I don't think his show would work very well at TI. I'm actually not totally against going to the Greek show, I just imagine it's going to be a pricey ticket, and I'm annoyed that I have gone to see it a couple of times without ... seeing it.

$39.50

Think I might have to go to that. 7 months away, yeesh.

doesn't seem like a show that would sell out the greek very quickly, if at all.

I'm curious as well. Also, I'm hoping it's more evening-oriented. I'm not off work till 4-ish down here in Redwood City, so it'll take me about 2 hours to get to Fort Mason via public. Makes me nervous, but I mostly care about James Murphy, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Squarepusher, and The Antlers.

Magda @ Monarch on 3/16 is now Magda @ TBA. Tickets are up on RA ($20), event is described as an "Intimate Evening w/ Magda" and end time is listed as "late". Location to be revealed day of the show. All this leads me to believe they will be using an underground venue and Magda is likely to play an extended set. I'm hearing things about a new spot in the Mission w/ some promise but beyond that I'm not sure where this is likely to take place. Since the Compound was razed and Monarch/PW came into being these sorts of events have been few and far between. Anyway, people trying to go to the Hospital Records party or Lindstrom or Layo & Bushwacka should be able to easily catch Magda after those shows if they're so inclined.

chiapet
03-08-2012, 10:28 AM
I know of about 15-20 people who've purchased a Magda ticket... that is quite the crew.
We had been talking about my place as a pre-party spot before Hospital records, but I can't accommodate this number of people. Not to mention, it's pretty far from the venue(s) and we'll be heading out a lot earlier than those just going to Magda. Our pre-Hospitality plans include someone who is < 21 so we wanted to avoid bars.

And back on topic:
3/29 Subb-An @ Vessel (Base)

Just bought a Magda ticket JUST IN CASE I change my mind.

The last time I stayed at this hotel (https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/sfocd-courtyard-san-francisco-downtown/), I ended up getting a free upgrade. The room was decently sized with 2 queen beds and a pull out sofa. I have my fingers crossed that I'll get an upgrade again since I'm a Gold member.

GOLD!!

If we do pre-party there, it would be for Hospitality, and we can swing by there again before Magda. If I go to Magda, I'll be drinking a lot of red bull, so the post-party may also be an option there.

chiapet
03-08-2012, 10:39 AM
See, the thing is that there are a bunch of boardies coming into town for Hospitality -- would be fun to all hang out together, but I think we have at least 5-6 people more beyond those who are posting in the thread.

I had a blast. I was a little surprised by the make up of the crowd, it seemed a lot of folks there were there to be a night club until it started clearing out a bit; but everyone seemed to be really enjoying it. Monarch's sound system was great for that bass heavy sound.

Read about it this morning.

I LOVE THIS CITY’ FESTIVAL
Posted by James McQuiston on March 11th, 2012 No Comments Printer-Friendly

If Memorial Day Weekend represents the unofficial start to summer, then this summer will be kicking off in California in a BIG way as I LOVE THIS CITY —a new Electronic Music festival event produced by Live Nation—will make its debut as a two-day festival in San Francisco.

The I LOVE THIS CITY festival will take place Friday, May 25 and Saturday, May 26 at The Lot at AT&T Park in San Francisco and features numerous stages set on the historic San Francisco waterfront. This event will be for patrons 18 and over.

Over 40 of electronic music’s top artists are confirmed for I LOVE THIS CITY including TIËSTO, along with Steve Aoki, Sebastian Ingrosso, Laidback Luke, Chuckie, Excision, Crystal Method (DJ Set), R3HAB, Kill The Noise, Brodinski, Holy Ghost!, Felix Cartal, Holy Fuck, Helicopter Showdown, Cut Chemist, NiT GriT, Shit Robot, FareOh, Picture Plane, Oliver and SOFI on numerous stages.

Multiple special guests including three major headliners will be announced on April 23.

Details of an additional West Coast appearance will be announced shortly.

Updated artist lineup, ticket and on sale information will be posted on Friday, March 16 at NOON PST at www.ilovethiscityfestival.com.

Stay tuned to www.ilovethiscityfestival.com for all the latest details on the festival including ticket prices, artist announcements, on sale information, contests and much more.

So I'll be in San Francisco from 4/15-4/17. Besides the obvious Pulp on the 17th, I'm seeing Godspeed on the 16th. Anything of note happening on the 15th, gigs or otherwise?

I had a blast. I was a little surprised by the make up of the crowd, it seemed a lot of folks there were there to be a night club until it started clearing out a bit; but everyone seemed to be really enjoying it. Monarch's sound system was great for that bass heavy sound.

