I've introduced this band to a few people and they seem to have enjoyed it. Musically Florence and the Machine's sound is generally referred to as soul-inspired indie rock.

I must be retarded, can't figure out how to embed a Youtube clip so you don't have to go to the link.. but anyways this is The XX mixing a Florence and the Machine track. Considering they'll both be there blah blah blah.

This is one set I don't intend on missing. I could see them/her getting the Amanda Palmer spot from 2009.

Gahhh I'm so excited to see them perform live I can't stop listening to their stuff. Like its bad. At the rate I'm going I'll be sick of them by April.

side note: they are a very good band to listen to while on a run or at the gym, they personally keep me going

They played some small bar a few months ago in ct. Great Live. I dunno how theyre gonna do on a huge stage tho , theyre more of a small bar/med venue type band from what I've seen. Eitherway great CD/great people.

Florence & The Machine has played Glastonbury... so I wouldn't worry about stage size.

only song I had heard prior to the entire album was, "kiss with a fist" so i expected short pop songs...WOW! This is an amazing album and at times is incredibly epic! Rabbit Heart and Drumming are two songs I sure hope they perform live cuz they kick so much ass it isn't funny.
A must see for me!

I couldn't put my finger on it when I first heard the song Rabbit Heart but now it all makes sense

Florence And The Machine have agreed to pay publishing royalties to Gang Gang Dance after the New York band pointed out similarities between their song 'House Jam' and Florence Welch's hit 'Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)'.

Gang Gang Dance approached Florence And The Machine's label Island to ask about receiving a share of the publishing royalties for the track, which is credited to producer/writer Paul Epworth and Welch. According to Gang Gang Dance's publisher Warp, "They [Island] did acknowledge the infringement and said that they were aware of it."

Welsh herself said it was a "mistake" to not have credited them in the first place, reports Pitchfork.

"It's no secret. I've spoken about it in interviews before. I'm a massive fan of Gang Gang Dance and it was in homage to them," she said.

Parts of 'Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)''s melody, as well as the lyric "How quickly the glamour fades", were used without Gang Gang Dance's prior permission, and the band were not acknowledged on the sleeve for Florence And The Machine's album 'Lungs', on which the track appears.

Florence blew me away, sent chills down my spine and definitely was one of the high points of the weekend. She sounded great. The energy in that tent was incredible. If you couldn't get inside the tent it probably wasn't the same.

The crowd at Florence and the Machine was the worse of the weekend. Her set was amazing, but I need to see her again. Simply because listening to her set was like listening to the radio with a room full of people holding a bunch of different conversations

Bummer. I hate when people talk during a set. I didn't have that problem. I was up pretty close though. Where I was standing everyone was singing more than anything.

it was an incredible performance. We sneaked under the closed tent flap on the right side and were wedged against the tent until the ravenous crowd tore open the closure. I had no idea she was that popular. Luckily, I didn't hear much talking where we were. I actually thought it was one of the best crowds of the weekend.

Main Stage or Outdoor Theatre this year?

Is it a strange transition from Florence and The Machine into Dr. Dre?

Jakedeez

I'm fearing a conflict here. Dre/Snoop main and Florence outdoor. The girlfriend is a huge Florence fan, but i cant miss Dre. Hope im wrong though

travelfan
01-15-2012, 08:19 AM
I think Florence is an absolute lock for the mainstage, especially on a day when so many high billed acts would be swallowed on that stage. Her songs are powerful enough to fill it. The transition into ATDI or Dre is a little jarring, sure, but there have been weirder.

I'm going to guess Outdoor. In 2010 (the Clusterfuckchella year), her stage was the most packed I've even been in. I'm pretty sure a couple people fainted waiting for her to come on. Her performance, though, was excellent.

With the gain in popularity over the past year and the much higher billing compared to 2010, I think she's a main stage act for sure.

I, too, am worried about Florence and Dre/Snoop closing out at the same time. I will be so upset if this happens. Florence + the Machine is one of the main reasons I went to my first Coachella, 2010, and her set blew me away. Her voice is just as amazing live, her energy is great, and she seems like such a sweetheart. I am so excited to see her again this year.

Yeah I hope they give her the space of the main to attempt some sort of theatrics. Saw them at the Wiltern at the end of 2010 and the set backdrop was gorgeous and her wardrobe/lighting definitely created the perfect moody vibe for her songs. Also her live vocals are astounding and she has great energy. Can't wait to see them again and see how the new material is live.

I checked out her set in 2010 just out of curiosity because I had heard quite a bit about her right before the festival. I was blown away, what a voice. I hope I catch at least some of her set.
