So M83 announced a Seattle date on 4/26. I don't doubt that they'll be back in SF as well. I wonder what venue, though.

Aww, too bad that isn't in SF that day. My birthday :)

Is a The Juan MacLean DJ set any good? I'm interested in that, but leery about a DJ set at Shine (not that there's anything wrong about Shine, but it being there, and only $8, makes me wonder if it will be less than).

Funny you should say that. I don't like the sound of it at all. When it comes to dancing or seeing a live show, I'm suspicious of any venue that advertises itself as a "cocktail lounge". Bottle service is the nail in the coffin.

Edit: http://www.tablehopper.com/lush/meet-monarch-flying-open-in-november/ ... this description assuages some of my fears. Wait and see I guess.

Wow, I might have to go and get my Florida breaks on. I learned how to spin on Icey records. They all have the same basic break beat that you could just go from one to another. He made so many records between all his different personas, you could do marathon sessions if you wanted.

I saw them at OSL this year. They had the full band and back up singers and it looked like it was going to be tight, but it fell flat. They will probably be much better at the Indy though.

Nico Jaar was superb last night. I can't believe how much more I appreciate his music live (I'd complained before on one of the other threads that his music gets a little too same-ish for me to listen to at home). Looking at it from a new perspective this morning. :)

It looks like Ame presales might be up:

I recorded this opening to Boys Noize's set at the Mezzanine... I was front row center, and the audio is actually really good and not blown out or distorted. I'm surprised I was able to hold the camera that steadily. This was my view for most of the show! This video starts literally when he walked onto stage so the first few minutes is of them transitioning from the opener act to Boys Noize.

anyone know what time the parking meters stop running in Oakland near the Fox or could offer any suggestions for a lot that doesn't price gouge? never had the car over there, always take BART, so just clueless on this...

will be my first time seeing Morrissey! Can't wait.

I've never paid for parking near the Fox. There's free spots down the street if you hunt around 19th between the Fox and Franklin. Or elsewhere. It's easier to park in Oakland than SF.

Yes, its a fair assumption. But if he gives us a 2.5 or 3 hr set, people will be so overjoyed that you'll find a ride home!

*Also, the Fox knows that more than half the folks are probably coming from SF and are sensitive to the BART schedule

Thats awesome.

I've been hyping up Terminal 2 to everyone. Thats the nicest airport terminal I have ever seen. It feels like a lounge and the eats are top notch. Not to mention the cool vinyl and record player exhibit they have there.

Its crazy to be excited about an airport terminal, but anyone that has gone through it, knows I'm not crazy.

Lark Creek is just an airport bar, I mean, it's nothing I'd go out of my way to go to in the real world. But as far as airport food, it's good. (Disclaimer: I"ve only had breakfast there). Their Bloody Marys are great, and honest to god, the first time I went there, the bartender was a midget. He had to stand on a step behind the bar to serve me my bloody mary. I wanted to pick him up and hug him but he was actually quite stocky for a little person!

GeezrRckr
12-02-2011, 02:48 PM
Lark Creek is the only airport restaurant where you need to make reservations (to eat) a week ahead of time. Holy hour wait, man.

My favorite part of T2 is the free hand jobs you can get in the Virgin America lounge. They implemented that right after their massive website revamp debacle last month (which is still broken, btw). That, plus the 5k "we're sorry" miles they gave Elevate members has almost made me get over not being able to print my boarding pass at home.

Uh, not really. It's sort of the opposite over here at the real untzy shows.

I think the Lights Down Low party might be the reason in and of itself, since it's usually at SOM Bar, where girls go just because, and because Sleazmore/Eli Glad play electro-house.

Also, PW could just be making a name for itself as a "night-club." I met some guys there who were just out to be "out clubbing" and were complaining about the lack of hip-hop.

How do you "meet" people at these things? I just walk around stunned and maybe dance idiotically and occasionally have conversations like "please stop spilling your drink on me over and over again you intolerable drunk cunt."

It does seem like PW is trying to be a bit "clubby," I don't mind that for the moment as long as the crowds are MOSTLY people who are interested in the acts rather than just "going clubbing." The shows there never seen to sell out, and so many that I've gone to have been... empty-ish. I don't want it to turn into a douchy place, but I want it to succeed as a venue.

Is it misguided to speculate on whether or not there will be a G!YBE SF date to go along with their Big Sur appearance?

what was wrong with optimo at PW?

it was upstairs only and it was over sold. my friend bought a ticket at the door and he should not have been able to do that. way too many people. even though there was nothing going on downstairs they still wouldn't let patrons use the extra restrooms. so it was about a 30 minute wait to use those shitty unisex bathrooms upstairs.

the music, however, was great.

Not at all. Hopefully, there will be some good shows announced in the week between the two Coachellas. I'm bummed to be missing Metronomy and GYBE.

I agree that when the loft-only events sell well, the logistics of the venue sucks. (When it's a fairly empty room, it's GREAT). Also the venue has done a terrible job of designating entrances when they have separate events downstairs and upstairs (there have been multiple times when I've gone and they had no signs posting saying which was what...).

Optimo must've been an ICEE HOT event. Don't know why they want to keep that thing so freaking small.

Hey Zimmy, I am the promoter in charge of this event. I doubt it will sell out, but it will be $20 at the door day of the event so your call :) Glad to finally be bringing Max to San Francisco and I hope you all can attend!

So there's another Coachella band.

Excellent. I'll just stress, again, how fantastic they were at GAMH.
Oh shit, I missed this. I'd love to see them again (yes, they were great at GAMH). I'm going to buy tix for this on Sunday at the box office. If anyone wants me to pick them up one, PM me.

I hope you're able to get off work to see that show! There will be a few of us going. The promoter (like the board name btw) was nice enough to already give a set time of 11PM-1AM... good to know since I have to work early the next day.

Cool, thanks. I don't mind dropping an extra five for good talent.

Btw, the airfare for SFO->PSP is pretty reasonable right now. Just bought the last flight out on 4/12 on Alaska for $99 and the 3p return on 4/16 for $189 on United. If you plan on flying down, this will likely bet your best fares.

If you like the new CD, I'd say go for it, otherwise not much of a point. I can't see them playing more than a couple songs from Cross.

not sure if this has been mentioned but there'll be a free hardfest show next week in sf (12/16) but details have yet to be announced. apparently it's a free show if you rsvp to the event. chicago and ny gets a dj set by the bloody beetroots and a performance (?) by james murphy

justice is really awesome live. you should consider going to the show. i've seen them twice in support for cross and the show was loud as fuck. obviously the second album is a little softer but i feel like they'll approach this tour with an alive 2007 feel and mix songs from the first and second album together. maybe i'm wrong. only time will tell
