Cara, I suspect that a lot of us will end up at SoD even though we've been so whiny about it.

It's a bit odd considering that last year's lineup was pretty much ass.

jackstraw94086
11-16-2010, 12:57 PM
The lineup for SoD is actually pretty diverse and there's probably something you would enjoy listening to in one of the several stages. And if at any particular moment there isn't you can check out all the art and cutesy bullshit that's set up all over the place specifically to combat your sour-ass 'tudes.

otherwise that sardine-packed bar with the $30-$60 cover playing ass-grinding 15-year old hip hop bangers is right around the corner.

(....or you can wait until 6am and go to mighty like all the too-cool-for-school crowd....)

It's a bit odd considering that last year's lineup was pretty much ass.

Let's not bring it into this thread too... :)

Last year was my first time at SoD, so of course I have much higher expectations of the event this time. I'm one of those.

And FWIW there are very few acts that could be booked at Mighty to make me want to spend NYE there.

Also I already did this just like 2 weeks ago. Including Jello shots, jager bombs, and the electric slide at least 3 times. It's amazing what I'll do once I'm a dozen or two drinks in.

My buddy told me it was at Mezzanine...

I am confused....but very excited :)

Sailor Jerry is gross in that it's disgusting but that bum offered to buy it for me let's take shots in our dorm room way. There are people I know who have a couple of stories that begin with Sailor Jerry and end with, "and then I pissed/threw up on (something hilarious)"

Black Lips + Sailor Jerry has some seriously funny implications to it...

I am actually from Atlanta and grew with Jared and Joe....

They made their name and got their orginal fanbase by playing free shows/house parties... Black Lips, Deerhunter, Gentlemen Jesse, Predator, Carbonas...all free, all night long, it was so much fun.

They play shows in Atlanta like this all the time, just so people can get in for free. I know they get paid too, but they really do it for their fans.

This should be a shit show in the best way possible.

Hopefully that only lasts about as long as it did at the LA Col.

I think youve got it right, theres no other reason why a show would be announced with no location. Hopefully they get it together soon it could be a good one.

It is possible, as jack is claiming, that they will do something totally unlike their last ~5 years of touring nonsense, and will impress me,.... but even though that seems unlikely, I'm certain there will be something else to entertain me.

Plus if I'm not sober, I like almost anything a lot more.

GeezrRckr
11-20-2010, 12:49 PM

we should all go in wearing them. and then when those two dopes make their appearance during TC's set, we all chuck them on the stage.

Bud Luster
11-20-2010, 01:03 PM
We should do the whole get up - hats, dread wigs, white running shoes, but not sure where we are going to find those snappy military style jackets (we'll figure it out), and we can run around shouting "BOH BOH BOH", and BOOYAKASHA! all night.

Huh?
Bootie is having their mashup NYE party at Mezzanine.

Bootie has gotten incredibly popular. I remember first time I went to it when it was at the Cherry Bar, now Annie's social lounge (I think), but the last couple times at DNA Lounge has been over crowded. I recall security informing me when I stepped outside to smoke, it might be a while for me to get back inside because of the crowding. DNA was also closed last year or early this year for a month or two and Bootie moved their party to Mezzanine for the month (maybe two) and it was still very crowded.

My roommates all seem to love Bootie so that is usually the spot or event that will get all or most of our social circle out.

bootie is fucking velveeta cheesy. However their parties are always a great time. People go nuts for them. and if you have little tolerance for cheezy electronica DO NOT GO. Adrian's a fun DJ but she plays gutwrenching bootlegs. Drink heavily and you'll have more fun than you want to remember, and conveniently you wont.

has anyone seen a set of his in the past several years? this could be totally amazing...or a bloody trainwreck.

It will not be a trainwreck, although you may not be completely blown away.
he played one of our shows a few years ago and was great. Not much to watch anymore as he just stares at a laptop, but nobody does the old school/electro like he does.

Don't expect crazy hair either. Those days are likely over (at least based on the only two times I've seen him in the past 4 years)

bootie is fucking velveeta cheesy. However their parties are always a great time. People go nuts for them.

Cheesy doesn't bother me at all for stuff like DNA club nights. The crowds were decent, in my memory (it's been eons since I've gone to any of these, an acquaintance has been pestering me to hit either Bootie, 1984 or Death Guild)

Yoshi's - SF

has anyone seen a set of his in the past several years? this could be totally amazing...or a bloody trainwreck.

I enjoyed seeing him briefly at RTB a few years ago. I also saw him last NYE at Club 6. I dug him, but also KNEW who he was. Its really no joke when they call him the God/Grandfather oh hip hop.
...
And regarding Bootie, yea if you find the mash ups (in general) on the cheesy side, you'll probably find the club party as well. As mentioned though, its makes a great place to go with friends who might not not normally go out to clubs and/or aren't super into electronic music. My roommates and that social circle hardly do shit together, but everyone seems to clear their schedule if someone wants to go to Bootie. The live band is usually the highlight of the night unless there is a big featured DJ. I dragged as many people as I could out to see DJ P (Uneasy Listening w/Z-Trip) do an all vinyl set which was pretty awesome.

