I can be dense sometime. I'm glad we are all in agreement.

Is anyone else thinking about going to TVOTR? If so which night? The are not the best live band but I love their music enough to overlook the issues.
They killed it last time they were at Indy. They're a better small venue live band, I think.

I have seen TVOTR twice, Opening for Franz Ferdinand at the Bill Graham Civic and Coachella 2009 and thought they sucked royally live.

I do like this band a lot though and would love to give them a shot at the Indy to see if it improves the experience of seeing them live.

gbgbgb
04-05-2011, 09:09 AM
yeah i noticed that also. if you look at the tour flyer it shows harvard bass at the SF show. on HBs FB it says something like thank you tuscon next stop san luis which follows the WG tour dates. i dont know what time HB or WG would come on, will this go till 2am? havent been to RS in like 2 years and never been on a thursday.

GeezrRckr
04-05-2011, 09:16 AM
TVOTR is definitely inconsistent...both, live and on their recordings. The best set I've seen them do was at TI Fest a few years ago. The others were either meh or awful. I'm sure they will kill it at the Indy.

shakermaker113

I've seen them three times, and two were completely forgettable and once was pretty good but not great. But I think they will be better in a small club, and I figure they have all had a few more years to flesh out the live sound so maybe they will sound better on this tour.

Yeah, it's hard to buy tix to a show this far in advance for that weekend, eh. I bet they are having this onsale now because they need the revenue (after the AC show was cancelled/refunds made). I hope this does the trick...those guy at HML run on a razor thin margin. I may buy a pair and if something else comes up for that weekend that prevents me from attending, I'll just count it as a donation. They are getting whacked by this road failure.

Good point, and if tickets are only $25... I think my bigger issue would be getting there and making a weekend of it. (I mean, my concern would be whether I want to commit to doing that).

CrystalCastlesFreak, were you too incredibly wasted to notice whether or not Wolfgang brought the lighting rig he has been touring with?

gbgbgb
04-08-2011, 12:13 PM
I was in the building for 90 seconds but had to leave due to family stuff beyond my control but i can tell you that yes Harvard Bass opened and yes the lighting rig was there. The rig was not nearly as big as i expected it to be (i never saw it in action). I had a big group of friends there whos taste i trust and they said WG brought it just as hard as he did at any of his other shows (coachella, edc, spookfest, ultra). They did say they could tell he had put more time in to creating a full set opposed to playing just one show since obvi hes touring.

CCF, were you wearing a black deadmau5 shirt with the green pixely face on the front? if so and you are not very tall with dark geled hair you were in line behind/inthe middle of us for a few minutes. i remember thinking hm a deadmau5 shirt thats random.

I didnt say anything bad about deadmau5 or his clothing line. it just kind of poped out at me since we were at a club show and not a fest or something like that. id say it kind of like wearing an A's hat to a Giants game when they arnt playing each other but they did just have animal rights together and its not like they dont get along or anything (rusko v deadmau5). it just caught my eye.

i saw wolfgang in san luis obispo on tuesday. i too was surprised by how small the setup was, as it fit in a tiny club here in town. he was throwing it down and the lights were pretty cool. he was stoked to play here too cuz he grew up in the area and it was a sold out show, but such a shitty sound system that it definitely lessened the experience

Actually, it's not necessarily 0%. Interpol's new bass player was the TM for Blonde Redhead just prior. It could happen...but, are they even in the same vicinity that day? This sort of prior effort is what separates Dorkfish from the rest of you rubes.

The Encores were strong, people were gettin' down! I thought the hanging lights on the stage were kind of hilarious, after a while Josh got sick of the lights dangling so close to his face he just ripped it off the string and through it into the audience, Rock star!

I've never seen them before but I can easily tell that they could have played an epic show. The chemistry in the band is spot on, but I think towards about midset they started zoning out. Some solos were too long, almost like rolling tangents. Also, what was up with that one song where they played the same 2 chords over and over for like a full 5 mins straight? Over all though, Josh Hommes is an AMAZING guitarist, I'll give this band a second chance in the future.

I am ecstatic that I finally got to see Pacific Theme performed by Broken Social Scene. That and Cause=Time were the only reasons worth going to the show tonight. All of the songs off of their newest album are good, but eh... And Anthems of a 17 Year Old was TERRIBLE. I think they played it a bit uptempo? Either way, it was really not great. The TI performance of it was way, way, better.

Anybody going to The Kills on May 11th? Missed them at Coachella and have been really digging Midnight Bloom recently, trying to figure out whether to pull the trigger or not.

his set is 12:45-2:15

Is this still true to the best of your knowledge? Regarding Adam Freeland on 5/13.

And do you know what BLVD's set time is?

Jel and dos one playing the elbow room may 9th $10
Maybe we'll get some themselves. Also on the bill is a great mc ofnazareth and a twist to the show, monbon, who is a very talented guitarist/singer

I'll see if I can find some recent recordings of FS sets. However, I don't mind Ruby Skye all that much, the crowd depends upon the artist. Sometimes, there are worse crowds at The Mezzanine and Mighty.

I was actually hoping BFD would have *something* I was interested in -- it's practically the only event I catch each year with my south bay friends. But there is absolutely nothing on the lineup this year.
