From the Mogwai thread they said that they came on at 9:10 in Denver, so I am thinking we should try to get in by 9 at the latest.

I'm up for some drinks before hand. There's a bunch of bars around the Regency but I have never been to any so I can't recommend.

What do you guys think of Above & Beyond? I've heard good things about AB, but haven't heard many tracks. Worth $30 for a Santa Cruz show?

Above & Beyond are fine mass-market trance, but even if I still lived in Santa Cruz, I'd think twice about this; in thirteen years of living there, I never once saw a show at the Civic where I thought the venue didn't swallow up the atmosphere. It's second to the Shoreline in my competition for least-favorite-local-venue.

My first time actually enjoying a TV on the Radio performance! They really need to stick to small venues like the Indy. "Love Dog" in the encore may be one of the best song's I've ever seen live, it was mesmerizing.

How was Mogwai? Haven't seen them in at least 4+ years...

I want in to this show for free by showing my stub from the show where they said they were going to do this and did not. I think it even said it on my ticket stub "The Wailers perform Uprising" as well as on the marquee at the venue.

Fantastic! It's weird that Real Estate is headlining a few days later, they toured with Woods last year.

Oh, and Yuck is a few days before this, too. That will be a nice week at Indy.

Mogwai rocked it out hard last night. The show was really good and the sound was extremely loud. I liked the Regency other than the expensive beers. It was fun to hang out with everyone again!

Thats good to hear about TVOTR last night. I'm seeing them tonight and I can't wait. I wonder if they are going to play the same set list, or switch it up. Do you remember when they came on?

By the way, I have an extra ticket for tonight's show if anyone wants it at face. Send me a pm.

I actually have yet to hear the new album. The songs I didn't recognize were great though so hopefully you get the ones you want. Off the top of my head the main ones I loved were Red Dress, Cryin', and Love Dog. They owned those songs.

The bass player was great also, they didn't seem to miss a beat.

Holy shit thats atrocious. Whats up with the eye mask?

TVOTR last night was great. Best of the four times I had seen them. Really strong set, mostly old stuff. I think they only played 4 or 5 new songs. The Indy rocked hard once again. Might have been the loudest show I had been to in awhile and we were right up by the front. My ears were definitely ringing until I got to sleep. Good times.

GeezrRckr

^dude, wtf.

Yes, TVOTR's set was solid, but defnitely too loud. I think that's part of the problem with their shows being so inconsistent. If they would just turn down the guitars, the vocals would be more balanced and their sound, overall, would be much more enjoyable. My $.02. Regardless...they've stepped up their game and this bodes well for their upcoming headlining sets.

And, Joey, they don't have a new bass player ya dummy. They moved Jaleel Bunton to Bass/Keys and got a new drummer (who is outstanding, btw).

And, there's this that showed up in my inbox just now. Discounted tix to the A-Trak/Kid Sister/GLK show. $23 w/fees here (http://atrakfriendsandfamily.eventbrite.com/). I'm still pondering this one....is anyone holding a ticket?

IO Echo or whatever their name is were great, TVotR were incredible. Redeemed themselves from Coachella 2009. Although I miss the horn section. Tunde is a great frontman. And yes DLZ was a pleasant surprise. Couldn't believe they didn't play Second Song, but there's a reason to see them again.

There's a couple of bars near by. When I saw Rusko last month at a nearby bar, the bartender was over her job and was quitting that night so she gave everyone free drinks. I got hooked up with a couple Stoli shots, and a few beers. The Uptown bar is chill.

I'm down with some drinks before of Montreal. Are there some good bars around the Fillmore?

So the Fillmore doesn't even have their own website? Thats pretty busted.

I guess if the show starts at 9, with two opening bands, of Montreal wont be coming on any earlier than 10:30. Another late night, glad its Friday!

Can't wait to pop my Fillmore cherry!

I'm going to guess not till >11p. If either of you get there on the earlier side, if you go to the cage (where the bands do load-in), you can ask the security guy to tell you the set times (if you can't see them yourself...the sheet is always hanging on the wall).

I'm thinking we can meet at Bruno's bar (on Fillmore, south of the venue) at around 9:30-10ish (I have no interest in the support tonite).

EDIT: another option is to meet in the bar at Yoshi's if either Bruno's is too crowded or you don't like the vibe (it's not much of one).

