Maybe it's just me, but I can't get into Daft Punk.

I've heard most of the album Homework.

I mean, the songs on that album have no lyrics and most of them have the same thing repeated over and over. Unless I'm missing some deeper meaning or amazing musical technique they have developed.

Recommend me some good songs.

Umm...yeah...have you ever heard any "electronic" music before? This is usually part of the deal.

I saw that live youtube video.

I guess I didn't really consider them as electronic for some reason. I thought they were an entirely different kind of music or something.

Good songs.

its all about the groove

once you step into the groove you never want it to stop

Alive 1997 is where the magic is at.

But for you beginners, I would say try Daft Punk's album Discovery. Tracks like "one more time", "digital love", and "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" are super catchy once you first hear them. But you'll eventually realize that their greater work is on Homework and their masterpiece is Alive 1997

Exactly, I don't know how anyone can hear "One more time" and now want to bust out dancing.

i can see why some people wouldnt like daft punk and/or other types of electronic music. and have you ever noticed how music you dont like all sounds the same? like im sure if you dont like electronic music it's hard to hear the difference between trance, psytrance, house, trip hop, breaks, etc. but if you do love that music it all sounds completely different.

I miss the glowing pyramid, can that like be a permamnent piece of art like the Tessla Coil on the grounds? "This is the pyramid Daft Punk performed on in 2006, bask in its greatness".

listen to Bosco, if any of you are fans but haven't yet realized how great they are..listen to Alive 1997, that truly is one of the greatest live sets ever performed by an electronic artist.
I would definitley recomend starting with Discovery if you like to dance, or even Human After All if you are more into rock. But soon you'll realize the subtleties in Homework.

Any news on a new cd coming or anything? I would really love to travel over the lake to see them.

I have Discovery by Daft Punk, and I love it!

I noticed, Vericuester, that you thought the music contained no lyrics and was rather repetitive. Yeah man, that's dance music for you. It's either just repeated samples or instrumentals, sometimes they have song lyrics.

Check out Discovery though, there are some very very good lyrics there. Songs like Digital Love, Face to Face, and Something About Us - they all have amazing song lyrics. Digital Love and Something About Us are the stories of my life man.

As for all the hype on "One More Time" - I love it, but can only listen to a few minutes of it. It just gets kinda old after a while.

Oh and lowfront - They are touring in Europe a little bit this spring/summer. Just some festivals I think. I think there is a date in Serbia, and there is also one for France in June I believe. It's probably on the internet somewhere, check it out.

Actually - I think the preferred quick start method to loving Daft would be.

1. First, listen to the song 'Aerodynamic' - It's the most immediately impressive. A good primer.

2. Then watch 'Interstella: 5555" - Get some visuals and a cohesive feel to Discovery going.

3. THEN listen to Discovery, a lot.

4. Then try 'Around The World' and 'Da Funk' from the Homework years. Maybe watch the videos.

5. Get the live bootleg... cry.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't get into Daft Punk.

no, it's not just you. and while I like other kinds of electronic music, I've never been particularly fond of dance music (electronic or otherwise, going back to disco). My personal tastes are: Dance music is fine if you are at a club or party, dancing. But I don't see any reason to listen to it otherwise. But that's just me.

amyzzz
02-21-2007, 07:05 AM
That link is annoying. I clicked on a few genres, and it doesn't give out band names so much as producers. Can anyone give out a few bands that belong to a particular genre?

I can start: I've heard that Infected Mushroom is psytrance or goa trance.

That's how most electronic music is made, by producers. A lot of those subgenres don't have any "bands" associated with them. You could probably list DJs that specialize in particular styles. Check out your local underground party or club flyers for more info on that sorta thing.

Having a group on stage making the music doesn't really make it any better... it's often worse. Attempting to recreate good-sounding electronic music with any sort of live instrumentation is often impossible.
