You need to hit up the board member named Archie Bunker. He's a barrel of laughs and a generous soul.

Hey, everyone in Vegas! Doesn't this town suck balls???! Every once in a while, we're lucky enough to get Animal Collective (brilliant) or Phoenix (meh) to play one of our glossy venues. But they're probably so disgusted by the oily douchebags they have to deal with in order to play there, they'll never return. Maybe Japandroids or No Age will play the Beauty Bar every now and then. Otherwise, what's the point of living in a city if you can't check out a decent rock show every week or so? I'm so out of here. Moving back to Brooklyn this June.

Anyway, I'm going. I just got a couple of tickets for me and my brother. I'm taking him for his twenty-first birthday. It'll be my first Coachella. Been wanting to go since Radiohead/Pixies in '04 but I've always been broke or in another region of the U-S-A. Can't wait.

Man I thought I was the only one that felt this way about the local music scene here. This town has overdosed on metal & shitty cover bands.

I have lived in Vegas for 20 years. We definitely don't get good shows like we used to. And if we do get a good act here the tickets are too expensive. The best way to get to see good, inexpensive shows in this city is to join some kind of band society. Most shows are less than 20 bucks and you get to meet some cool people.

Ok, from Vegas! You can't really say no bands come here. I mean Jay-z, Muse, Dead Weather, Them Crooked Vultures, Artic Monkeys are all in town around Coachella. Hell The Whigs and BRMC played Hard Rock last night. Ticket prices are roughly the same as other dates all the above artists are playing. Muse $50 range, same for TCV...yes the fee's add up for TM but thats the same anywhere, so you buy at the venue.
When I first came to Vegas 8 years ago, it was rarely played on a bands touring circuit. Last few years it has got better. We get most of the same bands as any other medium sized market. Its hardly LA or NY but we do just as good as Phoenix or San Diego.

Heya, my friend and I are flying into Vegas for 3 days, and we are looking to hit some places that aren't all flash Vegas crap. Has anyone any suggestions? We have been to teh Beauty bar and teh Double Down for some interesting times. Is anyone up for going sharing any advice or even joining us for some drinks somehere?? Anyone know of some good long hills for longboarding too, nothing too crazy. We are not big sliders, just carvers.

If you don't flash Vegas crap then stay off the strip. That is all you will find there. A great place to check out is Red Rock. Not the casino but the actual national park. Its beautiful right now, especially because its not too hot yet. Lots of hiking and outdoors stuff to do there. If you want something indoors to do we just got a indoor race track called Pole Position that is pretty cool. There are too many places to drink to suggest just one. The further you get away from the strip the cheaper drinks will be. And if you are staying in a casino stay in one off the strip. They are way cheaper.

Also Mnt Charleston or Valley Of Fire. Some ways better than Red Rock, less crowded and far removed from Vegas.

Cool stuff to do! Pinball Hall Of Fame http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ Vintage arcade games knocks spots off Pole Position. Bonnie Springs is a good laugh too.

Go to Ellis Island on Koval. Its one street over from the strip on the east side around the Caesar's Casino area. There is a Super 8 Motel right next to it. It is micro brewery with cheap heady beer. Also featured on the Food Network for Barbecue & awesome food. Its really inexpensive too. Hofbrauhaus is a fine brewery also if you like German beers & brats. A lil more pricey tho.

The Griffin has exceptional music for Vegas & is right next door to The Beauty Bar. There is also some Irish style pub on Fremont on the same side of the street as the BBar with an outdoor patio in front. They usually have a good band in there.

Dive Bar on Tropicana & Pecos. Real trashy. Nothing but punks and wierdos.

Also, check out The Yardhouse at Town Square if you want an amazing selection of beer.

Depending on your music tastes I have a few goth/industrial/80's choices for ya:

Thursdays: 18+, 11pm-3am..Carpe Noctum held inside the Red Hookah Lounge on northwest corner of Trop/Pecos (same corner as trop theater, Putters, Dunkin Donuts, Eyeglass World). FREEEEEE!!! No alcohol inside venue, but Putters (a bar) is 2 store fronts down..so you can drink there (or pre-game) and dance and smoke hookah where the music is good!

Friday: 21+, 11pm-3am..free til 12, then $5 after. Skizofrenia held inside the Krave Lounge which is ATTACHED to the Planet Hollywood casino (southwest side), not INSIDE the casino. Easiest way to access it: head West on Harmon (toward LV BLVD from, say, Koval or the east side of the strip)..go thru the light for the Planet Hollywood parking garage, just past this is a turn in on the right for valet for the Harmon theater/Krave night club. Valet is free and ya don't need to trek through the damn casino!

Saturday: 21+, 11pm-3am..FREE. Ghost Machine inside the Gypsys night club on 4605 Paradise Road and Naples...south of Harmon, North of Tropicana. mapquest it since it's on a one way street. they have an awesome $10 liquor/draft beer bust! or $1 draft beers all night.

Saturday: 21+, 9pm-2am, FREE. Daddy Macs (2920 N Green Valley Pky Bldg 6
Henderson, NV 89014) 70s/80s/90s, alotta madchester and britpop as well as some really good 80's..

Uhh..I got more, but I need to get goin to work...heh

Thanks a lot!! That is very generous of you; however, we are there from Monday the 12th (evening) to Thursday the 15th (morning). Is there anything decent during the week? If so< what type of tunes are played? NOt too big on top 40 stuff, if you know what I mean.
Appreciate your help, and if you are around, out for a drink would be cool, if you are down.
Peace

Meh, there's not really a whole lot goin on Mon-Wed nights..I checked the Weekly and the majority of stuffs ARE the shitty top 40 stuffs. The best I could do is tell you where the Spy on Vegas events are happening...they pick a different place to go every weeknight from 6-9 pm(ish) and feature a different alcohol (beer and/or a liquor) that's free! Though most the time, the places they choose are either pricey or not the best...but you can start your night out there with some free booze in ya and then find a better place to be! I'll add you on facebook :-)

Great I've a scout. Would love the feedback. I may very well have invited anyone who has responded to this out for a drink; inevitably, I've some brain to mush. The invite is too you as well. Might wind up needing a wheelchair for teh festival. :)
