View Full Version : The Official: No Short Set List for Muse because of Tiesto thread

Seriously, Muse are the headliners and don't deserve to get shafted because Tiesto will need time to set up after them. Fuck that. Give them their full set of at least 90 mins (or a full 2 hours if you feel so kind!) and tell the Dutchman to suck it if he complains.

Let them both play like 2 hours each, that way I won't need to go near the main stage for 4 hours and I can enjoy the good music playing everywhere else instead of that crap.

I don't even care about Muse, and I agree. Muse is the headliner. 90 minutes at least.

Where does it sat Tiesto is going to be on the main? You people are so dumb sometimes, just because an artist was on the main once doesn't meant they will be again. Prodigy and Chemical Brothers are prime examples of this.

I actually think Muse will be playing against FNM and Devo will be closing the outdoor.

Wait what? What do you mean by playing against FNM?

I think a rational argument could be made for either MGMT or Devo closing the Outdoor. I kind of like the idea of MGMT finishing off the night against Tiesto, but I don't know where that leaves Devo. I still haven't decided which I'd rather watch, but MGMT makes a better post-Muse closer, especially for mainstream crowds.

rage patton
01-25-2010, 06:42 AM
I mean exactly what it says. While Faith No More play the mainstage, MGMT will play the Outdoor.

Monklish
01-25-2010, 06:44 AM
You said Muse originally, not MGMT. And either way is incorrect. MGMT will close the night. Devo will probably play the Outdoor either during Muse or FNM.

rage patton
01-25-2010, 06:50 AM
Oh, so I did. My mistake. And I don't know... for some reason I don't see them putting MGMT against Tiesto. MGMT vs FNM would make a lot more sense.

Monklish
01-25-2010, 06:51 AM
How would that in any way make more sense? I don't follow this at all. Why does MGMT against Tiesto make less sense to you?

rage patton
01-25-2010, 07:10 AM
Because Tiesto and MGMT probably share a lot of fans who would love to see both acts. I am fairly certain most people who have MGMT as a must see, wont have Faith No More as a must see, and vice versa.

Monklish
01-25-2010, 07:15 AM
Tiesto and MGMT share a lot of fans? I don't see how hippie rock necessarily overlaps with trance, Rage. Not to mention the fact that scheduling rarely is a case of matching the two most different bands. I'm not even sure that they're the most different. I bet a lot of hippies and stoners are into Faith No More. Because it's must for dumb people.

MGMT are either playing the main during the daytime or at night on the Outdoor. If they're playing at night it makes way more sense to give the people who like music with guitars something to drift over to after Muse. At APW, MGMT were closing the fest against Etienne De Crecy. By your logic, that would somehow be an overlap equivalent to Tiesto, even though your logic makes no fucking sense.

guedita
01-25-2010, 07:16 AM
I think MGMT fans don't really care about Tiesto if he's at the same time. They're more inclined to stay at the Outdoor, especially if it's something like Hot Chip>MGMT.

chairmenmeow47
01-25-2010, 07:18 AM
what a retarded thread. why on earth would the HEADLINER get cut short for another act?!?

Monklish
01-25-2010, 07:20 AM
I believe the concern is that things would get scheduled similar to Saturday of 2007 when RHCP only had an hour and fifteen minutes slotted and Tiesto was going on after them. Although they ended up playing for an extra half hour or so.

crombrenner
01-25-2010, 08:27 AM

Seriously? Faith No More only gets a 55 minute slot? C'mon dude, they are they second billed band on Saturday, they will get at least 80 minutes. That's just retarded.

Monklish
01-25-2010, 08:37 AM
Second billed usually gets either an hour or 70 minutes tops, sometimes 50 or 55. Can't remember ever seeing one get more than 70 at all.

chairmenmeow47
01-25-2010, 08:44 AM
an hour and fifteen minutes might be a tad short, but then again it doesn't seem like the headliners generally get super long sets anyways. last year seemed much longer than previous years to me, but i didn't really go in 2007 or 2008 so i guess things might have changed. i wonder if there's a chart somewhere that details set-times for headliners over the years...

I'll be shocked if FNM gets only :55 on what appears to be their first stateside appearance.

Looking at their setlists, I cannot find a single show (including Festivals) where they performed less than 18 songs, with 24 the max. :55 tops them out at around 12-15 songs, and that seems incredibly unlikely to me. I'd expect at least 1:10 or so.

I know history is working against me on this, btw.

Didn't Portishead play for about 80 minutes? I know technically they were a headliner for a while, but they had a decent length set. What about MBV last year? Think they clocked in at over an hour too right? Especially counting the never ending noise holocaust. Pretty sure the Pixies clocked in at around 80 as well. Maybe I'm a retard or just lazy, but I couldn't find the set times on the Coach Recordings site.

only 1 of those is a headliner.

*edit* i looked up 2004-2008 (with the exception of roger waters) and all headliner slots were 75-90 minutes. therefore RHCP's set wasn't short as it was the exact same length that depeche mode & coldplay were scheduled for in 2006.

2009 seems to be the exception with much longer set times. i'd like to believe that was due to paul mccartney & the cure being artists with extensive catalogs (and macca basically being a musical giant) and also the fact that it was slim pickings artist wise last year. who knows though...

Are you guys serious? Tiesto isn't going to play on the main stage. He's going to play in the Sahara tent just like every dance artist, because that is the DANCE tent. For god sakes, Daft Punk played in the Sahara.