Would completely agree with this. I was shocked at how packed it was when I walked in around 11 compared to the last time I was there for Max Cooper. But around 1 the place did clear out a bit and everyone who was left was getting down.

chiapet
03-11-2012, 08:21 PM
That's been the case each of the times I've been to Monarch on Friday/Saturday nights so far -- the crowd earlier in the night almost seems like people just wandering down from the bar to see what's going on, and the crowd has gotten a lot better around 12:30 or 1. I really like that place :)

James Murphy (DJ set) at the CP fest is now billed as a James Murphy + Pat Mahoney + Nancy Whang (DJ set)

Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Never seen any of them DJ.

Got nothing today regarding CP.

I wonder who the special guests are for the I Love This City thing is. I know Afrojack is one of them because of the font on the poster. The other two I can't figure out.

Also it seems like SD lineup is significantly inferior. SF lineup has big names but nothing too interesting. Crystal Method DJ set, Dirtyphonics (live), and Shit Robot are the only acts that interests me.

Seems like the contrary, I bet a lot of Sac people bought SF tix that woulda much rather bought Sac tix. SF still woulda sold out.

Fact: 18 + shows at The Factory are disgusting.

To be very fair; zombie ravers at 2 AM noisily crowding the outside of fucking underground warehouse party for Magda are equally disgusting.

Very true. Still cannot believe what a bust they both were.

Sorry to hear about the clusterfuck at the Magda afters. I got there a little before 2 and fortunately missed the chaos at the entrance and in the stairwell.

Yea, the scene at Magda was awful for us. I almost wish we'd tried a little earlier, but I'm not really sure that would have helped. I hate that events of this type in SF are so grossly oversold. Actually pretty pissed that they feel it's okay to deny entry to people who've already purchased tickets in pre-sale. I'm so over this shit. And this is the same exact thing that happened last time I bought a ticket to see Magda!

Thank god Creators Project came along and saved my weekend. Can't believe how well run that was.

creators project was awesome last night. despite feeling completely out of place for being there alone, i had a really amazing time. i expected to see more of us, ie people who won tickets but friends didn't, but the crowd seemed to know one another there. my only regret is leaving the lcd soundsystem dj set 30 minutes early. i would have stuck around the entire set but my age started to come into play and my lower back and feet started to hurt. ha. hope the rest of you guys had fun! i was actually wondering how many of you guys were in attendance last night

I left before the DJ set -- I heard it was good (and figured it would be fun), but I was just done... long weekend. :) Squarepusher and Zola Jesus were fantastic though.

i didn't know anything about squarepusher prior to the show. and considering how many people were trying to get tickets to see him in specific, it made me curious. i checked out his set while waiting in line at the bar/etc. i was definitely impressed! it makes me want to check out the rest of his work. completely understandable though, hope you enjoyed yeah yeah yeahs. it was my first time seeing them and they were more amazing than i had expected. have fun at of montreal in a couple days, that should be a sick show

Definitely a long weekend! Still not home yet. It was great hanging out with you! I'm surprised I'm able to function.

Friday night's DnB was awesome! Pissed I couldn't get into Magda even though I bought a presale. Made it to Creators for Squarepusher. Flipping killed it.

Being at a show with a bunch of my friends was a blast, even though the rest of the crowd sucked...

what did everyone think of the hospital records tour show at the factory? i loved kamo & crooked and high contrast. high contrast is an amazing dj, nothing but flawless transitions, not so much for netsky, pretty sad that he went on late and only played for 45 mins, got to chill backstage all night and got a pic with high contrast after the show, really nice guy

Sorry to hear about the trouble you guys had at Magda... I got in kinda early (12:30 or so), when I left at 3:30 there was a gnarly crowd outside. The party was just okay, the venue was pretty gross in general and the crowd was kinda aggro.

yeah, when I got there at 3, the crowd was pretty weird, and security barely had a handle on things.... and the venue, gross yeah; did anyone else's shoes get muddy??? lol. the crowd was pushy, but I always seemed to get pushed more than usual at techno shows than any other. Wonder why.

Magda was awesome though, I'm glad I stuck it out for awhile because she's was just droppin track after track of goodness graciousness.

At least you got in!
I'm trying to figure out who I need to contact to try to get my money back.

I'm still kinda hurting from the entire weekend, so my attempt at figuring this out is quite minuscule.

My shoes got destroyed, where did all that mud come from??? Lee Burridge laid it down on Saturday, played some newer tracks since the last time I heard him. He then played Sunday morning till about 11:30 when he finally sat down.

At the very least, the promoters for the Magda event need to get an earful for having terrible taste in venues, being poorly organized and effing greedy.

My shoes were also a total loss. The location of the venue no doubt contributed to the crowd problems. The prospect of drinking past 2 am in Nob Hill likely attracted a large number of people more interested in partying than techno. The Compound never suffered these types on account of its far-flung location. No one was cabbing out to Bayview on a lark. All of this could have been avoided w/ enforcement of a hard capacity cap. I'd be interested to know how many tickets were sold prior to the event.
