Friday:
Main - Jay-Z
Outdoor - Grace Jones
Gobi - Yeasayer
Mojave - Dillinger Escape Plan
Sahara - LCD Soundsystem

Saturday:
Main - Tiesto
Outdoor - Devo
Gobi - Flying Lotus
Mojave - Coheed and Cambria
Sahara - 2ManyDJ's

Sunday:
Main - Gorillaz
Outdoor - Phoenix
Gobi - Owen Pallet
Mojave - Gary Numan
Sahara - Club 75

FoxeyLady

the last time Tiesto played in 07, he closed the main stage after RCHP, this year he tweeted he would be going on after Muse. So, presumably he is doing the same thing this year.

Phoenix could not close Outdoor. Their crowds will be too big.

I didn't know The Who was playing this year. It's going to be complicated for them to close each stage. And I wonder how they will be received in the tents? Although I heard Pete Townshend has a mean Breakstep set.

while they are up against Gorillaz though? They stated in an interview they would only play after dark at music festivals. So in this case it would be impossible for them to play the main stage at night (because of Pavement>Thom Yorke>Gorillaz), so I figured closing the Outdoor would be the next best thing.

Yes they are.

No, they're not. Phoenix play at roughly 2000-3000 capacity venues. The Outdoor can take like four to five times that. Just because you really like a band doesn't make them that big of a draw.

No, they're not. Phoenix play at roughly 2000-3000 capacity venues.

So does SSPU, Band of Horses, Bright Eyes, and most all of the past few year Outdoor theater closers. Phoenix could close it out but I doubt they will. They might have the Yeah Yeah Yeahs slot like last year.

don't really know about the other days but this is what i'm thinking for Sunday

Main -Phoenix - Thom Yorke - Gorillaz
Outdoor - Sly - Spoon - Pavement

The poster I was responding to was contending that Phoenix are too big for the Outdoor and would have to be on the main. My contention is that they are just about the right size for it. Certainly not too big.

All Tiesto really had last time was a DJ booth on wheels that had a screen on the front of it, a huge screen behind him, and some lasers. If Muse does in fact bring their current tour set up (crosses fingers) it shouldn't be too hard to put up an LED screen behind him and roll out his DJ booth after their set.

Please don't put Yeasayer closing the Gobi. They can't do that to me. Put Yeasayer on during the day in the mojave or the outdoor. Missing Yeasayer for NIN at Bonnaroo last year killed me.

Im guessing The Specials or PiL will be closing the Outdoor on Friday. If Yeasayer close the Gobi, during The Specials, I would have to miss Yeasayer. But if its Yeasayer vs. PiL... I would have an excessively hard time choosing.

Phoenix has played at Coachella twice in broad daylight.

They're phenomenally bigger than they were then, though. I do think people are underestimating their popularity at this point. The Outdoor Stage could certainly handle them, but they're bigger than most Outdoor closers.

I sadly missed last year, so I'm not sure about that, but two years ago, Flogging Molly, Serj Tankian, and Love and Rockets closed the Outdoor. In '07, it was DJ Shadow, The Good The Bad and The Queen, and Lemonheads.

I could obviously be wrong, but I think they're bigger (right now) than those six bands.

On the flip side, they played three shows in LA last year (Wiltern, Greek, Almost Acoustic), and I'm at a loss for who else would close the Outdoor. Pavement and Thom Yorke???? would be as big/bigger than them. Maybe Spoon? Either way, I'm missing at least one of those four acts, and that blows.

That sounds about right, what was your point though? Unless I missed something in the lineup I don't see anything capable of bumping Orbital from a show ender - have you seen their setup?

BTW, icon status takes a little more than 5 years to develop, give MSTRKRFT some time they do have some riveting electro house. They also benefit from coming from my nearest canadian neighbor city TO which is ripe with pure awesomeness.

I recall the Chems closing out a Coach tent @ 2001, but we were in the midst of technical difficulties with the Orb next door - the town closed them down at midnight - LX was pissed. We got to hang with Witchman for a spell - he had just stepped in to re-record Cydonia after Andy Hughes had left (and now is R.I.P. <3 Andy).

okay, look... Orbital is only gonna close the Sahara if they're going on AFTER Gorillaz, ala justice in '08 and daft in '06..

1. highest billed sahara acts do not conflict with the main stage headliner

2. the fact that Club 75 moved up to a line with big font, completely passing Infected Mushroom (combined with the fact that IM already got fucked in '07), makes me think that the superdjgroup of Club 75 is gonna be during Gorillaz, call me crazy, but i'm willing to bet on it..

Sunday:
Infected Mushroom->Plastikman->Orbital->Club75
-or- Orbital closing, but AFTER Gorillaz

but to be honest, stylistically IM-Plastik-Orbital would make sooooo much sense.. and i thnk both Orbital and Plastikman are too rare an act to go against the rare headliner.. whereas Justice/BusyP/Mehdi is certainly a big enough supergroup to close the tent during a draw like Gorillaz..

I actually think the 6:15ish Crowd Pleaser slot on Mainstage (Franz, TV On Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs last year) and Sunset Slot (7:30ish - Cohen, Fleet Foxes, Paul Weller) on Outdoor theater are more important slots to the schedulers than the closer on outdoor...so I'm adding these two to the mix.

Closing out the stage doesn't necessarily meant that the band will play till midnight... The stages are staggered in their final set times; I assume they do that to ease exit traffic or something. That being, it looks like LCD will play before Jay Z on the main; so I'd replace them with Deadmau5. On Sunday, I think Gorillaz will end about 11 and then Orbital will begin immediately thereafter in the Sahara (much like Waters -> Justice in '08)
