Greetings. I've spent my entire life east of the Mississippi, and was most recently in Manhattan for a while. But I have now made my way west to the LA area and am wondering if there are any good LA-based music blogs out there. BrooklynVegan in NYC was always such a great resource, but I'm not sure if there is something like that out here or not. Any help would be appreciated. I figure I have the right target audience...

maybe its because BrooklynVegan is so well done and varied, i tend to think Losanjealous and scenestar are lacking a bit. LA needs a blog that covers ALL Music related happenings..not just "rock" shows. Mainly cause im a Dance-Head and they never cover any of the tour stops of any DJ's or EDM acts..

Thanks for recommending Ficklecycle! We mostly do Los Angeles-based news, presales, "secret shows" news, contests and keep up a concert calendar. LosAnjealous.com is cool too. They do a fair amount of contests and also have a concert calendar. RockInsider.com does a concert of the week newsletter plus a few contests but the site isn't as updated as much but when they do they have pretty awesome new stories since she is pretty connected to the music biz. Buzzbands.la is cool from a former Los Angeles Times music writer. LAist.com used to have "Shows of the Day" recommendations but looks like they cut that out. LAist still does interviews and big show announcements. DowntownLobby is a smaller similar site and coming up.

Norwalkguy: Any suggestions are cool. When you mean all music related happenings do you mean hip hop? dubstep? country? banda? world? industrial? PLUR? I mostly started the site because there really wasn't any site out there that I liked that posted presales, secret shows, or anything regularly regarding shows coming here to Southern California specifically and that wasn't leaning more toward the East Coast. I also wish there were more music sites based out of L.A. to have more balance in the music site/blog world, especially from people that are from L.A. I've seen NME do a better job of announcing bands coming to Los Angeles or Los Angeles bands touring than a lot of known East Coast sites. Either way, anything we can do to help in your music experience Mandelbaum while you're here would be our pleasure. Welcome to Los Angeles!

Buzzbands.la has a nice broad reach.

An Aquarium Drunkard is a given. When You Awake is another good one that covers a lot of the same kind of music.

webinfront.net and radiofreesilverlake.com have the best local coverage. Rockinsider.com too, but JAX doesn't update like she used to.

That guy who writes Classical Geek Theatre is a total fucking hack though.
