so it sounds like theres no reggae artist on the lineup. What a shame. It would be awesome if goldenvoice could somehow book gregory issacs for the outdoor stage. Midnite would also be pretty cool and yea steel pulse

RX bandits has 3 great reggae style songs that are very powerful:
In all rwanda's glory
Babylon
Overcome

I fucking hope they play these songs! i'll go fucking insane!

Check out the Specials, man. They aren't reggae but really good. Get the self titled album and look out for tracks like "A Message to You, Rudy", "Doesn't Make It Alright" , and "You're Wondering Now".

The Specials are the closest thing to reggae this year.

Edit: ^Synchronized Specials posts.

Agreed, I'd be stoked for any of those choices.

I love the abyssinians' music, but they're just so old now their concert is really unimpressive, they sounded okay but pretty much stand still the entire time.

The Specials are the closest. There's a small chance we will get some reggae-ish dubs from Rusko

I fully support a Marley child returning to Coachella at any time ever.

Specials, yeah, white british blokes right? And Kroq only plays white reggae artists (Sublime, that one jewish guy, etc.). Even the "reggae dj" was white but sounded rasta (remember Native Wayne...yeah, he was white). I know the whole "melting pot" thing, but Rastifari is supposed to be a black celebration of black roots. It's a very race focused way of life based on a black jesus figure (Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia) and the struggles of their kind (slavery, white government rule, poverty, etc). So support black reggae first and formost. Better anyway.

I'm white and just a bit embarrassed sometimes of mainstream reggae sales pitches to the public. It's worse than the Elvis early years with the gospel song nicking. Open eyes and explore.

Some of the members of the Specials are black brother brother

But, yeah UB40 would be awesome, probably not "scene" enough for Coachella.

because the OP asked who was playing reggae this year; this isn't a wishlist thread. He probably won't play them, but he has produced a good handful of tunes that would appeal to a fan of dub reggae

I love the abyssinians' music, but they're just so old now their concert is really unimpressive, they sounded okay but pretty much stand still the entire time.

why does it matter that they just stand there? they can still shred on the vocals and their music is fantastic.

i would much rather see a group just stand there and play amazing music than watch an okay band go nuts all over the stage, though that would still be amusing
