What a cuntfaced bullshit cocksucking system.
I was in that waiting room for 20 fucking minutes.

dorkfish
01-27-2012, 09:10 AM
axs.com has to be one of the worst ticketing sites ever created. to combat scalpers from being able to force themselves into the front of a queue (a la ticketmaster) they created a random lottery system, but still allow you to buy 8 tickets at a time.

Yeah, this thing is fucking stupid. I got lucky this time (I think, I heard a lot of horror stories from the Coachella sale about people's info going through, their cards getting charged and then being somehow left without a ticket), but it's still super retarded. I really feel terrible for you guys.

chiapet
01-27-2012, 09:13 AM
My original "waiting room" session didn't update until like 7 after. At like 10:01 I used another session and immediately got in. Their site does indeed suck (but I got tickets for me and a friend).

It's not sold out, things are just tied up! I just pulled an upper balcony ticket and only upper loge and handicap appear to be completely gone

dorkfish
01-27-2012, 09:28 AM
ga, upper/lower loge, handicap are sold out. lower balcony has singles (which are tied up). upper balcony still has a few multiple seats (which are tied up, as well).

HandBanana

Shit-eating, fart-sniffing, shit-assed cock chompers.
Fuck them til their eyes bleed.

AND they let people buy 8 tickets at a time. Hello scalpers!
Ive been going to shows all my life. Every kind of show. I have never once needed 8 tickets for anything

chiapet
01-27-2012, 09:51 AM
I wish the ticketing systems were built to be complex enough to allow different maximum ticket numbers for GA versus seated sections. I can (kind of) understand needing a block of tickets for a seated section or fully seated show. It makes sense to have one person buy for a group so you can all sit together. But for GA, I don't see why it's necessary to buy more than 2 or 4 tickets max, per person.

HandBanana
01-27-2012, 09:53 AM
OK looks like I am covered. Whew.
I still want to try to buy some of these stubhub tix, set up an in-person pickup and then beat the seller to death with an aluminum baseball bat.

That lottery shit is always stupid.
Theres nothing fair about screwing people that put the time in.

In 1995, I had a ton of friends that camped out for REM tickets that got screwed into the crap seats by the "lottery"

Luckily I realized at the last minute that there was a supermarket a few blocks away that also had a TM machine that no one really knew about.

Sorry to hear. I'm sure they release tickets come the week of/day of for Warfield. There's not one show that I've been to where the venue didn't release any tickets. I'm sure Pulp will add another CA show (whether that would be Fox Theater in Pomona or not).

NYC tickets are on sale next friday! Super stoked he's coming back:) If your SF show is associated with Vice, it'll most likely be free. They'll send you RSVP link and you just have to show up early usually. In the past, they put together wonderful free shows: Bad Brains, The Jesus Lizard, Justice, DFA 1979 and etc...

I remain convinced that britpop has never had an audience here, and even if this is the rarest of britpop acts, I'm not even convinced it will sell out. especially at $50+.

well I will eat my hat on this one.

I can't quite figure out how the britpop band that had some of the least chart success here, toured here less, and generally never had much exposure here at all (aside from Boourns' years worth of posts on this board) have the greatest demand.

but, it is encouraging. I feel like it will be a great audience.

Boourns
01-27-2012, 07:47 PM
Indeed. What are SF crowds usually like for shows like this?

chiapet
01-27-2012, 08:27 PM
Well, Pulp is pretty well known among the people I know here - I think it's the younger crowd that isn't familiar. Everyone I know who's in his 30's or older at least knows of a few songs.

I didn't think it would sell out THAT quickly though.

HandBanana
01-28-2012, 09:33 AM
I think its just word of mouth and getting passed around over the years.
A band like Pulp would fit far better (in America) now than they did in their heyday, when most American kids were still in grunge hangover mode.
I know a ton of twenty somethings that are really into Pulp and I don't live anywhere remotely cool.

Apparently the Tale of Us show is back on (for now at least?). Update on FB from Public Works: "Looks Like Matteo is going to make this tour happen now. Will keep you updated."
That's a little confusing. Matteo wasn't on the tour at all up to this point... So what's the story with a visa issue? (As they previously claimed Matteo was missing due to an injury). Wonder if it's just Matteo now, or both of them?

Not sure whether I'm going or not...

Oh and apparently 222 Hyde is ready for re-opening? Saw mention of an event there in just under 2 weeks and their site has events listed there starting this week....

As someone who has taken the bar and passed, concerts in June are very doable as long as you drink in moderation. In fact I highly recommended it as an activity to get your mind off of the bar. Your brain will thank you. July is when you start feeling the time pressure.

I don't know about this tour, but yes, there is usually a pit in front of the stage as far as I know, though it's small an impossibly difficult to get tickets to.

