I know MGMT is not headlining but they are definitely up there on the set list. I figured if the headliner was like 11 maybe they would go on at 7? I'm speeding up to Coachella Saturday at 4 after a lax game in LA so i'm trying to see if I can make it in time for them, thanks.

MGMT is bad. The headliner will not start at 11. MGMT will be on after 4pm. You'll get to see them. You should realize you're buying a 3-day pass for MGMT and should consider catching them on tour.

Don't even bother. Not worth the trouble. Catch them on their own tour.

Wow you must be rich! You would pay for a Coachella ticket, drive to Indio from LA, arrive at 4 PM, solely for MGMT?

my guess is that they are headlining the outdoor theater around 8:30 or so

Traveling anywhere to see MGMT nowadays is dumb and stupid. They were fun in 2007. Now they take too many drugs to put on a good show. Witnessed.

you guys are misunderstanding, i think this person plans to LEAVE los angeles at 4PM

which makes this even stupider

Are you sure the drugs aren't actually making them better?

sacleonard

Or at least making them more interesting? I like their CD, but didn't think they were very exciting in 2008.

8:00 AM at the Dome. With special guest, Rip Taylor.

There's no way you could make it with traffic. Is LAX the Kings? Why would you ever choose a hockey game over Coachella?

I actually think the headlining the Outdoor case is very possible, though I doubt it would be at 8:30. At APW they scheduled them after everything else on the second stage, to effectively close out the fest. They had a big lighting array then and will probably have a bigger one for this tour. GV isn't going to put them on during the day.

I see them on the main stage in the YYY's slot around 6 or so.

they fucking closed out Saturday night at Bonnaroo and had one of the most incredible sets of the weekend...they can easily headline the outdoor.

Sure they can. No one is saying they can't.

Sadly, I don't think they will be as overwhelmed like they were at their first performance in the Mojave...their reaction was a beautiful part of their set cuz I don't think they expected that tent to be packed and overflowing!

faxman75
01-21-2010, 08:11 AM
They have apparently become musicians since then and have greatly improved according to many.

Saying they won't is different from saying they can't. At this point the question is will they play before dark on the main stage or headline the outdoor. The correct answer is the latter.

I saw them 3 times in 08' that Coachella set was the only one that was watchable.

When I saw them last year I couldn't believe how boring their stage show was. They barely talked to the crowd or moved around at all. The bassist stared solidly at the fretboard the whole time. The sounded ok but it may as well have been a CD.

lax game? There is nothing at Staples Center on April 17th. Taylor Swift is there the night before.

I could completely see them playing either the sunset slot on the mainstage (who else could you see there?); of not that, they'll close out the Outdoor stage. Either way, they'll be on after 6pm.

Considering that Tiesto is playing the main after Muse, here's how the main will go:

The Dead Weather 6:15-7:15
Faith No More 7:45-8:45
Muse 9:15-10:45
Tiesto 11-end

Thank you. Don't know why there is such hate on here for them. I think their show has improved dramatically since 2008 when they performed here. And since when does this board think drugs and musicianship don't mix (within some frame of reason, of course)?

EDIT: With that said, driving out from LA at 4pm to see them is not the best of ideas; they'll be back around to some venue in LA proper.

You must be the only person to think they are worse today than they were in 2007. They have improved greatly. I'm not a big fan. I liked Oracular a heck of a lot but their live show was underwhelming and i've heard nothing and seen nothing but a better sounding show out of them since then. Go look at youtube clips for evidence.

Closing the Outdoor it is. Fine by me.

guys he is playing in a lacrosse game. With his LAX penny and mid calves bro. Dude skip the game. My brother did the same thing in 08 and missed everything, it is not worth it, specially for one band, unless that band was reuniting.

I saw them several times in '07 and '08, but I am interested in checking them out again to see if their show has improved. Oracular was one of my favorite albums of '08 and I am excited to see how their follow up stacks up. I totally see them closing out the Outdoor Stage.

It's just as fun to listen to MGMT driving in your car as it is to see them live...maybe even more so. They just stand there. They sound good, but they are quite a bore.

I feel like most people going to see Tiesto on saturday want to see Guetta, putting them together doesnt seem right.

There's a difference between improving as a musician and improving at covering up the fact that you're not a very good musician.

thanks everybody. Especially all you MGMT haters, and yes, I know they're so drugged out that they blow at performing. However, they are somewhat new at performing too; they aren't that old. Either way, I love their music and would enjoy it nonetheless. Also, I was only planning on buying a 1 day pass. On a side note, lax is short for lacrosse. I have a college lacrosse game that day that will end approximately at 3; not a LA Kings hockey game or Taylor Swift concert at Staples. Thanks to everyone for the credible responses though. It seems that they could go on at around 5 at the earliest. I guess I'll just have to ask them myself.

Okay. Maybe so, fax. It's just that I've seen them 3 times now...

April '08 in a club--up there with the tightest, most danceable, most energetic performances I saw that year

June '08 @ a radio fest--SO fucked up that they could hardly keep on pace with each other, SUPER boring even when they did get it together a bit--every dancey song slowed way down to a snore-inducing crawl. We were up front, came specifically to see them and were so disappointed.

Bonnaroo '09--I know a lot of people seem to have loved this set, but I just can't help but wonder how many of those great times were had at least in part to some chemicals. 'Cause I wasn't sober either but they pulled the snoozefest card again in my opinion. Not to mention overall sloppiness. A la Andrew saying, "Here's a new song but we haven't really finished it or written all the words yet, so..." and proceeding to prove his point, unfortunately.

I guess if I'd never seen that first show in Seattle, maybe I would be blissfully ignorant of their downhill slide. Anyway, I'm sure people will enjoy them. Carry on.
