARK, JOE BAGALE, BOCA DO RIO, A.B. & THE SEA, THE OAKLAND FADERS feat. ZEPH, PLATURN & ENKI, GHOSTS ON TAPE, DISCO SHAWN, MOZAIC, AFROLICIOUS DJ SET, THE BRASS MAFIA, MISTER LOVELESS, TY SEGALL, GRASS WIDOW THE RONDO BROTHERS w. THE FOREIGN GLOBESTER, THE FEROCIOUS FEW, CITAY, BARE WIRES, TINY TELEVISION, PERSONAL & THE PIZZAS, ODESSA CHEN, SONNY & THE SUNSETS, CRYSTAL MONEE HALL, SWOOP UNIT, ERIC SHARP, DEREK HENA and more TBA.

All Shook Down will also feature more than 40 food, art, and merchandise vendors. The daytime portion of the event will run from Noon till 7pm, with local venues running music into the evening. Among the participating venues are some of North Beach's most historic intimate nightspots: Amante, Grant & Green, Maggie McGarry's, Mojito, Royale, and Savoy Tivoli with several more to be announced.

All of these venues will be accessible for a single-price ticket available for only $8 in advance. VIP packages at a cost of $40 will include:

-Access to exclusive VIP lounge

-Enjoy complimentary snacks and treats

-Preferred entry into all participating venues

-Yak-Pak gift bag filled with festival goodies

-Clean, non Porto-Potty, VIP restrooms!

Stay tuned for more info here, at sfweekly.com, sfallshookdown.com, and sunsetpromotions.com

Please note that participating venues will only admit persons 21+ in age.

The outdoor stage and festival area will be all ages.

http://allshookdown.eventbrite.com/

So we can see some outside lands artists early for like $10?! Ill also give FORREST DAY some love. Ive seen them a few times in SF and in Oakland and they are pretty awesome. They just played some big "best of SF" party at the Metreon with Zion-I.

Apologies if this has been discussed, but I couldn't find anything after a quick search... I just got an email from SonicLiving about a Hot Chip show 10/27 at the Warfield. Did they add another one or just bump it back b/c of TI? Or is SonicLiving just wrong as it frequently is?

It's on 10/17. That post on SonicLiving was add by their robot that pulls newly add LiveNation/Ticketmaster shows, so LN/TM must have screwed up at some point last night for that to be created.

There's a new festival coming to Nor Cal in 2011.

The Gaia Festival to be held at Black Oak Ranch August 5, 6, & 7, 2011

Back Roads Productions, the folks who bring us the Kate Wolf Memorial Music Festival in northern Mendocino County, are pleased to announce a new summer festival at Black Oak Ranch; "THE GAIA FESTIVAL." The Gaia Festival is a manifestation of our desire to take personal responsibility with a global consciousness that is reflected through sustainable living, social & environmental activism, alternative energy, healing arts, theater, world-class music and more!

The Gaia Festival will include a series of connected villages throughout the grounds, each devoted to an aspect of life and the future health of all living things. Stroll down to the creek for a mid-day swim while attending a workshop on stream restoration and riparian health. Join discussions on traditional and emerging wisdom with the elders and youth councils in the Wisdom Village. Enjoy a massage, some yoga, or late night Kirtan in our Introspection Community Village. Visit the Illumination Eco-Village where there will be workshops on alternative energy, permaculture, green building, sustainable & communal living and environmental activism. Join the tribal dance in our 60' dome as darkness settles in each night. Innocence and Trust are the pillars with which we build our children's play zone, where kids get a chance to express themselves through art, music, storytelling, group games and a parade.

The central piece of the festival will be the Earth & Sky stage, nestled among the ancient oaks, where we will present a variety of world class performing artists bringing music from all genres expressing a positive message for our time.

There'll be plenty of great food & crafts provided by local non-profits and artisans featuring the north coast's finest organic and sustainable products.

Five stages, four directions, three days, too much fun, one love! THE GAIA FESTIVAL.

Stay tuned for more information about THE GAIA FESTIVAL, AUGUST 5-6-7, 2011

Herb and Tim are the same guy, you numbskull. Jay Lane is drumming for this current incarnation, he was in the original Primus lineup with Les, and Todd Huth. Todd and Jay both left to do other things, and Primus as we all know it was then Les, Tim (Herb), and Larry (Ler). The original lineup got back together under the name Sausage and did an album. Jay has also played with The Frog Brigade. If you have ever seen Les and Jay together you'll know they have the best chemistry out of any of the drummers Les has worked with over the years, so this should make for an interesting tour.

^ Broken Bells at the Regency Ballroom recently seemed like a much better venue size for them. Or at least the way that place is set up compared to the Fox. As much as I like how they have restored the Fox, the sound has seemed off for just about every show I've gone to except maybe the Pixies. I saw the New Pornographers there on Sunday and could barely hear a lyric, let alone any between song banter.

