I just took a total shot in the dark. I actually was going to ask about how much thursday night RS shows are when I asked what time the headliner usually comes on but I forgot. Its still well worth the $$$ and the brutal friday morning for me.

PRINCE ANNOUNCES HIS FIRST WELCOME 2 AMERICA WEST COAST DATES

2 NIGHTS AT THE ORACLE ARENA IN OAKLAND

NEXT WEEK!
...
FEBRUARY 21st and FEBRUARY 23rd

TICKETS ON SALE THIS FRIDAY AT NOON AT LIVENATION.COM

“He had the crowd panting as soon as he hit the stage…It was unbelievably great. Do you go to a Prince show for predictable consistency? Ah, no. You go for moments of divinely inspired madness — and last night, he delivered as many of those as a fan could expect.” – Rolling Stone

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (February 16, 2011) Prince has declared a string of Purple days in Oakland, bringing his extraordinary Welcome 2 America tour to the West Coast for the first time with the announcement of two nights next week at the Oracle Arena on February 21 and 23. Show time for both events is 8:00pm. The announcement comes on the heels of six incredible shows in the New York area that wowed fans and raving critics with his singular stage presence, leaving them screaming for more each and every night.

Tickets for the Oakland shows go on sale this Friday, February 18th at 12:00 Noon PST at Ticketmaster.com and LiveNation.com.

The New York Daily News raved, “Prince worthy of all royal accolades…The hit-friendly show had a kinetic confidence and racing pace that spoke of his singular place in pop history,” while the New York Times said “It’s easy to envision Prince as another Chuck Berry or James Brown, barnstorming for decades to come.” The Star-Ledger encouraged fans to see the show with their review — “Any doubt that the diminutive singer could still bring the heat was put to rest at the explosive concert that kicked off the Welcome 2 America tour…Prince, remarkably, remains at the height of his powers. He's a national treasure. Catch him while you can.”

It sort of depends on the show. Arcade Fire sold out fairly quickly but then their second date didn't sell out. Florence and the Machine just won a Grammy though, so I think their popularity is at a peak right now. I'd recommend buying sooner rather than later.

so, this is strange...the pricing we had the other day was 250 on down with four tiers (which is consistent with the color-coding above). but, on the TM site now, the upper tier is only $238 face (283 w/fees). Brad, care to shed any light on this? i'm hoping that the loges on top/bottom are that 2nd tier pricing as those will be pretty pristine locations.

dorkfish
02-18-2011, 10:45 AM
I'm guessing that the VIP tier isn't included in the $238 tier. Probably will cost more. Floor prolly is the $238 tickets. Could be wrong, though. Ticketmaster face/fees fluctuate for big shows sometimes. I have no clue what their crazy sliding scale is. Nobody's ever cracked that code.

Chromeo was awesome, those guys really put on a show. After we went and checked out Bart B More at Rickshaw and got way more than i was expecting. He was on fire all night, from the minute we walked in the door till the soundboard cut him off halfway though Yeah as his encore. Great night of music.

I kind of wish I had gone to that. I convinced my friends to try something new for the first time and then didn't know of a good electronic show to take them to....so we went to 222 Hyde where 80's records were being spun.

Also, I guess 222 Hyde's new capacity is 49 (It used to be 118) because the Fire Marshals came in one night and flipped out. I also talked to the owner about potentially throwing a party there....but he was really, really drunk so couldn't really answer my questions completely.

i talked to Nisus for a while last night whose actually a really nice guy. i had no clue he played in the heineken dome at coachella the past 2 years. it sounds like hes going to be opening for almost all the upcoming blasthaus shows which was good news to me. he said he wasn't too sure about the boys noize show because BN might bring some BNR records guys.

blasthaus has really been bringing heat with their most recent bookings, twelves, bart b more, harvard bass, boys noize and switch.

Harvard Bass was very entertaining at edc, im really looking forward to him in sf.

Boys Noize.

Cara, the choices I was considering for that night are Gold Panda @ 103 Harriet and Beats Antique @ Fillmore. There were at least two other interesting sounding shows that night, though I can't recall the specifics now.