Anyone else going to The Cars tonight (besides CCF)?
I might stop by 103 Hariet afterwards for the Adam Freeland show.
Then Oyster Fest tomorrow, and Bay to Breakers on Sunday.

So PW installed 2 new speakers on the main dance floor (recently, I was told). I hadn't been there in months before last night and really did notice an improved sound. They also seem to have gotten rid of all of the speaker/cubby things. I felt a bit slighted by what I saw of Wolf + Lamb vs Soul Clap, not because they were bad, but because I could only stay til midnight and it was a 6 hour set so clearly I couldn't fully commit to the journey. I went to the upstairs room for the first time to enjoy some of Richard Korach.

Shaker and I were grooving on the floor right near Trick. I saw 2 guys in red short sleeve shirts and one guy in a red vest...A-Ron? And I saw plenty of generic dudes.

I need to go to PW for a bass heavy set.

Yea, I can't imagine how anyone makes it past the park.

It was terrible. My friend was adamant about getting the medal, so I did the entire 12km with him, plus however long it took us to walk to the race from Fisherman's Wharf and back (until we found a taxi). I am probably one of the most out of shape people there is. I should've just told him to meet me back at mile 3 when he was done, and just continued partying in the streets.

I mean, it COULD be one if you wanted it to be. But more like a bro date

I haven't seen it yet either! I might be in, it'll depend on how late I have to work on Monday.

So Nite Jewel is opening for James Blake and she kind of sucks. At least I found her incredibly tedious when she opened for Panda Bear. Are a number of us going to this show? And would anyone like to meet at Cafe Amsterdam beforehand for some beer?

I'm down.

So, this is free apparently - http://publicsf-20110617.eventbrite.com/

Kevin Saunderson for $0 sounds like a good deal to me.

I had been thinking about that... same night as Shpongle (which I already bought a ticket to see). I wonder if it would be worth trying to go after, free sounds like it might hit capacity.

Damnit, I haven't seen Kevin Saunderson in forever. Too bad we'll be on family vacation in boring Maui.

lol. I'm mostly annoyed because my Family never thinks these things through. For instance, this trip to Maui will cost marginally less than a trip to Sydney would. So why the hell are we going to Hawai'i?

Robin

I'll still take your place. I've never been to Hawaii.

My years sailing the high seas with the Coast Guard and the Maritime Academy and subsequent port calls in paradise makes it difficult to get excited about vacations centered around beaches and jungles.

It's a mass marketed electronic festival touring US amphitheaters this Summer. Here's the thread about it:

It's also the only way to see Booka Shade's new live set-up in the States this Summer :(

You will likely have to hook GGG up with a copy of your driver's license and maybe a statement saying you authorize him to collect your ticket.

GoodGirlGalaxy
05-21-2011, 11:09 AM
Yeah, usually you just call the box office and tell them you want to switch over your ticket to a different name. Give them the new name, and you'll be set. I'll buy you four beers next time you're around, that should make up for the cost of the ticket.

GoodGirlGalaxy

M.A.N.D.Y. were very good the other night, but goddamn does Vessel suck. It wasn't that the clientele were annoying or that the bartenders were bad, it was the terrible line management at the front door and the piss poor excuse for a dance floor.

guedita
05-21-2011, 11:40 AM
Were they not letting people in to keep up the appearance that it's a swanky ass nightclub?

fikus222

Something like that. They had TWO lines for bottle service and only one for everyone else. We had our tickets in hand and still waited 45mins to get in.

Ugh. I've never been to Vessel. We're going on Wednesday for James Zabiela. I am hoping that since it's on a weeknight, it's not so bad.

Last night was my first time at Public Works. Loved the venue itself, bar service was good, sound was good. Unfortunately the crowd was shit and was insistent on talking (shouting) over music the whole fucking time. Not many people dancing at all. I'm eager to go back sometime for a better act (well, one that should attract a better crowd) to see if it's any better.

bmack86
05-21-2011, 12:14 PM

Cara was correct. She needs a copy of your driver's license, which you have to sign authorizing her by name to pick up your ticket.

guedita
05-21-2011, 12:27 PM
They are being that strict because the JB show (along with GYBE/AC) is a 2-ticket limit, will call w/ID only show to prevent scalping.

Heidi - it bums me out that the crowd was so terrible for you last night.
