How much for the event itself? This is not including travel and hotel costs.

It's kinda up in the air.

Gonna have atleast $400 for 2 people but I will spend less if they allow grills in the camp site.

Food is the biggie... How many $5 slices of spicy pie, $8 philly cheese steaks, and $8 Heinekins are you gonna have over the course of the weekend? That stuff will nickel and dime you to death quick.

I'll probably bring $400 just to be safe... and hope I maybe spend half of it...

beavington
02-11-2010, 06:55 AM
if all goes according to plan then about $750 for the both of us. Of course $320 is going to go to weed. so about $430 for food and a t-shirt that i will regret buying later because i see something better. I hope to not have to worry about food inside too much since we can bring a grill. so maybe coachella wont break me this time.

thisdj
02-11-2010, 07:00 AM
since we're allowed to have grills that will save me at least $30 a day on food alone. and since we're allowed to have 1 case of beer per person, that will last me the whole weekend.

i'm budgeting $25 a day.

Duuuuuuuuuuude.... where the eff are you staying? Palm Springs is where it's at, 20 min. drive, 85/night! I guess the drive is a little much if you're planning on being impaired.

Inside the festival
$12/day for water (double that if they'ren't doing the free refills Coachella Water Bottle)
$23/day for food (one full meal, acai bowl, snack)
$0/day for beer

Camping
$8/day for fresh fruit for breakfast
$7/day for ice refills (cost could be shared amongst friends)

Total
($35 + $15)/day x 3 days + $15 (camping Monday morning) = $165

This assumes I bring a good deal of food, snacks and beverages to my camping spot for breakfast and lunch and after show eating/drinking.

I'll probably bring more than that just in case and because I am likely to want a shirt or two.

faxman75

Yeah, i'm confused about $10 for a refill on water myself. I thought you purchased the bottle and re-fills were either free or $1.

zimmy1222
02-11-2010, 08:36 AM
If i remember... you purchase the coachella bottle, re-fills were free... if you bring your own re-fillable one, they cost a dollar... cheap as hell.

and even if you're not camping, you can pack your dinner and leave it in your car. Sure it's a walk, but it saves you 10 bucks a day.

They're standing in the heat all day dealing with assholes, they probably aren't getting paid much, and they're giving me something for free. Plus, any tips they receive have to be split up amongst everyone. Geez, didn't any of you ever work in the service industry?

Bottom line is I can afford to give them $1 when they do something for me that I'm not paying for. If you can't, than I guess you shouldn't include it in your budget.

zimmy1222
02-11-2010, 08:59 AM
shaded heat mind you... and didn't they have misters or somethin in there? and they probably don't work the entire day and probably DO get to spend whatever part of the day they have left inside the festival checking out music...(emphasis on probably) i wouldn't be too bummed out if i didn't get tips.

but you make a good point...

Most my money went to gas since I drove alone (nobody to split the road trip from San Antonio, TX -> Indio, CA). This year I'm driving with someone so hopefully I'll have a bit more to spend...

captncrzy
02-11-2010, 09:08 AM
No, they didn't have misters. That would have been nice considering the line.

I forgot about gas too; that was pricey. I think probably close to $80 for gas. But that's between the two of us.

I rarely tip vendors at festivals. Very rarely. If it's a cute girl and she smiles I'll toss a buck in the bucket. Other than that, no tips. Though for some reason I feel obligated to tip for an $8 Heini. *shrugs*

I'm stashing about 4-5 fifths of liquor in my car, plus bringing the pussy case of beer, plus about a quarter of the sickest weed I have EVER got my hands on....a carton of smokes and a couple small bottles of water. That all comes to about $225 - and I'll bring another $400 in case I feel like propositioning a drunk teenager.

Too much for the teenager or too much for the weekend?

This will be my first Coachella and I've been well warned about the $7 beers. I'd like to say that I'll drink in the campground and save money, but that's a lie. See you in the Heineken tent.

Drinkey McDrinkerstein
02-12-2010, 02:15 PM
Too much for the teenager

I'd say i spent a good $60/day on the beers. have maybe 3 sporadically in the day when it's really hot and i drink them nice and slow one at a time to take a load off, and then slam 5 or 6 within short bursts while i'm running around like a crazy person trying to catch a quick buzz during the evening. Usually works out well.

Good idea to slam oa couple and have a little buzz going on before heading in at the start of the day too.

the idea of walking back and forth to either campgrounds or cars during the day sounds terrible to me. I rarely have pockets of time that are that large where I have nothing to do. There is just too much going on inside the ferstival to hold my attention

Yeah, just consider yourself lucky. I'm busy getting ripped on another thread.

Luck, no sir, but rather identifying the psychology of most the people who take the time out of their day to cut people down are highly egotistical and generally are compensating for something. By making it about them, you avoid the douches and general discussion can be had between the non-hostile population. I truly laugh at the posts on the music side where people feel the need to tell how bad a band/artist is in a thread about that band.

I don't budget. I refuse to.
I work my ass off all year so I can be able to, for just this one week :
Spend $700.00 for two passes + camping for BD and I,
toss the cell phone along with the work umbilical cord,
loose the watch,
and not have to worry about a damned thing anything...including cash.
It's my vacation. It's Coachella man. It's good times.

Life @ Coachella does NOT have to be expensive.

Personal Coachella budget 2010 -
Gas (carpool from AZ): $15 roundtrip
Food: $15/day (I bring enough food for breakfast and lunch in the campgrounds, grab some spicy pie during the day to cure the munchies and hit up another vendor for dinner).
Water: $10/weekend (banking on the refillable bottles again)
Experience enhancement: $15/day (save the booze for the campgrounds and your biggest expense is the herb)
Total : $115 for the weekend including gas. I used this same budget last year and had cash to spare.

bout a hundred a day. Normally drink alot and have one meal at around dusk.

I've seen a few double fisted guys standing in the beer garden mid afternoon by themselves drinkin and swayin with the wind. It's like, cmon dude, you really need two beers? It just looks ridiculous...especially when they take drinks from each one. They must be in very bad shape by the time the headliner rolls around.

I need to figure out a guess of what I'll spend so I can set some aside.

Coachella shirt - $35
Probably 3 band shirts - $75
Coachella sweatshirt - $50
~$50/day food/water/other things - $150

So I'm looking at around $300. This isn't taking into account recreationals for the weekend.

...And I asked a similar question about the Do Lab and was about 50/50 met with hatred or agreement. It's a yard sale of entertainment, and it's anyone's right to spend the festival the way they want to. (I've had to come to terms with this one too)

Being as coachella is 3 days after my 21st B-day this year I plan on going pretty big... buying a lot of beer...otherwise I would never buy more than maybe 2 beers a day.

$100-food/water/beer(campgrounds)
$130-beer(venue 3 days)
$30-Food(venue 3 days)
$10-Water(venue 3 days)
$10-Gas (Indio is only 50 mins from where I live)
