Oakland, probably ends around 12. But then I have to get our gear home and stuff. I'll see him another time, at least he's local.

When did they end their set?

They ended at 2:30 am then the DJ's that were spinning before CM came out came back on again.

Oh god, Fischerspooner at the Fillmore last fall was the absolute worst crowd I've ever experienced.

Also could have sworn tickets were at least ten dollars more then, hmmm.

04-28-2010, 02:41 PM
i found that show to be really lame. unless you like overly dramatic, yappy drama queens who now and then play a song you might like in between their fashion show (yes, i know that's kind of their point, but at least play some of your fucking hits).

once was enough.

BlackSwan

Fischerspooner does not seem worth seeing at all.

is anyone going to the Oysterfest? Cake and a couple other decent bands are playing. i've never been so don't know the venue nor how long set lists are. for $30, it seems a bit too high to take the risk. there's a "discount code" field for tix but i couldn't find one so don't know what that might be.

has anyone gone to this before? worth it?

http://www.oreillysoysterfestival.com/

EDIT: i heard back that Cake is getting a full 90-minute set! hmmm.

A-Ron
04-28-2010, 03:18 PM
Not worth it imo, unless you really like the bands playing.

Its a huge clusterfuck of typical North Beach and Marina folks getting trashed. You still have to pay for Oysters and the drinks, which aren't cheap at all. I usually sneak in with my own beer and meet folks I know there. Its less of a concert and more of a really big frat party. It use to be waaaay better when it was free and in North Beach.

GeezrRckr
04-28-2010, 03:21 PM

okay, i heard back from my contact at Blasthaus. a couple things:
1) they are nearly sold out for the Twelves/Grum show. so, who is going? i want to go but i have los campesinos tix that same night. he says the Twelves won't go on till < 12:30 so i think i can swing both. anyone want to join me for LC before? james is stuck in london past then now.

2) the Yeasayer show is going to be SOON! he wouldn't tell me when, but he did say "soon" when i checked to make sure it wasn't during the week i'm out of town.

there you have it.

Probably RSVP.

Also, blasthaus tweeted:

"Coming soon... FREE SHOW, free drinks, and much much more featuring Brooklyn’s psychedelic-pop troupe, YEASAYER! Stay tuned for more info!"

So I'm guessing the sponsor is someone like Fernet Branca, a sweet tea vodka, or Colt 45.

shame you didn't see them in their prime. wow, were they something. what tour did you see them on?

who knows...maybe this new LP will mark their resurgence (in the live format; their studio work still excites me). but, despite lacking their former energy, they do compensate for it fairly effectively with a an amazing stage production. it's something.

I'll give them a listen. I've only been to one Stern Grove show, Aimee Mann and Seu Jorge. The show was during the last World Cup and Brazil played that day, to the delight of the many Brazilians in attendance, good times. The Stern Grove is a cool spot to see a show, I just wish their schedule was more attractive this Summer.

1) they are nearly sold out for the Twelves/Grum show. so, who is going? i want to go but i have los campesinos tix that same night. he says the Twelves won't go on till < 12:30 so i think i can swing both. anyone want to join me for LC before? james is stuck in london past then now.

Yeah, but I think after 11 you're not guaranteed to get in even if you purchased a ticket in advanced.

Does anyone know what time Grum goes on?

WHAT? Why? That's absurd.

If you come after 11 with a ticket, you have priority in getting in, but you still have to wait till someone leaves.

How Blasthaus events at Mighty usually work is only ticket holders can get in before 11 (or whatever time they choose, usually it's 11), then after 11 they let in the people with out tickets to fill the club.

THURSDAY, JUNE 3: THE HUNDRED YEARS IN THE HANDS (NY) live. More info coming, there might be some surprises this night.! There are no advance tickets available for this event, all tickets will be sold at the door. Doors at 10 PM, 18+.

I am guessing they are trying to get Holy Ghost! or James Murphy or both to DJ at Popscene that night. LCD + Holy Ghost! are playing the Fillmore that night.

just sent to my inbox re: Twelves show tonite:

TICKETS MUST BE CLAIMED BY 11.30PM to guarantee IMMEDIATE ADMISSION. We will hold space for everyone who claims their ticket(s) before 11:30PM.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU ARRIVE AFTER 11:30PM? After 11.30PM, we can no longer limit capacity for you and we will start admitting general admission guests up to our capacity. If you arrive after MIGHTY has reached capacity, you will be given PRIORITY ADMISSION. WHAT IS PRIORITY ADMISSION? Once MIGHTY reaches capacity, those holding ticket(s) will be admitted before those in the general admission or guest list lines, but you must wait for people already admitted to leave the club to reestablish available capacity. WHAT IF TICKETS FOR A SPECIFIC EVENT ARE SOLD OUT? We only sell 50% of our capacity in advance for each event. If you do not have a ticket, we strongly suggest arriving by 10:00PM to ensure entry. NO REFUNDS. All sales are final and you must agree to all the terms as outlined above and in the Terms of Purchase agreement on this form.

