Contribute whatever personal moments you feel are most relevant to what this is about. Most know they are awful nowadays, at least since their last album topping several best of lists for 2009, but remember, once upon a time they were astounding.

Yeah, too much has been said about their current status and recent output, but I'll be loving it when they break out the classics at Glasto.

Am I the only one that thinks them not being able to use the claw is a good thing?

Some would say Red Rocks and the recording of that show . U2's now-legendary Red Rocks show on June 5, 1983 (not my pictures)

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j211/canexplain/U2_Sunday_Bloody_Sunday_Red_Rocks.jpg

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j211/canexplain/u2-1.jpg

"And after a short introduction from Fey, the show was on. Red Rocks, which holds nearly 10,000 people, was about half-full with 4,400 in attendance. The venue has never looked more mystical, alluring. Red Rocks was ready for its close-up."

but of those two early shows I saw, this would be the one I liked best. Maybe the venue, maybe by Red Rocks they were "old hat" .... (Not my picture)

They were pretty good at the Us Festival in '83 too.

That was when Bono had to climb to get up real high,he didn't have those 400 foot stages to do it for him...

yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah!

We used to listen to Joshua Tree while going on long road trips. And then Achtung Baby was added to the mix when it came out. I love U2

I believe I've already stated on many occasions what U2's finest moment was:

This song introduced me to them. It was one of those moments where you just connect in every way with a song, and in that way, it's like being bonded with a band forever.

What a tour this was:

Am I the only one that thinks them not being able to use the claw is a good thing?

Nope. That is basically the main reason I am hoping they play Coachella. I don't like this whole 360 thing that bands like U2 and Metallica are doing now. Just play a regular stage dammit.

I grew up listening to U2 because of my mom. I remember her blasting Achtung Baby, War, and Joshua Tree over the stereo. Through those albums, I feel so much closer to her. I can't wait to finally see them in June.

I got into U2 circa 1988 AFTER they did that big show at ASU that ended up on the Rattle & Hum DVD. I was so upset that I'd missed all that. I saw them live once in 1992 (also at ASU but not the stadium, the smaller Activity Center), and have never had an interest in seeing them live again because their newer music never grabbed me like the old, old stuff.

One of my most cherished songs ever. Love the emotional scream of "I'm wide awake" in the studio cut.

Quite possibly the most underrated U2 song of all time.

Yeah, really. Plus they really blew up in the early 80's because everyone was going crazy for their live shows, right? And that was without massive stages. Glasto is the perfect opportunity to show everyone they can still do it without the expensive crutch.

I still can't believe over half the ticket holders for the Red Rocks show stayed home because of the rain. I bet they're still kicking themselves over that one.

I'm sure the ticket holders that decided to skip that Red Rocks show are doing more than just kicking themselves every time a clip of it comes on...very unfortunate but foolish.

Most people are not interested in the idea of reminiscing. As a matter of fact, people only want to add their interpretation of what they think the past was about.

I got into U2 circa 1988 AFTER they did that big show at ASU that ended up on the Rattle & Hum DVD. I was so upset that I'd missed all that.My brother and I went to that show.Tickets were only 5 bucks, because it was being filmed. My brother smuggled in his professional Nikon, and halfway through the show gave me three rolls of film he had taken. Good thing, because when the lights went up,security caught him and made him open up his camera.I had a motorcycle jacket with a hole in the lining of the pockets, and when they frisked me they didn't find the film I had.
I mainly remember what was great at that show was Helter Skelter and Bullet The Blue Sky.

Even better than seeing U2 without the claw... would be seeing U2 without Bono wearing his sunglasses and The Edge not wearing a toque.

Such a beautiful song in every sense. The guitar, the lyrics, Bono's incredibly creamy voice. I tried to get some friends to understand that old U2 is wonderful and I played them this song but it just didnt work, their views on U2 are so strong that even when they hear glory like this song all they really hear is "that douchebag bono"

Frustratingly, they don't have any of the shade-free pictures that appeared in the print edition on the website, but he did a pretty good interview with The Times called "The Shades Come Off".

He is 238472983% more tolerable to look at and listen to without the shades or guyliner.