Edit:

This show does have GA, and amazingly limited to two tickets per person with ID at the venue. Still be nearly impossible to get, but at least they won't all go to scalpers.

Ya, I finally stumbled across that one. I haven't seen them since the Greek (LA) in 09, which for me was much more fun than the Coachella 04 fiasco. A friend of mine had a blast catching them at SummerStage in NYC a couple years back. Given my experience at the Greek, I figured it'd be a fun show to hit... maybe they're just hit-or-miss, or perhaps people are just bored with watching them play Yoshimi every time.

Windish rarely updates bios. Shobaleader One was 2010, and I'm pretty sure that he played new Squarepusher material at one of his warehouse shows a few months back. My guess is that it'll be him and a live drummer.

I am completely behind whatever it brings. Have been listening to Jenkinson for 15+ years and have never had a chance to see him perform. My main concern is how tickets/RSVPs will go down, I'm a little worried this will end up being very costly or some impossible free RSVP scenario.

A little paranoia can be useful. I've been screwed out of tickets before when my registered email wasn't included in the initial outgoing burst of notifications. To alleviate the chances of that happening in the future, I tend to register a few different emails.

I'm thinking of heading up to the Lana Del Ray show. How early would I need to get there?

Amoeba In-Store shows can be crowded, but you don't have to get there all that early to get an acceptable spot. I have no idea how popular Lana Del Ray is, but I've never been shut out of an SF Amoeba In-Store show and I've seen it super packed too.

AlecEiffel
02-03-2012, 10:09 AM
Yeah, that would be my guess. If you watch that Live From New York City concert from 2000 there are people sitting behind the stage and Bruce gives his attention to them quite a bit. I sat behind the stage for Muse and that ended up being the best tickets possible, you're pretty damn close. Got GA for San Jose, it looks like the whole floor is GA so I'll probably have to get there really early to make it worth it.

Also anyone going to the Beer Week Nightlife with Noise Pop event at the Academy of Sciences on Thursday? Looks pretty cool:

In honor of SF Beer Week, sample brews from local masters Speakeasy Brewing, Trumer Pilsner, 21st Amendment, Anchor Steam, Mad River Brewing Company, Drake's Brewing, Bear Republic Brewing, Santa Cruz Ale Works, Lagunitas Brewing, Berryessa Brewing Co., and Marin Brewing Co, Moylan's and gain some insight into the brewing process. Live music by Class Actress, presented by Noise Pop: think Depeche Mode meets early Madonna and Five Star, as heard on the radio in the leather backseat of a cab. Led by frontwoman Elizabeth Harper, they will grace the stage with a sound New York Magazine describes as “unabashedly sick electro-pop beats juxtaposed with coy, romantically depressed vocals.” In honor of Noise Pop's upcoming 20th anniversary, take a trip down memory lane with posters and photography from festivals past, and meet poster artists Lil Tuffy, Alan Hynes, Small Stakes (Jason Munn), GigArt (Gregg Gordon), Alan Forbes, and Monkey Ink (John Howard) as you view their art. Additional music by Epicsauce DJs, plus a Painted Palms DJ set.

I keep thinking that Hospitality is on the 17th and that the 16th is on Thursday. BAH. Insanity all around that night.

^^ I've had the same problem, I was really thrilled about Lindstrom before realizing it was all the same night.

Riva Starr is on the 15th which IS Thursday. I'm definitely going to that.

Anyone down for a preparty before Hospitality? I was debating on getting a room at the Courtyard on 2nd St., cause, well, the drive home to Fremont sucks after a night in San Fran.

Anyone going to Islands on 3/13? I just bought a ticket for the early show. It's at Hotel Utah....I've never even heard of that venue before.

Hotel Utah can be fun. It'll probably be uncomfortably cramped, though, so if you get a good spot, hold on to it.

Hotel Utah serves really good pub food until 8pm. Could be a decent excuse to get there early.

It's an early show -- I think it starts at 7:15 or something. So I will definitely try to do that, thanks.

I was thinking of it. I didn't know it was so early. that's encouraging, actually.

I've only seen local bands at hotel utah. islands were playing larger venues than that recently. I also expect it will get a bit cramped.

I hope it's the Islands you guys are expecting. Not saying it's not, but something smells fishy there. I only thought lesbian singer-songwriter types performed at Hotel Utah...pay-to-play at that. Not too many Canadian indie darlings show up there, typically.

Is anyone planning on hitting The Polyphonic Spree show at GAMH on 4/3? Tix go on sale Sunday, fyi.

I saw Black Francis at Hotel Utah a few years ago, the place is tiny and if it's packed I believe getting stuck around a corner is a possibility.

I saw Why? at Hotel Utah years ago. They get completely random bookings.

Doesn't look like it's been mentioned, Madness at the Warfield on 4/19. Squeeze at the Fillmore on the same night.