And for $20 thats the best looking party in my budget for NYE.

Looks like Tom Waits may be joining Primus on New Years? Any other guesses?....

As part of Les Claypool's 20th Anniversary New Year's Extravaganza PRIMUS have got a very special surprise guest who will be joining the fracas on New Years Eve. PRIMUS can't reveal who this person is due to contractual obligations, radius clauses and his general disregard for society, but PRIMUS can give you a glimpse of his backstage rider:

1. 1 Crying Towel
2. Yesterday's newspaper
3. 1 8-Ball of Blow
4. 1 copy of Plumpers Magazine or Leg Show
5. 1 pack of Swisher Sweets
6. 1 dozen Donuts or Micky's Bigmouth Beer
7. 1 backrub From Derek Featherstone (nude and non-negotiable)

I thought I'd get more flack for posting that show considering he's a juggalo now and everything. Thats prob a bad joke, but I honestly didnt think to post it here since we usually just post music events.

The jr. high schooler in me got excited seeing that Tony! Toni! Tone! listing. Also shows a Slum Village show after Thanksgiving, but only mentions T3 and Illa J. OK, well I just read wiki and had no idea Elzhi was "removed" from the group. Really?! I saw Slum Village only briefly at RTB in 09, JUST after Baatin passed and Elzhi was the clear standout of that set.

last time I saw GC and pfunk was in college. GC wound up coming to a frat party after the show. Entered into a room full of people and blindly spun around and plunked himself on the couch. Two dudes had to scramble out of the way to avoid getting sat on. He then proceeded to pull out a crack pipe and smoke. A minute later some woman came in and pulled him out of the room.
btw the one reason I never bothered to see them perform again is because even those years ago GC could hardly complete sing a single line of a song without mumbling. He was like a more "together", but less articulate version of Sly Stone at coachella.

Unfortunately they played to about 30 some odd people because it had rained all day and the first 100 ft of the stage was a mud hole.... i know many of you guys love that place...and it does have its charm. but the bourbon selection is pretty pitiful and that's why i like to hit up Anu more than not.

however, tomorrow there is no choice in the matter.

gotta love a late night chuckle. very funny.

i haven't checked out the opener, but Jared says he plays the theremin, which could be rather interesting...or terribly boring, depending on what he does with it.

but, i'm thinking sometime around 8ish.

OK so this is silly but when I bought my Grinderman ticket the billing address was still Miami, I hadnt changed it in time. So I called yesterday and they said alright we'll email you the ticket. Here's the red flag, I never got the e-mail so I called again just now and the said alright we'll leave it at will call. But now im soooo nervous! They better not fuck it up again or i'll have to unleash my dark side that I usually keep bottled in

Is it Ticketmaster, Salah? I've had terrible problems with them "emailing" tickets (not when I use the email option when I buy the ticket -- only when their support staff says they have emailed the ticket). They always end up switching it to Will Call and it's no problem.

If you have a printer, print the email from them, in case Will Call gives you a problem.

Proceeds benefit The Root

Online donations and $$ raised from our live art auction with artist Jeremiah Allen Welch will benefit a new non-profit The Root. The Root will be a physical location in San Francisco that will help support, guide and educate musicians around "next steps" to answer their day to day questions and help meet their goals. That could be guidance on what local venues to play, representing yourself online, legal questions and much more-The Root will be the major hub for all musicians in the Bay Area.

Mighty finally posted the link to purchase tickets to their Nosaj Thing Lola benefit show. The tix are being sold for $20, which doesn't jiive with their flier, so I am waiting on a response from them regarding the pre-sale price of $15 before I purchase my tix. Here's the ticketfly link:

Edit:

Apparently the pre-sale tix have sold out.

NYE: "Still working on it"

-Mighty

Those bastards had better have more than just local talent.

GeezrRckr
12-01-2010, 12:53 PM
did you just get that from them or are you just repeating what i was translating, what, 2 fucking weeks ago?

i'm going to go to hold out hope that the reason for the delay is, in fact, because they are working on something really cool (maybe they are awaiting a visa approval?). if they were just going with local talent, they'd have announced that by now. that's probably their fallback should whatever it is they may be working on falls through.

of course, this is ass-talking speculation here at its finest.

chiapet
12-01-2010, 12:57 PM
I think you're completely talking out of your ass. But I'm giving them the rest of this week. I figure if you aren't able to announce your NYE show by the first week of December, you have nothing worthwhile.
