that sun takes too god damn long to set for me to even realize it's happened when i'm watching a band, so in 6 years, i can't remember a single one.

Every single act i saw was in top form! not a single bad note, not a single flub, not a single moment of apprehension by any of the performers, and for me, during the whole weekend no more than a few moments spent w/o being high, drunk or rolling haha
let's do this
In order of appearance:
Gui Boratto (PlayBeautiful Life was beautiful!)
Steve Aoki is a fuckin rockstar
Buraka Som Sistema kick M.I.A.'s ass. plus those MCs, especially the female, have CRAZY moves. heaven in a tent.
Beirut was magical. played ALL my favorite songs.
Bajofondo is not my taste in music but their passion was exceptional. they were so inviting. and the accordian player was HOT.
Paul McCartney. walking out friday night to a crowd of thousands singing the na na na part of Hey Jude was positively breathtaking.

caught the end of the Liars, who made me cry
Surkin is a chainsmoking, recordsmashing FIEND
i sat outside the tent of Tinariwen and just closed my eyes and transcended
Fleet Foxes was also transcendent. those voices? miraculous
Junior Boys. a standout in a weekend full of standouts. they kept the bpm slower than i expected & it was perfect.
Glass Candy. one of the few bands i've seen before. but i got kicked out before i saw their whole set before, so this was almost like a first time. they have the thickest, stickiest basslines, we were able to get right to the front and danced till we were sick.

Lykke Li i'm just becoming a fan of. mostly Little Bit. a very sexual performance, which i wasnt expecting. when a performer isn't disgusting like britney you forget they are still sexual beings, bt lykke brought out her best. i would say Stevie Nicks-ish, w a bit more punk. caught a Robyn sighting. oh and the A Milli track? outrageous! loved it.
Antony and the Johnsons. the absolute BEST performance. the beats threw me off for a bit but FUCK once i got it, & once antony really found his groove during Epilepsy is dancing, i was just floating. luckily we were in the very front for this as well. PLUS antony seems like the humblest person in the world, like he doesn't know he sings like an angel. i couldn't believe the short set tho. i would've been satisfied w only one song tbh if that's all he felt like doing. he was just beyond.
then i had to walk to the front to sneak in a friend & on my way back doddled to catch PlayMaps on the main stage. pretty sweet. bt im not really digging the rest of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' new stuff.
caught a bit of X. rocked it. tho the crowd was surprisingly skim.
Christopher Lawrence, Groove Armada, & Etienne De Crecy (w his fucking cubes!!!) were SPELLBINDING. i mean, possibly some of the best hours of my life. ever.
BEST COACHELLA EVERRRRRR.
its tuesday. & i still cant get my wits about me.
yeah.

I have never understood the overimportance allotted to sunset sets. I don't understanding considering that such an important part of the festival.

It's a very important time slot I think. For me, I've always been walking around all day in high 90 to 100 degree heat checking out as many bands as I can and i start to lose my legs a little bit. Whatever band I'm watching once the sun starts to drop, gives me my second wind. There's something to be said about that. Not to mention the coachella sunsets are amazing and are the perfect backdrop to a good live act.

fleet foxes last year was perfect!

any of these i would love to see at sunset this year: Fever Ray, Edward Sharpe, Dirty projectors, Pretty Lights, Miike Snow, Sly and the family stone.

Here's why the sunset slot is muy importante:

Sunset at Coachella is very beautiful. Stunning even, sometimes. When bands play on the main and outdoor stages during sunset and look out at that picturesque backdrop, it becomes a terrific moment for them, because it's such a unique setting. Of the hundreds of bands at Coachella each year, only 6 get to play on an outdoor stage at sunset. And because it's so unique, it's a slot that's sought-after by the musicians. And so, the sunset slots have become the second-best spots after the headliner, which is why bands Franz Ferdinand, TV on the Radio, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs play at sunset rather than right before the headliner.

Arcade Fire 05 was the most magnificent thing. And yes, YYYs were absolutely sunset last year. I have great pics somewhere of them on the main stage, with the sun going down in the distance.

I would love to see Yo La Tengo for sunset, but they will probably be in the Mojave or something.

I've only been to '07, but:

Tiesto is nothing special and I don't really like his music. But I swear that the winds that night would start blowing every time the beats dropped during his set. It was far from my favorite set that weekend, but it was pretty fucking cool.

YYYs were not sunset last year. 6 o'clock does not hit sunset. Just because the sun starts to go down doesn't make it a sunset slot.

How is this remotely related to a discussion about BEST SUNSET ACT?

Fleet Foxes, if you were close up to the stage, were wonderful last year.

YYYs played from 6:15 to 7:15. Sun was setting by the end of their set since the actual "sunset time" was 7:25. TV on the Radio had the same set time the day before, and I remember them playing "Staring at the Sun" with the sun just barely over the horizon at the very end of their set.