2 stabbings + 1 fatal shooting = Extinction by City

S.F. sues to shut notorious Suede nightclub
April 16, 2010|By John Coté,
Chronicle Staff Writer

After more than two years of stabbings, shootings and unruly crowds, Suede may be closed for good.

San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera filed a lawsuit Thursday seeking a court order permanently closing the troubled Fisherman's Wharf nightclub, which became the poster child - some say scapegoat - for the city's nightlife problems after a Feb. 7 shootout in front of the venue left one man dead and four wounded.

can't find shit about this venue other than this obscure quote from wiki:

The first Trips Festival held at the Longshoremen's Hall in January 1966, saw The Grateful Dead and Big Brother and the Holding Company play to an audience of 10,000, giving many their first encounter with both acid rock, with its long instrumentals and unstructured jams, and LSD.

GeezrRckr

i got there at about 7:30ish and the line was very reasonable (but i was on the list so it didn't matter to me). i'd say there were about 600 people there and there was room for more.

this venue was pretty cool with quite a bit of history (hosted the early acid test shows in the 60's). trippy roof designs, a balcony (which was closed; could have sat another 300 people, according to the spokesman for the union that i chatted with). the sound was phenomenal...wow! they (microsoft) went all out renting a huge stage; lights and a fabulous PA system. plus, the 3 free drinks were a great bonus.

Yeasayer got on right at 9 and played a 60-minute set. great mix of Cymbals and Odd Blood. shame more (none?) of you didn't make it. they were into it and cracked some funny jokes about the whole big, marketing stuff going on for the show. just fantastic.

i spoke with one of the Blasthaus promoters and they may end up using that room for future shows (hope so). she also said that they are going to try to bring The Twelves back in July for a show at the Mezz. i really love Blasthaus..they deserve a lot of props for what they pull off with just two people (and one of them lives in frickin' Croatia fer fux sake).

I ended up making it out there too! Didn't leave San Jose till about 630 so got there an our later, a long line was already formed of course was a little scared. The wind chill was pretty unbearable but finally got in around 830ish. Thought the 3 free drink wristband was pretty awesome and bonus that I went with a friend who didn't drink so 6 drinks for me! Safe to say I don't remember anything that happened after the show.

Definitely enjoyed not having an opener and having the band we were there to see go on promptly even though I was still in the bar line. They played an awesome mix of stuff and the lead singer was pretty funny mentioning how this was a free show. I had a freakin blast and loved the space and the amount of people in there, hope they do this shit again!

Well, since it's not announced, yet, I would imagine that it could be at least a few weeks. I don't think that they'd put a hot show on sale on Memorial Weekend.

It looks like Chromeo is going to be at Outside Lands so it seems somewhat unlikely to me, but who knows. That's a silly reason for your friend to not see the Chem Bro's!

don't know if you are already planning on being up here, but check CL starting 3-4 days before. another thing that's worked for me is to show up at the venue and sweet talk the box office person into selling you a willcall tic that goes unclaimed. that works nearly every time.

Okay, found from a friend of a friend who works for APE that no Chromeo. Time for me to get a new friend. I'll just take my coworker. We built the FOX and can get all access for shows, so eat that Chromeo lover.

I'm kind of going up there on a whim, I'll be leaving LA that afternoon and heading back that same night after the show, don't know if I can risk that. Might have to go through Ebay/Stubhub... MEH

It is possible that we may just get "A Night with The Chemical Brothers" kind of show. Like, the first set will be the new album with the visuals, and then the second set will be all the crowd pleasers? Their site makes it sound like the new shows are going to involve playing the the whole album, but I could also be completely wrong.

dorkfish
05-13-2010, 11:15 AM
Well, all the demos of the visuals on that guy's blog with the tour dates were showing crowd pleasers, so we'll get both. I suspect that they will do a normal set instead of a full album opener.

^that would be really cool.

and, i've seen Chromeo a couple times now (Coachella & APW) and both times they were super fun. i don't listen to their studio stuff though (same deal w/Ghostland).

Are these the videos you are referring to?: http://web.me.com/mattcoxy/Site/Blog/Entries/2010/5/9_Programming_Audio_Video_in_London.html. They won't load for me, and I want to know if I should be making more of an effort to make them work.

The two videos on that page just show off equipment that they're building their live show around. Nothing thrilling. No music.

This link is kinda neat, but don't go out of your way to watch. It's just a visual sync test with Hey Boy Hey Girl. They have a virtual stage and virtual lighting to represent their setup.
