Leftfield return for RockNess after decade’s absence
Influential electronic pioneers Leftfield are marking their return with a live performance at this summer’s RockNess festival - their first announced appearance for over 10 years.
nfluential electronic pioneers Leftfield are marking their return with a live performance at this summer’s RockNess festival - their first announced appearance for over 10 years.
Hailed as one of the most influential exponents of electronica, Leftfield were one of the first such acts of the 90s to crossover into the mainstream, leading the way for artists including The Prodigy, Underworld and The Chemical Brothers. RockNess 2010 takes place at Dores near Inverness from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 June.
RockNess festival Director Jim King said: “We’re been trying to get Leftfield to do some shows for years and now it’s actually going to happen.
“Ask any electronic band who was an inspiration for them and Leftfield will always be listed. I was fortunate to see them live over 10 years ago and if you think The Prodigy are loud then you won’t know what hit you when these guys kick in.”
The band’s debut album Leftism was hailed as “one of the 20 greatest albums of all time” by Q, with guest vocalists including John Lydon for their startling hit Open Up.
King added: “They just have everything in their locker from the pounding bass lines of Phat Planet to the pioneering and visionary beauty of Melt. Get online now and reconnect with the band that unquestionably defined the music of a whole generation.”
Adding further excitement is the announcement that drum and bass duo Chase & Status will be joining the bill along with German techno titan Boys Noize.
These latest acts augment the already confirmed RockNess line-up which to date includes The Strokes, Friendly Fires, Soulwax, 2 Many Djs, Annie Mac, Club 75 featuring Xavier De Rosnay (Justice), Busy P, Cassius And Dj Mehdi and Rob Da Bank.