I've been leaning towards Gold Panda only because I think it will be a while before he comes back to tour the states, but it's not really /dancy/ music and I feel like there is no way I'd last until his set time with the crazy 103 Harriet schedules and 2AM headliner sets.

they do have a few of those (at least they did a few years ago...the last time i was there). it's one of the oldest bars in the City. downstairs is just a bar (narrow) with a couple pool tables and upstairs is the room where shows take place (tiny stage with a bar at the back, a pool table and the heads side x side adjacent to the back bar.

Beats Antique just updated FB saying the Fillmore show is sold out.

Cake at the Avalon could be interesting. Ive only been there for a couple hip hop shows, but it seemed cool enough to me. More generic nightclub vibe than rock music venue, but they have a good sized stage and dance floor "pit." I think the first time I went there I thought it HAD to have been a strip club in a previous life. Maybe it had to do with the hallways and the booth tables near the back. Im sure the Fillmore is superior as a music venue but the Avalon has that small club feel to me.

A college alum buddy who works at BAMM.tv invited me out to a HOTTUB taping at their studio tomorrow night at 8pm. I think you can still RSVP for free. http://hottubbammtv.eventbrite.com/

I didnt realize it's right around the block from DNA Lounge where they are doing some Red Bull Thre3Style deal with PLATURN vs MAX KANE vs NATALIE NUXX vs JEFFREY PARADISE vs GOLDENCHYLD vs SOLOMON vs ERIC SHARP vs DIALS. Im only familiar with Platurn and Goldenchyld but DJ Jazzy Jeff is doing a headlining set. http://fla.vor.us/186986-Red-Bull-Thre3Style-tickets/Red-Bull-Thre3Style-SAN-FRANCISCO-DNA-Lounge-February-24-2011.html

that's nice to hear. one of my close friends was Kristine's first manager (before she broke...she was smart enough to dump him early on. love the guy, but he blew it with her). i remember listening to her demos in her car on the way down to BFD a few years back and telling him later on that she was the real deal. she's super smart (Stanford grad) and a fantastic guitar player as well. speaking of, does she still play guitar during her sets? what's her set up like these days?

if i wasn't going to the Prince show, i'd for sure check her out...it's been much too long since i've seen her last.

^hey GeezrRckr - no guitar for K. Flay, which is what threw me off. the little vid they had on the Noise Pop site (which was a really well done piece, as it is part music vid/part autobiography) had me expecting a more folky, the-california-sun-inspires-me, sort of set. but she just rocked it with a beatmaker, a macbook pro, and the mic. i don't think anyone was expecting her to bring what she brought, but she had people moving and hollering shouts of praise mid-song. its awesome to have those discovery moments still at shows. Noise Pop has consistently done that for me.

She works a lot with Amplive and Zion-I. Ive saw her live with them a couple years ago and then she got a little solo time with Amplive when he opened for Street Sweeper Social Club at one of the Outside lands night shows. She did a little guitar work that evening. She's got a great energy and presence when she performs. I last ran into her at Mezzanine at the love parade after parties (she was performing with Amplive again) and she gave me some K.Flay stickers.

She also has some pretty random video blogs that are pretty entertaining.

One of the songs she did with Zion-I. It got a lot of radio play for an underground hip hop song on Live 105.

which might make it seem more of a big deal to him. (just be glad they're not "orgasmatron" anymore)
And lazersword is ~local, plays more often, and thus less novel (in his mind)

Why are you on about "dj skills"?
Those haven't been a part of that scene for years.
You should concern yourself with bent wrist waving and head bobbing skillz.

I'd like to buy tix for Iron & Wine sans fees. Do you guys think a week long fan pre-sale and a day long Goldenvoice pre-sale will gobble up all of the GA tix before I have a chance to get them from the Box Office the day they go on sale to the general public?

at the Indy, right? that was a really fun show all around. shortly after that gig she took on new management and we fell out of contact. nice success story. it would be fun to reconnect with her

I haven't seen her 'play' with him in awhile.

Saw her open for Bassnectar, then saw her up close & personal at the afterparty, even stood behind her for some of her set.

Let's just say I didn't see much DJing. I saw a pre-set playlist and her playing with some effects knobs.