GeezrRckr
07-21-2010, 11:12 AM
wow, strange. i just *now* fired off an em discussing this very thing to a friend complaining about the sound at the Fox. he was also at the NP show and really complained. where were you?

this is interesting as i am a serious sound phreak and have always found the sound to be just fine at the Fox (not the best, but certainly not as bad as the Regency used to be...or Slim's...which is the worst). i tend to get within the first two tiers of the stage. my friend has a handicapped partner so always buys Visa sig tix to sit in their section...waaaay back. that's the only thing i can think of in his case.

curious as to what others impressions are.

guedita
07-21-2010, 11:22 AM
Actually someone last night told me they disliked the sound at the Fox, and they had only been to the Black Keys there. I haven't really noticed the sound being bad there.

I missed the New Pornographers show so I guess I'm guiltily somewhat happy to hear it might have been difficult to hear.

wmgaretjax
07-21-2010, 11:47 AM
The sound is obviously finicky at the Fox. At the Thom Yorke show Flying Lotus sounded like absolute shit... But the main set was fine.

I understand the point, however the entire crowd at the Delorean show in Seattle cheered for 10-15 minutes following their exit and then...nothing. This sort of colors the overall experience. Sure, being left wanting more is a good thing, but this is not the feeling we left that show with.

His MySpace says that this show is a DJ Set.

I don't know why blasthaus billed him as "Live", he just DJs. I don't think he even has a live setup. His show at the mezzanine last year was a lot of fun.

Anyone gonna see Blonde Redhead at the Warfield in November?

I am. Will be my.. 19th? time seeing them. :)

I know who Oakenfold is (no clue on the others) but a serious question to the more than casual EDM fans on the board. Does he still matter in 2010 or is he just old news?

does not matter.

LIVE usually means the dj is exclusively playing their own material and/or remixes. DJset means they play other artists as well.

Live with respect to electronic shows can mean a variety of things. One being what you said. Another being the act performs with some of their studio equipment on stage, like SMD. I believe the latter to be the true definition of a "Live" show. The last time I saw data, he was billed as performing "Live" and he played some of his original tracks, some of his remixes, and a whole mess of others tracks. In other words, he did a DJ Set. And that's fine, because it was an amazing show. So in this case, I think blasthaus is just ignorantly billing him as "Live".

what's a good Blonde Redhead album to start with. for some reason, i've always avoided them....don't ask me why/how. it appears that i've missed something.

Geezr, you have been missing out ALOT. Luckily you have not completely fucked up and decided to check this lovely band out. I personally would start with Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons.

I disagree wholeheartedly. Start with Fake Can Be Just As Good, move on to In Expression of the Inexpressible, then Melody. Don't get me wrong, Melody is good, it's just not the best.

Edited: I take it back, Melody is always way better than I remember until I listen to it again. Listen to all three anyway :)

I am forced to listen to all three now just to make sure my suggestions are indeed the best.

I don't think Melody is their best album, just a very easy one to get into.

I revised my statement, I always forget how many good songs are on Melody too. Really most of their albums are pretty good. The first is not that strong, and Misery is not in my favorites, other than that...

thanks, guys. so far i like what i hear. totally different than what i expected (pretty sure i gave them a listen a while back...didn't they play Sunset Junction a few years ago. that was likely why).

i think i'm going to buy a ticket for this. are they good live? i don't want to have another Morcheeba let down (which their myspace songs kinda remind me of a little...very little).

EDIT: shit, listening to Melody now. totally different than the stuff i just listened to. so not Morcheeba! digging.

they did two shows out of the blue at the independent for the bike coalition last year. I went to one, it was good. I'd see them again, but I don't know about the warfield this time around.

I love them live, but obviously am a little biased. Now I feel like they've lost some of the energy they used to have but it's still a good live show.

The Independent show was good! I've seen them at the Warfield before... I just don't like the Warfield so of course I didn't get into it as much.

I've seen 'em twice. Once festival. Once headlining. Found 'em to be pretty boring to be honest. I'm fairly unengaged by their music though... So my opinion might be irrelevant.

okay. as long as you're willing to roll the dice on it not selling out. i think that's a safe bet, though. i only bought mine through the Jonsi presale because the fee was only $5 (and i want to believe that fan pre-sales result in more money directly into the artist's pocket).

will you please send me a text on monday to remind me, just to be sure.

Hrmmmm good point, think there's a chance it would sell out by Monday night?

GeezrRckr
07-29-2010, 11:01 AM
here's what I told Russell:

today is the pre-sale. if the pre-sale doesn't sell out, tix will be avail Monday. if it does, you still have a chance to buy online Sunday, if you're feeling nervous about waiting till Monday. additionally, he's played two nights here within the last 5 mos so the likelihood of those same people seeing him again in such a short span is likely not too high. and, i don't think Go has really blown up, has it? (unlike, say, Broken Bells since their first show here)

i know you are less loathe to pay fees as other people are so it's up to you. i still think you'll be allright come Monday.

Hmm, well the Mezz website doesn't say sold out, so there will probably be some tickets at the door for $25.

P.S. Is anyone else here excited for John Tejada? What time do you think he'll be on?
